N64 hands down, the range of games it had and the quality at the time was just mindblowing. I'd happily play Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie, Super MArio 64, Mario Kart 63 etc. over and over again

I would have to say that I would raise my child on the N64. It is in my opinion one of the best consoles to date with the amount of good games that have come out for it since it was created.

Whatever consoles I had, he / she would be welcome to use when they're old enough and assuming they'll take care of them. So current gen, future gen and retro. Not to mention PCs.

Rather than force upon the kid a system of my choosing (which would be a Playstation and/or PC), I'd wait until they were old enough to decide for themselves what kind of gamer they want to be. I would expose him/her to all the genres of gaming: FPS, RPG, action, strategy, puzzle, racing, etc. Then it's just a matter of what they like, and what system will satisfy those personal tastes.

That may seem like a cop-out to the poll, but it's not about what I want. It's what my child will enjoy the most
you summed up what I was thinking, just couldn't put the words together. IF my son wants to frag his little heart out in FPS or come up with the perfect build for his RPG character I will support him. Even if its a type of gaming I either fail at or dislike, it's his gaming experience

I voted other, reason being that My vote is for the original Xbox, it had decent graphics in some games but more importantly it had quite a few genre defining titles. Halo was one of them, another was Splinter Cell which hadn't been on a console until then. It also made the gaming network (XBLA) popular.

On a side note I would just like to point out that I only own an N64.

EDIT
Upon reading some of the other posts I have realized that forget the consoles, PC is the only gaming machine in my house.(no flame/bait intended)

Sure you can find some prime examples of games in today's consoles but let's be honest with ourselves here, we owe it to our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to come to raise them on games like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie & Tooie, THE BEST Mario (64), Donkey Kong 64, THE ORIGINAL Smash Brothers, THE BEST Star Fox (64), THE BEST Paper Mario, THE BEST Mario Tennis, THE BEST F-Zero (X), Remember the original Mario Party games? What about Snowboard Kids? Such a fantastic era of games, would you really raise a child on gritty realistic modern war shooters and douche-bag space marine centered games?! I think then you're only contributing to dumb-ass population statistic.
