Nope, Brits really don't care about it. It's a long time ago, Americans seem to care far more about it than we do, maybe thats just because you won?

That said, the film The Patriot still royaly pisses me off because of quite how far it demonises the British to ludicrous extent and I actually found myself rooting for the Red Coats more. It's the same problem I had with Braveheart, maybe it's just a Mel Gibson thing?

I mean there's a scene where there's some african americans working and a British officer offers them freedom if they fight for King and country. They say that're actually freed slaves payed to work and then the British guy in the most condescending and smarmy tone you could imagine says "Well then they will have the privillage of fighing in the Kings army wont they!". Oh yes British, bad, slavery boo hoo. Americans good, love black people, never held anyone slaves, don't have blemish on their record.

Oh and the idea that 3 boys with muskets can single handely take out a 20+ strong convoy is utter bollocks as well.

Well the English moved to America and had a battle. So it was a battle between some of the English and the other half of the English. I can't see how I, as an Englishman, can lose that battle.

I don't care.
I don't even know what the hell you are talking about, but having never heard of it before probably means it isn't such a big deal now.

Nobody in England cares about anything. We could lose in a war right now and I wouldn't be fussed, as long as I'm not affected by it.

Im sure American history is much richer as a result... *chuckels*
Unlike British history, which is so long and eventful, full of bloodied conflicts and what not.

Honestly? Most history classes in this country gloss over that part in history, or, to quote Mark Steel.

"Oh, yeah. That's America. We've gave that bit back."

Between the wars with Scotland, France, Spain, India, China, Zululand, Boars, Sudanese, Afgans,
Ottomans and Russians....we don't really give a toss.

Unless it's the French...beating the French is much more important.

It's not so much that we lost the revolutionary war as it is a reminder that our once mighty empire has been reduced to nothing more than a gaggle of islands off the coast of Europe that has become this liberal beacon of hope for all these immigrants to pour in. Being reminded that America had won its independence only serves to remind us of this fact, and it is that that people may be bitter toward.

But do we care? I don't think so, that's like asking if the world is still mad at Germany for starting two world wars. People have gotten over it by now. Of course you'll get the odd patriot who'll be mad, but not the general public. However if there's anything to be bitter about it may be that a major reason the US won its independence is because they got aid from France, who was pissed at us at the time. I can't remember why, but i know that had a significant impact on the war. Doesn't help when the global perception of the French isn't exactly a shining one to begin with.

i went to philadelphia one time in a tour group. the tour guide was ragging on the british couple in our group for losing the revolutionary war. they seemed perfectly happy to be joked about. it was all cool.
