In games, I usually have good tendencies.

I hate it most when the path I'm trying to walk (good or bad) has really stupid option s or dialogue lines. Or when it wants me to be evil or good in the "wrong way."

I'm usually a very nice guy, but when I keep becoming King/Queen I realize that I need to be an asshole so I can be used to making evil/cruel-yet-necessary decisions as King/Queen.

When I first started Dragon Age my first character (an elf mage) was all good and the way I usually am in games. I got bored of her around Ostagar, and started up a new game with a dalish elf rogue, who was supposed to do the opposite things from what I would normally do (aka, the eeeevil).

She started off as I had wanted, but once I got past Ostagar with her, she morphed into a good girl because it was new territory that I hadn't gotten to with my mage yet. So at the start she was killing humans, badmouthing kings, etc etc, and by the end she was a caring sweet girl who would do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe and do the right thing.

Except....I actually tried to side with the werewolves in the Brecilian Forest, but I ended up getting the achievement for siding with the elves because I acted in the best interest of getting the werewolves back to normal and avoiding conflict. Bah.

In games I find it harder to be good than evil, but most of the time I'll do a lot of killing and shit, but if a beggar asks me nicely for something, I just can't say no

I don't like being the bad guy. I like being someone who is convinced that he is right, which is a proper villain. It's all a matter of perspective, and some games don't offer that kind of perspective.

In practice this means I always am varying degrees of good guy.

I generally be good or at least diplomatic. I really only try kill people and take bad choices if A: It will make my next task easier
B: It involves doing bad things to bad people
A good example is to do the renegade action to he ship mechanic in Mass effect 2 in the archangel mission. I didnt mind doing that because the mechanic is an ass and it lowers the ship's defences in the upcoming battle. I wouldnt have done it if the guy fixing it was an innocent contractor or the ship was never going to be a problem.

On my first playthrough of "moral" based games I tend to be good most of the time but some of the time my mean streak shows through.

One day I'll get through playing the "moral" games I have as a saint and as a "devil", just to see what it's like.

I usually end up being a good person, apart from the time in the original Fable I deliberately made a totally evil (and gay) character to be the opposite.

Racking up 100,000G worth of fines in a single visit to a town = AWESOME.

There have been times that I've been unable to do something in the name of a character. Especially when I LIKE the characters. I think it was one of the Kotor games, whether good or bad I'd always help out this one person so they loved me still.

If a game can make you do the opposite of what you would do naturally, than it's just an okay thing, but if a game can make you unable to fight your instincts, than that's a game that's worth playing I would think

Well most of the time I make decisions that I would actually make were I in that situation. Because of this I usually don't murder people just for the hell of it and usually take the nicer choice. That being said, I still steal stuff that I find really useful and commit other crimes that I can get away with beyond just killing people. And since my morals are definatly more grey, I might take some of the less virtuous options in quests because I actually agree with them or because they will help a group that I like.

I mainly try to be neutral but I usually need to try a little bit to keep it down. Although if I really wanted to be a dick, I don't think it would be that hard for me.

I just do what I want. I'll save your children for the reward, but then I'll take all your valuable weapons and such.

So I finished Fable 3 earlier this week as the Shining Knight, chose all the "good" choices, saved up the $6.5m I needed to save the world and all its people and decided my next play-through would be a female character and choose all the bad choices, just to see how the game ends as a bad guy.
Alas, I found that I made the same choice in the throne room and saved the townspeople, albeit for a different reason than my good character did.
"Damn..." I thought, "Ah well, lets roll with it anyway."
I continued to play and arrived at the Dweller Camp and after buying a rather itchy set of Dweller Clothes, I found myself, without any thought as though by instinct, handing out my spare gold to the nearby beggars.
"Ah crap!" I said out loud after I realized what I was doing and almost begrudgingly continued.
The game progressed further, I killed some hollow men underneath a library, played some Lute, and somehow my young female character grew a mustache... hmm.
I headed off to the Mercenary Camp next, eager to wet my blade with blood and fought my way to the Merc leader, who I battled with and spared his life.
"Oh, for the love of... Screw it, guess I'll play a good girl then."
I then teleported to the sanctuary, dyed my hair blonde, rather than emo black and made some pies.
The point of this thread? Do you also find it impossible to be the bad guy, even when you try your hardest to be so? Do you bask in the Light or bathe in Darkness or are you somewhere in between?

EDIT: I mean gaming in general, I'm just using Fable 3 as an example.
I have literally the exact same situation. I beat it being totally good only problem was i killed just about everyone in the game so i had to restart right away. This time i bought enough real estate to save the world 3 times over. Only problem was when it came down to the judgments i did more good than bad because i didnt want the people of Aurora all dead and i had the money so why not right? Turns out i because pure good and every one loves me. Last game everyone hated me because all of my subject died, I shoulda made the whore house!

If I'm playing a game, on my first playthrough I do what I would do in real life. Meet an asshole? Blow his head off and keep walking. See someone getting attacked by bandits? Kill them, and take their guns. Save someone who's ungrateful, and a dick? Never help him again.

Basically, I walk the path of "It's my life, I'll do what I would normally do."

That has always suited me. However, on my second playthrough I always go 100% evil, burn villages to the ground without provocation, slaughter those who reward me for helping them, just so I can have their stuff. World need saving? Unless you got the money to pay me, it's gonna burn.

I usually don't choose evil options because most of them follow the progression of "I drop my trousers and whiz on the king!"

I'm sadly crippled with an over active moral compass.

I'd love to play an arse hole, but I always end up being nice... ..arg.
