75% of the time when I'm stuck it's because I don't know where to go rather than it being difficult. Walkthroughs are great because you can get past that part and get back to the game instead of wasting time going in circles.

I almost never use cheats. IF i use them, then only to fool around.
I remember only once when i had to use cheats to finish a game. The game was Max Payne, and i was really young when i was playing it. The game was in Russian, and i didn't speak a word of it, so i had trouble at several spots. However, i had to use cheats on the very final place in the game, on the rooftop. The cheat was that i was able to jump really high. Later i finished the game without cheats.

I rarely if ever cheat.

Last time I cheated was in Drakensang where I entered the caves of rat-queen (spikes grow behind you and you can't leave) and STUPIDLY QUICKSAVED. Last real save was about 3 hours earlier and I didn't really feel like doing it all again, after 10 attempts at beating the Rat-Queen/Mother (first REAL battle in the game) I got pissed off and used an editor to modify save and make my character into deadly monster. After the battle I quickly returned to the original stats but I sill felt bad. (all skills were unlocked and there wasn't really a way to lock them back)
So a day later I loaded the earlier save, beat those 3 hours and owned Rat-Queen on first attempt... All I needed was some rest :p.

I also cheated in GTA4 this month but I already beat the game and cheating was just there to amuse my 12 years old cousin.

Ok, I don't really use cheats much these days, as in codes or subverting the programs.
I do occasionally glitch(L4D has rooms where zombies don't attack on the Finale for example), when I see an impossible(for me) or otherwise irritating obstacle. You see, I know approx. one good player, and I don't enjoy trolling the servers for actually players amongst the idiots, so I got my buddy and WE got through expert, using a little aid to stop the damn idiot computers from fucking us up.
Also have used walkthroughs for certain things, usually puzzles, because after an hour of banging my head against the wall with a puzzle, the purpose of my gaming(recreation) is gone, and It is entirely possible I TRIED the right thing and the game is glitched or something.
One time in KoToR, I got on trial on Manaan, I tried every dialog option I could think of, and died every time, only to find out the logical choice(accepting a court lawyer) guaranteed your death. Thats not cool, Basically the only way to not die is snub the lifeline,it made no sense and I almost quit the game because I simply had no idea what to do.
As for farming etc, depends, I have been known to powerlevel, or take a lvl1 borderlands character to a 2nd playthrough Eridian Promontory so I can get him to 40 in ten mins.
But realize how many guns and upgrades I never find doing that, I am trading loot for speed, its a choice.
I have even boosted on occasion, mostly Cod4, I was really good at the competitive mode, but headshots take forever, and I really didn't want to lose my accuracy rating(was over 20 for a bit), and risk my ratio(55000/43000 or similar), to get them, so I did some boosting for my Golds. Anyway, I like my G3 and AK-47, giving them up to get headshots for the freaking M16? No.

Finally, I think games are for fun, challenge is personally my style I did MW2 and GoW2 on the hardest mode no prob. But some times there are in game rewards, like extra costumes, guitars and paint colors, that have no effect on the game other than my enjoyment, at which point I seen no reason to be denied my satisfaction, I will cheat conventionally, code or subversion, but since these days, achieving the item I want is either easy or uncheatable, I have little problem. So yeah, I will use codes to unlock the last songs on GH3 even though I cant play Raining Blood, because I don't see why it matters.

I try not to use either, but sometimes plot points lack proper clues or the logic in the game makes no sense. That's usually a bad sign, though, so if I need a walkthrough to complete a game I'm less likely to actually finish it or replay it.

Cheats are only there for when you want to stuff around or have fun.

Walkthroughs... I feel ashamed just saying it.

I consult the wisdom of other players. Walkthroughs, FAQs and forums. This is pretty much like asking other people for help by proxy. I NEVER use cheat codes, because once you start using them, it's hard to stop. Also, they tend to obliterate any challenge, while reading a walkthrough might tell you what you need to do but it's still likely a challenge to actually do it...

NEVER used a cheatcode. Not since before N64. Hell even SNES I never cheated. I use walkthroughs sometimes though.

Walkthroughs, yes. Cheat codes I will only EVER use when I'm bored and pissing around killing people in the game and the majority of the time, I use them in open world games - killing civilians.

I haven't cheated in a game in years. Partly because i like actually playing and beating games on my own and partly because less and less games have cheats in them these days.

I had no choice but to look up a walkthrough for the Bahamut Eidolon fight in FF13. Still can't beat him. He attacks so damn fast, and hits everyone for a massive amount of damage. It's just not fair.
use all of the pre-battle things that give you powers at the beginning of battle (except for the one which lets you get a pre-emptive strike) and then just spam attack, heal if necessary but if you're leveled properly then you should be able to beat him without healing magic/items.

Usually it's because I am mildly ocd and I hate missing chests etc

other times it's because to progress you have to find something tiny or do something obscure that doesnt make sense or bad games design

mostly its things like dragon age where I'll go through a part and read the part i just went though to see if I've missed any chests or items for achievements. Reading a walkthrough before doing everything is just a bit too easy.

tbh most games I dont bother but collectables with ingam effects and stat boosting objects I have to have them or I can't go on with the game knowing that I've missed something important.

I tend to persevere for ages, then go to a walkthrough (for those arse-fights like Yunalesca (what a b***h)), or for 'gather' quests where there are those two or so that are in some really obscure area that has an inconspicuous entrance (or for games that are like "Want something really cool as the result of a one-time event? Well look no further, because if you do you would have passed the opportunity and it is lost to you until you dcide to restart and do those 30 hours of gameplay again!!!").

Or cheats for GTA, but that's for funzies.

I only ever use walkthroughs, and that's only if I'm really stuck or am playing a JRPG (for which I usually get the strategy guide from my local GAME anyway, so I can complete it 100% without having to spend ages exploring every single avenue just in case there's an obscure sidequest or something I don't know about).

I will use cheats when I finish a game or to have extra fun in sandbox games, like the GTA series, but usually I just stick to the walkthroughs online for tough bits...

WALKTHROUGH, i consider myself a pretty accomplished gamer, but i curse designers that make a point in a game with "what the hell do i do now?" moments. They have no right to exist.

"If violence was your last resort, you didn't resort to enough of it."
Wait, you mean videogames?
I've never come across anything that required cheating because it was too hard. If I get stuck, I look up a walkthrough.
And yes, I cheat too, but fuck you, it's my game.
