Strangely enough, rap used to be my favourite genre. Then, at some point after the millenium, it all went wrong. It isn't the subject that ruins it, in my opinion, although it is more centred around gang culture than it was, but it's just that, well, it isn't as good as it used to be.

Of course, a certain person did make things worse by coming into rap and shouting "yooooou!" down everyone's ears. Not to mention later claiming he could make a better game than halo.

I hate it because of the style (non-instrumental talking) and a lot of the time I can't follow what they are rapping about (if it isn't gangstas and hoes I mean)

But what I hate most about it is the forced rhyming - they pick a word then can't think of anything related to that previous lyric so find something that doesn't make any sense..but it rhymes so it's all good

I'm a huge fan of mc chris.
...Too nerdy?
I don't really have many rap acts I'm a huge fan of, save for the aforementioned nerdcore artist and perhaps Tech N9ne. Beastie Boys on occasion as well.
Immortal Technique, perhaps?

Here's some good ones for people who think there is too much talking about money and gangs over bad music with no skill or technique.

Now the title of this form is what I usually see on the Escapist. I have been here for less than a year. ( I think ) Now I on the other hand like a lot of rap. Not the shit like Little Wain and or Drake. I personally hate those rappers with a passion because its where people get the generalization that rap is only about gangsters, hoes, cash, and sex. Yet a lot of rap is about deeper pain like Rehab, Fort minor and some of Eminem. Now I am not trying to say O RAPZZ IZ DE SHIZZ. No I actually like a lot of metal. Yet this is what I am wondering Do you think all rap is about gangsters and hoes and ect or just because you don't like the Genera, or is it something else?

(Also please don't think this is a mad rant or anything I am just curious)
I just simply don't like how it sounds. I perfer more instrumental songs anwyway. Also, it's "Genre" not "Genera"

I don't understand why I keep coming to these topics, which have started springing up at least once a week. If there's anything I've learned from the internet, it's "STFU, we don't care what you think!"

Seriously, there's absolutely nothing one can say to change anothers beliefs. Though rap has only created a few topics not addressed in other forms of music (Things like oppression in the black communities), let's all forget that Rock and the like has been objectifying women, hating authority, and doing obscene amount of drugs for decades.

I'd just like to say I'm a fan of rap, much of it does involve musical talent, and if you want to find good rap, just google it. Pick a name, and ask your friends about them. If more than five have heard of that person, move on to a new name.

Today it's just about all about ganstas and hoes. Most people here will acknowledge that rap was at least defendable... what, 10 years ago?
What was that? Ten years ago?

That's all from 2009. Rap is still defendable if you find the right rapper. Besides this guy, K'naan, there's also Lupe Fiasco, who's songs I would embed if I hadn't already embedded 4 others. But my point is, all rap isn't about sex, drugs, money, and how famous the rapper doing the song is. Most of it is, but some of it isn't, and that's the rap I like.

The way I look at it is, if I like the message behind the music, I like the song. As you can predict, I don't like most of the songs.

Yes I am.

Now I'm not only sure there are good white rappers, but I'm sure there are good white European rappers.

Edit: Before someone shoots me, I'll correct myself: Make that Australian rappers. Although, that's not too surprising.

I dislike the genre because I hate the elements of the music that classify it as rap.
Same here. I don't really like listening to people reciting poetry to a beat either.

This thread is now about why more people don't listen to Nerdcore.

Optimus Rhyme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQPfyBnXZWY
The Grammar Club - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rhA2c4hQvE
Schaffer The Darklord - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB4sTc5ZYEc
MC Frontalot - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVY3OdYTjIY
MC Lars - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxVPhaJtL8o
Captain Dan and the Scurvy Crew - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dabFuH7_Jxg
Zealous1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v91AFb2-NqM

I could go on, but that should be enough to get everyone started. :D Most rap/hip hop/whatever doesn't do anything for me, but I absolutely love Nerdcore.

EDIT: I almost forgot the god tier song of nerdcore - The Magnificent Seven. A collaboration between seven different artists that was composed entirely over Twitter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLdiTu0KJ5Q

I actually like a few Hip-Hop groups like A Tribe Called Quest.

Besides that, its just not a music genre that I regularly listen to.

First of all, rap isn't a genre. It's an art form/vocal style. Although the term is so popular it's used synonymously with hip hop.

Now, Hip Hop, which often contains rapping, is great. (Keep in mind, this is my opinion) And no it's not all about being 'gangsta'. Most people remain completely ignorant of this genre because all they've is heard is a few of the popular rappers like Dr Dre or Eminem or whoever, then make assumptions based on that. But just like any other genre, you get alternatives and differences within that genre.

Three examples of Hip hop:

See, the first song doesn't even have lyrics. The second is a far cry from the norm of what most of the popular rappers chat about, and the last contains singing, not rapping. But it's still Hip Hop.
Holy shite, that stuff is great.

Thank you for posting this.
