Hmmmm... Well, I loved the Elites. Why not have a game based around them and their warrior code? The thousands of wars they must have fought against the aliens upon all the worlds they have searched for a sign of the Forerunners?
Why not a game where you can customise your Elites armour and weaponry, like a hack and slasher or a third-person view? It could focus on close combat, coz lets face it, the Plasma Sword is the coolest weapon in Halo. You could choose from a wide variety of melee weapons like Energy Pikes and custom blades, hammers, and why not a Plasma Bow or something? As well as hand shields, special armour and Forerunner tech reverse-engineered. You could explore and conquer dozens of planets within systems, get beamed down to a possible piece of Forerunner tech and fight your way through the planet's inhabitants, forced to swallow the orders of the Prophets, no matter the cost.
You see now THATS the kind of thing I was thinking (and hoping) people would post rather than just "Let it die Let it die Let it die" over and over again.

The whole 'fight your way through the planets inhabitants' thing would be utter awesome.

I reckon the Halo series should pass on gracefully, rather than hanging on and on and on until everyone except the diehard fans are sick of it. Bungie made a concerted effort to end the series with Reach, including in the game the fantastic Forgeworld which kinda said to the players: "We want you to continue creating Halo. After ten years we wanna do something else." and I can see where they're coming from. I'm reminded of Yahtzee's review of Tales of Monkey Island where he goes into the need for series' to end and to reach some form of closure rather than dragging endlessly on. C'mon guys and gals - I know a lot of people out there like Halo (I'm one of them), but the game devs at Bungie are game devs not Halo devs, and after a decade of working on one project I reckon they should be allowed to express their creativity how they want, not how we demand them to.

The Halo series should stop now. Although if I had a gun to my head and forced to choose what the next game was to be, I'd like to see some book adaptions.

the story reached it's conclusion (chronologically) with 3, so the only way is backwards.

There's not much else to do with the series.

It was fun and all. There's only one thing that Bungie forgot to do...A Red vs Blue game.

Oh yes, a Halo movie that explores the darkside of being a Spartan would be nice.

e with addicting multiplayer (nobody can deny that fact)
I can. I played the mutliplayer on Halo 3 and found it boring.

I found Halo 1 on the PC to be quite fun though, if you count Custom Edition.

I would really like them to remake the halo games for the ps3 and make it cross platform

A great and complex masterfully crafted Sci-Fi universe in which you discover something new and interesting every time you play, and with enjoyable game-play would interest me. As much as I enjoy Halo I don't really see this sort of thing coming from that world. Mass Effect on the other hand...

If it's anything like this picture:

I would welcome it.

Holy shit. Yes.

If Halo must come back, then perhaps expansion-sequel things built on Reach's engine (in the same vein as ODST, which inhabited a nebulous territory between full sequel and expansion to Halo 3) where you play as a Sangheili, fighting first humans and heretics, then the loyalist Covenant would be cool. Preferably it would remain an FPS with the Halo formula, which I find just works and is great fun.

As a long time Halo fan. I think I have the right to say, no, halo should not be continued.
Its left its mark on the earth, For better or worse the Halo franchise is done. A halo film? possibly, but the games are done.

343 industries have yet to be tested, though ill doubt they'll stray far from Bungies ways, im on the fence about because the setting and the plot will make or break the deal with me, the need to branch out and do something interesting, maybe even after the Human-Cove war to give them a little more freedom to do so.

LET IT DIE

Half-life:

OH MY GOD A SCIENCE EXPERIMENT WENT WRONG. OMG EARTH IS BEING INVADED BY ALIENS AND ZOMBIEZ AND YOU'RE PART OF A RESISTANCE MOVEMENT! HOW UTTERLY ORIGINAL, ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THIS HAS EVER BEEN DONE BEFORE EVAR! (Though I do actually think HL's story is nothing special.)
That's the thing, half-life never had an awesome plot. It's the storytelling and narrative that made it good.

In the immortal words of TVtropes, Your Mileage may Vary. I personally prefer Halo's method of storytelling to Half-life 2's (the only HL game I've played/am playing). Half-life 2's interactive storytelling doesn't really do it for me, I prefer cutscenes.

I would find a "meanwhile in Half-Life" pic to respond to yours, but since Gordon Freeman is apparently completely invisible this would be futile. Seriously, the guy is just a floating crowbar with telekinetic powers. Besides, that pic doesn't make any sense.

Its had a good run, but put it out to pasture before it jumps the shark (to borrow a TV phrase).
Being that Bungie is no longer at the helm, all future games wouldn't quite be the same anyway. So let them take the money they made off the series and start a new franchise. Sans Microsoft.

I think it should end after a few things, but these are only personal wants:
A truly awesome movie about the events of Reach, and bumps up Noble Team to full-on Spartan-IIs for more badassery, and it should just really grasp the emotional depth of sadness that is a WHOLE DAMN PLANET getting burned and destroyed.
Just awesome scenes depicting it's downfall, I dunno, like the whole battle of Alexandria (That was awesome in the games), and maybe some Covenant dropping Drop Pods of Elites into a suburban, defenseless area. Stuff like that, if you get what I mean.

I'd also like DLC/A game (ODST-style) of what Jun does after he survives, maybe participating in the Battle of Earth, and it finishing with a cutscene of him with the other troops at the UNSC Memorial near Killimanjaro from H3.

I think having a Halo 4 would be great, maybe Chief landing on that planet and meeting the Forerunners, fighting more flood and Covenant for variosu reasons, etc. But I'd be just as happy leaving Master Chief's fate permenantly ambiguous. I mean, it's nice being able to speculate, and I think it's a great end to the story; how boring would it be if we KNEW that he died heroically in battle/survived and retired an old grizzled man?

It's interesting to see the veriety of opinions in this thread.

But anyway- My opinions are fairly limited, given my limited experiance with the series. I've played a little Halo 3 campaign, about half the halo 1 campaign, and I cleared ODST in one night with a friend a few days ago. I do like the sound of an Elites- based game. It does look cool.

On the other hand, you guys seem to dislike the ODST group. I can understand, the story was imperfect and I didn't really find much out about ODSTs and I wasn't given any reason to want to. I was actually dissapointed, though- the gameplay basically made ODSTs spartans, but with stamina instead of shields. This took something away from it- when I heard about ODST back when it was released, I was under the understanding you played as ordinary humans rather than Spartans. When I finally got a copy and all the basic weapons where silenced, I was under the impression you played a significantly squishier character who had to sneak and use stealth and terrain manipulation to stay alive. This was true to an extent, but not much, I found. So what I'd like to see is an ODST game where stealth and silent kills are vital, cuz when you attract large amounts of enemies, you can't just ignore their bullets and/or plasma in the absurd fashion Rookie and the other ODST characters do.

Maybe one where they actually get to carry out the intended mission, rather than missing their goddamn drop target and crash landing.

How unexpected! A forum filled with PC elitists thinks Halo shouldn't go on!

Next they'll say Valve is good or something. Shocking!
I was just thinking as I was voting in the poll:

"I wonder how many people voted to end the series that have either never played Halo, are a PC gamer or just hate halo altogether"

The poll should be restricted to people who actually liked and played halo so the answers are at least varied a bit more...

No way, sequels are stupid cash-ins, even when a very vague story can continue to be told.

Now, Valve just needs to release Half-Life 5... er, Episode 3.
