I have to say i'm quite partial to the wild Arms series. I loved and own Wild Arms, Wild Arms 3 and 4.
I want to get 2 ,just for the nostalgic value as i know 2 was simply awful but i'm a completionist.

Mass Effect series, as of Mass Effect 2 isnt an RPG series anymore.

Dont anyone bother with the same petty attempts at disagreeing. You spent 90% of the game shooting from behind cover: its a cover based TPS before ANYTHING else. FACT. Listen to the devs talk about how they developed the game. Its obvious.

My choice? Baldurs Gate. A time when Bioware made RPG, rather than destroyed them in a greedy pursuit of making dumbed down cash cow pieces of mediocre shit.

It's not a game as such, but any series/game done by Bioware are my favourites as they tend to be full, immersive experiences and well worth playing.

That said I had to vote for Mass Effect. Love that game

Im gonna go with Final Fantasy since you said series. Second place going to Mass Effect 1. Mass Effect 2 can fuck right off and only brought the series as a whole down.
Agree on FF EXCEPT (not including the FF7 spin-offs) that Final Fantasy is a franchise not a series. Or else somehow anything with Mario in the title is part of the Super Mario Bros series. Love the FF franchise though, even if it's sometimes laughably bad it still has its moments of epicness.
Also just to know, what was so bad about ME2 aside from the mining? Not being an ass, just curious.

And just where the hell are the JRPG's in your poll Hrm?
A diifficult choice but Probobly Suikoden is my favorite series overall even if my favorite individual RPG's are in different series or stand alones.

Mass Effect isn't an RPG it's a damn movie.

From your list, I pick Baldur's Gate (2)

Never figured out what "Baldur's Gate" actually was though.
It's a city If memory serves.

I dont care about people discussing JRPGs I just dont want assholes coming in here spewing there japan is god crap. Yeah I get it you like spreadsheet the game thats great for you. You dont need to point it out to me that I forgot to mention said games in my list. I will now say this for the third time I think I "forgot" JRPGs for a reason so deal with it or make your own topic.

Mass Effect is actually more of an RPG than Final Fantasy is, considering that your personal choices(ROLEplay) affect the game at a deep level. Leveling up is less a roleplay element than it is something rpgs often happen to have. Grinding is not a roleplay element, stats aren't a roleplay element unless you're playing something like D&D. Choices determining character development, ability to choose how the character interacts, is roleplay. Granted there are more in-depth choice-driven games than this one, but does that disqualify this one? Since it's not gold, silver is shit? Also, you can say you don't like something well enough, but there is no way you can claim BioWare "destroyed them [RPGs] in a greedy pursuit of making dumbed down cash cow pieces of mediocre shit" and not be stared at like a troll, fanboy(of X competitor to Y) or reactionary ass. Unless you're Yahtzee. Mass Effect is, put simply, a story-driven space drama. We label it as an RPG because of how we feel about it, how it fits the idea of playing a role. You want to call it an RPG just to say it isn't one? Please call me Nancy then call me a freak for having a girl's name.

Out of that selection, you can only really pick Baldur's Gate. To pick anything else would be criminal - Baldur's Gate II is one of the greatest games of all time, up there with Ocarina of Time and Mario Bros - I don't think that can be said for any of the others.

EDIT: Except maybe Diablo, but I only say that since I've never actually played Diablo, so I can't really pass fair comment on it.

I see your bias in that you don't even understand your enemy. Let me bold your problems.

"I just dont want assholes coming in here spewing there japan is god crap." Who so far has even done this in the entire thread? I've never even MET someone who is like this but people look like they want to punch me in the face at the mention of Xenosaga regardless! "you like spreadsheet the game" Ever play one? Even D&D isn't like that, and JRPGs are less mathematical than that game. Most JRPGs are turn-based, but so is chess, so are many other STRATEGY games. Maybe a better name for JRPG should be JTBS(J-turn-based-strategy), except that JRPGs have some elements from the old point-and-click adventures that are more RPG than a lot of the stuff we have now. So you hate the fans because some are stupid, and hate the games when you don't understand them. You don't have to like them, but you don't have to insult us either.

Ok now this is starting to get annoying so I guess it must be said. ALL JRPGS ARE JUST THE SAME PRE-PUBESCENT KIDS SAVING THE PLANET WITH THE SAME BASIC PREMISE OF A LOVE INTEREST AND A DOPEY SIDE KICK. If you feel otherwise or if you feel WRPGs are the same way be free to create your own topic but dont just come in here and start acting all smug like I just forgot about JRPGs. I dont like them and I dont hate them. I just dont want anything to do with them.
You're the only one acting smug. And yelling. All comments of "wish there were JRPGs on this list were offhand and inoffensive. And you knoww nothing about JRPGs as I've already said. And apparently you do hate them because your word structuure indicates you hate their fans who have been nothing but polite to you. And I'm dogging you because I like to catch people who get pissed off for no reason. Call it chaotic-good trolling. Also, this guy is my idol, weeding out a completely ANAL vent leader.

The only RPG's I like to play are Pokémon or perhaps Disgaea, Skies of Arcadia or Tales of Symphonia.

I play D&D (the mother of all RPG's) I've played Final Fantasy 3 and I don't like the DS version of Kingdom Hearts (which I'd rather call Grinding & Cutscenes)

I have played a bit of Oblivion and the system just bugs me.

Agreed. As much as I've had fun with at least one installment of most of the ones on the poll, nothing beats good, old-fashioned table-top RPGs. They use "sandboxes" that can cover entire surface of Mars. There's really nothing comparable in video games to the amount of freedom you get with most pen and paper RPGs.

Exactly. If I have to pick a favorite video game RPG it'd probably be the KOTOR series and Shadow Hearts.

i went with Elder Scrolls. that series has really good story telling, and like how they have lots of lore. iv only played games from 3 of the series on the list. i assume most of the "others" are FF.
