The subconscious decision based on sex only applies to, well, tards. Anybody else can see through shit like that.

Addendum: If the product itself is meant to focus on sex(porn, sex toys, hentai games etc) That doesn't count. Condemning that would be like condemning a restaraunt for advertising delicious food.
I completely agree. well said.

Yes but I had interest in the games as well. It usually turned out good like Resident Evil 4 and Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time (He was ugly in the rest of the games). I thought Link was hot when I was a kid but even the grown up Link looks sorta jail-bate-ish now.

P.S. The evony adds where they show that it`s just a RTS game got my attention better.

You people on your lofty moral high ground crack me up.

Yes, sex sells for me. Nothing subconscious about it, either, I buy the products on a purely conscious level.

When I see sex in advertising, I believe that this is a good thing. I like sex and I like to see sexual things as often as possible. Sex makes what would otherwise be annoying ads a lot more tolerable. So I make sure that I purchase that product or service when possible, so people in advertising get positive reinforcement and see the effectiveness of sex in advertising. This way I hopefully send a message to them that they should continue to use sex in advertising, which then means that I get to see more sex in advertising. In the meantime, they made money. So we're all winners.

If their only thing to advertise is "hey... Hot chicks..." I tend to think what they have sucks, so they distract you. I'm okay with it, I won't buy it, but hey, who's against the exploitation of women? (Kidding...)

While it does grab my attention, in the end it is just a pretty face or pretty girl on the cover. It does the same thing as if I saw a male character with really nice looking armor or a nice gun. But it has yet to get me to fork over some money for it.

I don't mind if there is a half naked character on it, but the game has to have some more substance to it for me to actually buy it. That's more like a bonus, because the main attraction for me is a game. If i wanted to see half naked people I'd go to the beach, which doesn't cost $60.

One of my friends had convinced me to play Evony with him before the irrelevant but boobiful ads came. when those ads came, i had had my fill of the game, decided it wasn't really all that fun and stopped playing it in favor of playing games that were more fun. to be honest i felt insulted when i saw those ads. I think it was the complete irrelevance to the game that made me actually really not like it.

Hawt gurls should have nothing to do with products I'm buying. If they're on there I know the creator is trying to use some cheap marketing tactics. I don't buy things that should feature something like those Evony ads. If something like that's on there, I would skip over it.

Sex-based advertisements leave me with the impression that the product is trashy, to be honest. I usually avoid it after that.

Thanks for doing this thread.

I have found it as icing once or twice on top of a movie with a solid story-line to begin with. And I don't mind sex/cheesecake/beefcake in context. I do hate the over-abundance of it in games and it can seriously turn me off of a game I would otherwise enjoy. And it has even wrecked a movie or two when it had scenes dropped in that seemed to be disjointed from the rest of the show.

So sex sells...in context, with careful use.

Well, if it's a magazine I'd probably pick it up if it had a hot chick half naked on it, not buy it (god no) but I'd be interested enough to look.

No, an attractive girl has never sold me a product, (mores the pity) but your avatar is giving me an awesome trip. Thanks for that dude!

Also, in other news: I am loving the Megadeth reference!

When Forgetting Sarah Marshall was being advertised, they used mainly posters that didn't include Jason Segal's face because test audiences didn't find him attractive enough and responded more to the posters without his face in it.
Point being: Even if it's subconscious, or if the sex factor isn't as overt as it is in evony, people are more attracted to things when they have pretty and shiny stuff attached. If Abercrombie&Fitch didn't have those male models, I doubt they would still be in business today because it sure as hell isn't the clothing that brings people to the store.

@every person in this thread who said no:

you're right, a sexy person in an ad hasn't sold you a product. The relationship between advertising and purchasing is much more subtle and complex.

Guaranteed that every single one of you have paid more attention to an ad on one or more occasions because it had a sexy person in it though.

The mere fact that the OP said "those evony ads" and virtually everyone here probably knew what he was talking about immediately is evidence of this.

This should've been the only reply in the thread.

I will not click an ad because there's a girl with her panties down on it. I will, however, be much more enticed to notice said ad and unintentionally remember the logo on it instead of one that says "You're a winner!"
