I agree with you mate.Trivun said:They'll never get rid of it. It's the oldest profession in the world. Making it legal would not only reduce the danger and problems that are faced by prostitutes now, but also reduce the influence of pimps and criminals selling people for sex. It would make sex-trafficking a lot easier to deal with, and those who choose prostitution won't be punished for basically doing something that they have every right to do. Why should there be a problem if a girl is willing to take money for sex from someone? It's only the ones who are forced into it that need the law involved, and that's only for their own protection. So I say, yes, make prostitution legal. It's the best way to sort out the problems associated with it once and for all.

Prostitute: One who solicits and accepts payment for sex acts.T-Blade said:Do not legalise it, They are too expensive, Come to the UK most of the girls here are free hookers.
Morally I'm not keen, but I am a realist. Prostitution happens. It has always happened, it always will happen. The infamous SCAMola said:We were debating this issue at schoool, and I thought it would make an interesting topic.
So, I would like to know what my fellow Escapists think of the whole issue.
Do you think that legalising prostitution would be a helpful way of getting rid of the criminal element? If not, why?
Also, what do you moraly think of the whole prostitution concept?
The legal definition of pimp is anyone who uses the income of a prostitute. This includes more people than you would think. The child of a prostitute is a pimp (legally) if the food they eat was bought using funds from prostitution. If a man's wife is a prostitute, then if they file for taxes together, it is pimping.Maze1125 said:Most prostitutes are forced into it by circumstance or some bastard.
Punishing people who are already at the lowest point of their life seems rather pointless.
So no, being a prostitute shouldn't be illegal.
On the other hand, visiting a prostitute, or being a pimp, should be.
By that definition the prostitute herself should be considered a pimp.Ajna said:The legal definition of pimp is anyone who uses the income of a prostitute. I agree with a great many of your points. But with strict enough rules you can avoid a lot of the problems of 'putting prostitution in the public eye' (so to speak).Therumancer said:I say "No" and feel those who support it do not see the big picture....[rest chopped for sake of my post length]
I believe that the definition states "any person other than the prostitute". I don't have the paper on me. Also, prostitutes are punished worse than pimps. The infamous SCAMola said:By that definition the prostitute herself should be considered a pimp.Ajna said:The legal definition of pimp is anyone who uses the income of a prostitute. I think it's a flawed definition.Ajna said:I believe that the definition states "any person other than the prostitute". I don't have the paper on me. To use a deeply flawed analogy, that's like saying that murderers should be charged with larceny for stealing another persons life. At that point, it doesn't matter.
Again, I wrote the paper a year or two ago. I don't have it on me, so I don't have the exact definition. All I remember is my source for it said that the legal definition had been used to convict young children and husbands that combined incomes with their wives of "pimping".The infamous SCAMola said:I think it's a flawed definition.Ajna said:I believe that the definition states "any person other than the prostitute". I say legalize it, and wrote a 4 page essay on it a year or so ago.
And in response to the many questions I will get: Yes, I would be okay with my daughter being a prostitute, though I would not be happy with it for two reasons, unrelated to the job:
1)It is a low pay job. Hourly, you're making a killing, but considering you don't work a standard 9-to-5 job as a prostitute, you don't really make that much.
AND
2)Considering I'm going into teaching, I would expect any child of mine to go into a job that requires knowledge. Prostitution is a low-qualification job.
