I was simply saying for the complete Next Gen experience, minus a few games that I can count on ONE hand, you don't exactly need a 360 if you have a decent gaming PC.

Don't get so riled up mate, no need to break out the "list".

That list also includes Yaris. I think the unspoken agreement was that they be good, or at least not claw-your-eyeballs-out horrible.
Yeah I suppose it does. So that's 133 games and one godless abomination given flesh.

Please try not to turn every console thread into a flamewar, guys.

Anyway, OP:
Since you have a 360, I think buying a PS3 would mainly be a luxury thing. The demonstrations of Blu-Ray I've seen definitly look nicer than a standard DVD player, but the difference is not huge. I doubt you will get more out of movies just because your player makes everything a little sharper and more real to look at. It's just a bad argument to get you to spend more money on something you already have in a slightly less fancy version.
As for games, the number of cross-platform titles are still bigger compared to the exclusives, and if the last gen is any sort of indicator, it will stay that way for a long time. I think you need to take a good hard look at the PS3 exclusives and think about whether you really need these games and have time to play them.

Also, to be fair, point 2 of your argument is invalid, because I stated IF you have a GAMING PC.
Oh crap I forgot to type the actual point in that one while I was in rant mode, well I'll just put it here..

A friend of mine has a very good gaming PC, it's very good at playing games (he plays Crysis no problem) but as a result it doesn't do much else very well, I like to compare it to the mutant things from 'The Hills Have Eyes', it may be stronger or faster, but we all know who is smarter and better looking.

And finally is the backwards compatibility. The 40 gig version doesn't have any, which sort of annoys me because I still have some great PS2 games I'd love to play again. So all in all I'm basically trying to decide if it's worth it.
If you have some PS2 games, I assume you have a PS2. It doesn't hurt to keep it just to run your PS1/2 games. The backwards compatability of the PS3 is a bit glitchy, anyway. Plus you'd have to throw away your saved games.

The biggest thing to think about when considering a new console is games, obviously. Not just one game, though, rather the style of games you play. If you like FPSs over any other genre, don't get a PS3. It's that simple.

The PS3 has Resistance, which is a great game, but still, the controller isn't tailored towards FPSs like the 360's is.

If you want a great mix of genres, and have quite a few games in mind that you'd want for the PS3, I'd say go for it. If you want it for LBP alone, I'm not so sure.

Personally, a PC/XBox 360 set-up covers me for every genre I like, and the only exclusive I'm really going to miss is GoW 3 - which I can deal with.
How the fuck is the 360 controller tailored for FPS's? That is the biggest load of bullshit I have EVER heard.
Especially since the FragFX controller is out, giving PS3s mouse precision. It saved Call of Duty 4 for me.

And yes, buy it. It's a great console, with awesome exclusives (if you like single player games) so if you can muster up the cash to get some HDMI cables with it go for it.

PS3 Pros
Blu-ray on HDTV
'some' games, GT5:prologue, MGS4, Resistance (still good though)
Near-silent operation
free online play

X360 pros
cheap console
cheap games
my best online experience ever

Ok, i'll be honest, 95% of my gaming is done on the xbox, even if multi-platform. Apart from a few ps3 exclusives, my PS3 is only used to play lovefilm blu-rays.

EDIT: oh, and my Sony Walkman synchs up very nicely to the PS3 too - The earth visualiser is amazing.
EDIT #2: changed 'best online experience ever' to 'my best online experience ever'

To answer your question. Based on what you want out of your games. You sound like me. I've owned all the three current gen systems. The PS3's line up doesn't seem too strong then again all the Playstation systems were not exactly my favorites. I got my PS3 by trading my brother my wii. And while I got bored with the wii quickly I regretted that decision. The PS3 games all look horribly slow to me. And that's something I could not deal with. And the exclusives that they have didn't interested me (On a side note I don't see what the appeal of little big planet is). But of course this is my opinion. I suggest getting a used one first and see if you like it. If you do, take it back and buy a brand new one. If you don't, take it back and keep your money. (I only say that cause I live in whack ass New york state where they don't like taking things back that were brand new just because you don't like it.

Bull - shit. Even if we accept that the Live experience is better than the PsN, it is still leagues behind PC's.

And as for cheap games, they're the same price.
Unless he is referring to games with a total budget of $200 AUD. *COUGH*vampire rain*COUGH*

There are many reasons to buy a PS3, but here's just two:

Firstly, the PS3 is more advanced. Nobody is willing to prove this yet, but as with all consoles people will eventually pull their finger out, and when they do the PS3 will be akin to god whilst the 360 will still be a Microsoft product.

Secondly, you can download all those PSX games you never actually managed to buy the first time around, and by the time you could buy them you had the sequel's sequel on PS2 and so didn't and have always regretted it. Yes, X-Box live is getting Duke Nukem 3D, but I for one would much rather they just finished DUKE NUKEM FUCKING FOREVER instead of re-releasing a game that looks very old and dated and only looks MORE dated for being on a 7th Gen console.

Ok then, 'my' best on-line experience ever

sat on nice comfy sofa
42" hi def panel
7.1 audio system
xbox live
Mic
tf2

beats sat haunched at a pc! PSN is ok, only used it for GT5:p so far. I'm sure it will get going properly soon, but to be honest all my mates have a 360 and use live!

As for cheap games, i very rarely buy new, unless it's a title i have been looking forward to for a long time (C&C:RA3). Everything else goes down the 2nd hand/trade-in route. Based on the same game in the UK, the PS3 2nd hand game is often 2 to 3 times the price of the 360 version.

I'd say yes Just because of the up coming release of LBP, i so want a ps3 just cause of that game, but im poor as hell now, that plus i'm about to get together with this girl i really love, so thats gonna cost me some, cause she lives kinda far away from me, that and im getting a tattoo soon, so im not even close to affording it, but im hoping a mate buys LBP so i can atleast try it out :p.

so if i were you, i'd go for it.

So, your saying you haven't played Resistance or MGO? What the hell is wrong with you boy? Unless you've joined in a Chimeran Treehouse Burn-and-Brain, or joined a multiple End fight, you really haven't seen what online has to offer.
Resistance Online with Unlimited Air Fuel grenades is like 3 dimensional snake. With air. That lights on FUCKING FIRE!

I like my 360 and the games it has to offer, but thats just me. Cant wait for Fable 2!!!! and i'd never use the Blu-ray feature cause i'm not gonna pay more for movies for an unnoticable difference in quality.
