ghosts Because technically there is no way you can actually kill one.

Zombies. Cause think about it they might be slow and stupid but they make up for it in numbers. Would you rather be trapped in a room with a mutant but you have a gun with one bullet in it, or a room filled with zombies and you only have a gun with a bullet in it. Plus if a zombie bites someone close to you then your going to have to kill them. I think that's the most depressing thing ever "sorry (insert person close to you here)" *bang*

The scariest character I can think of is one that doesn't have an identity per se, but rather it is an omnipotent malevolence. The town of Silent Hill is a prime example of this. It's an enemy you can't face, and it can't be defeated. That, and it's just plain horrifying.

A vengeful spirit: Go get a priest. Or maybe just a vaccum cleaner or something, besides, if they have no physical form, how would they even hurt you? How dull.

A zombie horde: Ever wonder why the undead would rather eat brains than like, I don't know, contribute their past knowledge to future, maybe see a movie or something? Four words: Rocket Powered Chainsaw Shotgun

Mutants or monsters: Probably my choice.

Dolls: Dolls? Come on! They're like six inches high at most! Just kick it or maybe stand on top of a tall chair, geez.

Clowns: Clowns? Children entertainers? Why don't we just add street jugglers or maybe balloon animals in there too: how scary!

A murderer: Probably the most realistic, which is why I sleep with my rocket powers chainsaw gun under my pillow at all times.

Aliens: Oh. Aliens. How original. Just splash some water on them, sheeeesh.

The spirit would be my least favorable choice, but I REALLY FUCKING WANT A ZOMBIE INVASION! So I would go with the zombie horde simply because I want it to happen.

I had to pick zombies, just for the fact the may be slow moving but no one, I repeat NO ONE bothers to shoot them in the head before they become a problem, then before you know it we'll have a Resident Evil (game versions, the mvoies sucked) situation on our hands!

I've always been afraid of zombies the most. Not the actual living undead, but the whole disease-thing. I'd hate to live in a world where all my loved ones could end up dying, then coming back to kill me.

Ghosts are intangible, and therefore would pose the greatest threat. Ghosts are a metaphysical threat which require a metaphysical solution such as exorcism or busting [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters] while one could simply use a BFG to take care of the other listed belligerents.

I personally find Dolls, and Clowns to be the scariest two, mainly because of the creep factor. A vengeful spirit isn't that scary unless its a poltergeist, more of a nuisance then anything else. A zombie horde (Romero style) is easy, as long as you don't get cramp or a stitch just walk the other way, the other faster kind are admittedly very scary. Mutants and monsters can be very scary, except very few people actually make them scary, and if they appeared in real life there is a very good chance you would come across a human body on a rabbits head, and because of that, they are too funny to be the scariest. A murder is scary because its the only one that could really happen (except the Clowns, but then they would become murders) but there isn't not much left to the imagination. And aliens aren't really scary anymore, they all look like the same basic shape as humans nowadays, and are just a bit rubbish.

A murder cos it could ACTUALLY HAPPEN.

Besides most horror movies with aliens/(usually) zombies/other generic shit are usually cheesey and so bad id rather eat my own eyes than watch them.

Zombies were good in Shaun of the Dead though.

Clowns. Remember Pennywise?
Well he wasn't a clown, he was an alien crab thing disguised as a clown. But the clown was the creepy bit that made him so iconic.

1. A vengeful spirit: If you pissed him off you'd better find out if you can make amends.

2. A zombie horde: They'd never be able to escape from their coffins thus rendering all your strategies moot.

3. Mutants or monsters: What do you have against them? Maybe they just want acceptance!

4. Dolls: Nothing that a metal shovel can't fix.

5. Clowns: John Wayne Gacy didn't dress up as a clown when he killed people it was and old job he had. Give these people a break, they have such a bad rep as it is.

6. A murderer: The most realistic one but the most easy solution: just go and buy a gun you moron!

7. Aliens: Read Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhood's End" and see that not all aliens are bad, but read William Campbell's "Who Goes There?" or see John Carpenter's movie adaption, "The Thing" and see that maybe they aren't all friendly.

But then you become the thing that you have just tried to rid yourself of! That's usually considered bad.

Dolls. A hundred thousand million billion times this. I hate them so much, especially Ch***y. That little B*stard has haunted many a bad dream of mine...

Edit: and on that happy note, just got my 1000th post.
