hmm this thread annoys me

peoples misconception of rap music really boils my blood - you cant just say "RAP" music and call it that genre

however i am a lover or rap and hip hop i dont like mainstteam MTV rap though that also boils my blood

heres my list of good artists ;)

Immortal Technique, MF Doom, Jedi Mind Tricks, Aesop Rock, Mr Lif, Dr Octagon, K-Os, Dialated Peoples, (sorta mainsteam) Lupe Fiasco, Canibus, Company Flow, El-P, Non Phixion, Atmosphere, Division X (good friends found em on myspace), Cage, Hanger 18, Wu Tang (gotta be), Army Of The Pharoahs, Substance Abuse, Jurrasic 5, Mos Def, Talib Kweli

sorry for that but thats what RAP music is to me (and none of them are just talking about blastic caps, hoes and shit) that image of rap music is only for small minded people that have never hear real rap artists
Dr. Octagon is FUCKED UP. I always liked that CD.

And of course, you must be the shining star of intellect and academia in Ms. Smith's 8th grade English class.
No, I'm just tired of their hostile behaviour. I believe they destroyed a door and a window once.

You're right, rap music made them do it.

Before the advent of hip hop, no one ever destroyed a door or a window once.
I get it. I will stop give rap the blame, and direct it at their minds instead.

Listen people, their can be no stereotyping by Genre until Scottish Pirate Metal is wiped from the earth.

Thats Right.

Scottish. Pirate. Metal. (search 'Alestorm' on youtube)

Welcome to the world of music genres my friend, don't make assumptions on anything.

Rap is shit, you can defend it all you want by pointing at the gold within it, but i can point to all the nutrients still resident in a bog-log (turd) i can find... and you still wouldn't eat it.

Because you would still be eating shit.

Im not trying to be harsh towards the fans, you can like all the Rap music you want, but like pedophiles, you can't expect us to show sympathy when you try to excuse your habits.

Note: I am not saying you are pedophiles, i am using the comparison to describe my attitude towards the justifications for rap.

Ok, so perhaps a little over the top, but i'm sick of justifications of Rap music. Because any genre that relies so heavily on justifications might well... be poor.

I Don't hate Rap the genre, just every song it has produced so far. The concept is great, but the execution to date simply stinks like a skunk in a urinal.

So please don't think i am attacking rap artists or rap fans. But understand that i am sick of hearing people trying to justify it.

OH DEAR GOD WHY?!
Rap is essentially reading out loud with a drum machine. This can sometimes be entertaining but more often than not it makes me want rip out my spine and shove it through my ears! More perplexing though, is how the hell did it make itself to be POPULAR?! I guess it's kind of like smoking, it seems new and exiting at first but after awhile you become addicted and end up annoying the fuck out of everyone around you.
Perhaps the MOST annoying thing about Rap/Hip-hop/Shit is rappERs and fans. You've seen them, in the mall, around schools, pretty much fucking everywhere. Notice how they wear the retarded baggy "shorts" that reach thier ankles? How about the pounds upon pounds of gold-ish jewelry that would make a medival knight cramp from lifting it? And who can forget the fact that they pretty much have thier own language, i.e. "Hey, supp dood, you like tha new Ice-T singal" I wish i was fucking kidding.
Bottom line- it takes attention away from better, more talented musicians- MORS PRINCIPIUM EST, Nevermore, and As Legend Has it to name a few.
If this has offended you, awesome, I don't care. In fact, i look forward to the slews of messages telling me that I am a filthy Heartless/Nazi/Douchebag and i deserve to die.
I welcome your hatred with open arms

Apparently, yet again, you fail to see the complexity of anything because you are too bullheaded and ignorant to look into it deeper and beyond the bad examples. If I wanted to, I could take Slipknot and 3 Door Down, hold them up high, and say

"Look at how shitty this music is! How could anyone listen to metal? How fucking dumb are these retards! Oh, and the fans are so dumb, just look at how they dress. They think that wearing all black and bondage pants looks cool? And look at all the fucking chains they wear, sweet god, they look like they just escaped from prison or an insane asylum. Fucking retards... and then just listen to how they talk. 'Dude! Here that new Metallica!? Fucking Metal! YEAH!'."

Then I'd be making the same exact arguement you are. The people that are taking away from good rappers are the bad rappers, because there are alot more bad rappers than good rappers (atleast, in the mainstream). Please tell me one good example where a man has tried to prove how easy it is to rap, and then sounded good doing it... Never. That's when.

Look at Anthrax! They are considered to be one of the most important metal bands in history and the father's of Thrash. And they are ENORMOUS fans of Hip Hop, going so far as to do a record with Public Enemy which was hugely successful before the time of nu-metal and rap metal.

And I'm a HUGE fan of metal and metalcore. I love everything from classic metal like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, to Scandinavian Death Metal like At The Gates, to modern metalcore like Born of Osiris and Through The Eyes Of The Dead. I see how technical and talented you have to be to be a successful (and still true) metal musician, and it takes just as much skill and time to become a great MC or producer, or DJ. Even though you don't have to keep melody, rapping is primarily riding a beat with syllables and using the English language to tell a story or to show how skillfull you are. Producers usually are talented keyboardist at the very least, and DJing is its whole own art form which takes years and years of practice to get any good at, let alone become famous.

For every shitty rapper with no talent, there's a shitty rock or metal band with no talent. But then there are good ones, the exceptions to mainstream shitty music. You just need to clear your head of your obvious ignorance towards the genre, stop looking down upon people who look, dress, and speak differently than you, and open your mind.

And what an original username you have.

I agree with most of what this man had to say (at least about Metalica), The problem is Ares Tyr that for every decent rap/hipity-hopity artist you can name, we (the fellows who don't like said types of music) can name ten bad ones.
I won't argue that Rock music has zero terrible bands, far from it. I just think the ratio of good bands to bad bands is much better for Rock music. Besides, half of the Rock's bad bands are in little sub genres of their own.

But yeah, today's Metal (on the whole) is pretty shit.

I respect that you just personally dislike the genre, old friend. And I'm sure its easy for you to find several more bad examples of Rap, being that you are critic of the genre itself to begin with. As Tupac once said, "I ain't mad atcha..."

Thanks for atleast agreeing with me. But at the same time, its not fair to say that Rock Band's of different genres automatically change the ratios of good to bad in rock in general. Example being that rap has its own genres, spanning from Reggaeton Dance Hall (which I dislike alot) and underground jazz-based hip hop (which I like alot, see The Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, and A Tribe Called Quest). And in reggaeton, there's alot more bad artists in my opinion, while in jazz hip hop, there's almost no bad examples (mostly because guys who have the taste to use jazz beats are usually smart to begin with). The same arguement can be made.

And being that I dislike most alternative rock, I'd be able to find more bad examples in it than say, metalcore, which is a genre I like more. Alot of people hold Tool to be the epitomy of alt rock/metal while I think they suck a big donkey dick (in a totally respecful way). The same way you might think that DMX is a horrible rapper because you dislike most (or all) Hip Hop, and so you can use him as a bad example while others who are fans of the genre would disagree. That sort of thing boils down to personal taste, not how "good" or "bad" a particular genre is. I like some alt rock, and I definetly don't think it's a bad genre, I just don't like alot of it. I think people who aren't a fan of most hip hop should have the same respect instead of just calling it "a big pile of rubbish" as a whole.

And for the record, I'm more of an Oasis and Foo Fighters man when it comes to Alt Rock.

How about we all agree that both genres are heavily flawed and accept Folk or Jazz music as the greatest genre that has ever existed?
