You people make me laugh at how you argue that you can get for medical purposes. If someone does need THC, they don't hand them a bong. The law doesn't give a shit if you want to get high with your buddies in a cheap apartment building.

I think you should do a little research into how medical marijuana works, especially in California.

You should also read the posts in this thread made by people who support legalization and how they are arguing their side with reasons as to why they think legalization would be a good thing instead of just insulting the other side of the argument.

No. I won't because I really don't give a shit. Here are some reasons as to why:

1. 100% of you don't care about medical purposes, you just want to get high without the cops bugging you.
2. To those with medical problems, they can already get medical marijuana.
3. I am inclined to agree that those people working in Government service positions make more money than you or I. They are also most definitely smarter than us. Would you agree? So, ergo, they know the legality of "legal marijuana" more than you could ever possibly hope to conceive.

Cigarettes kill people. Alcohol causes people to make silly mistakes. Marijuana turns people into vegetables while doing the same consequences of the previous addictions, respectively. I don't really care about what people have to say about that because I've seen first hand what it does to people. It is not normal for someone to have to really think hard to do something as easy as speech.

Example condensed real conversation I had with a friend:
Friend: "Umm...dude, so...how's it been hanging?"
Myself: "I'm doing great. I haven't seen you in a while. What have you been up to?"
Friend: "...you remember that accident I got in? I got 12,000 dollars from that last week."
Myself: "Awesome, you should give me some." Followed by with some laughter.
Friend: "Haha, I've already spent half of it on weed. Fuckin'...great stuff dude."
Myself: "Well, that's just grand."
Friend: "I know. Oh yeah, you should be in my umm...band. My guitarist makes riffs like amazing. He does it like magic. He just, I don't know dude. He plays and it's like magic. Anyway, I got to go dude. I'll see you later."

Yeah. He used to be a smart kid, lots of charisma and now he's an idiot. This applies to basically every one I know who smokes pot on a daily basis.

If America does it first, I'm sure Canada will be right behind it, so hoorah for that. I just don't want Canada legalizing it while the US still has it banned. That would be a nightmare.

I know it's bad etiquette to make posts only based on the first and last page of a thread, but it was just too tempting:

All issue with marijuana aside (since I've already stated my opinion and there are plenty of eloquent postings who have made their arguments to the same ends) there's an old saying in poker:

If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, it's you.

iow, if you are completely content with kowtowing to someone just because of the job they hold, and the possibility of them being just as if not more incompetent than you never crosses your mind, it's because you lack the mental capacity for it.

1.) You're presuming motives. I really don't care for marijuana, I don't smoke so it's too harsh on my lovely pink lungs.
2.) In select states.
3.) I'm sorry, but you're making a false appeal to authority. I may think that a paleontologist is absolutely brilliant, but I'm not going to trust him for medical advice. The laws which were made about marijuana were made decades ago, most modern studies contradict the studies used as evidence in the decisions to criminalize marijuana.

You have contributed so much to this debate, you're like the second coming of Cicero. And not only that, you are an unparalleled expert on the topic. Not to mention incredibly civil.

Of course it should be legal, why? The government simply doesn't have the right to tell you what substances you can put into your body. Nor do they have the right to arrest you for a victimless crime. Governments need to stop treating their citizens like children, if responsible adults want to light up a joint then there should be no law against it in a sane society.

You don't like pot? Fine. Don't smoke it. But don't get all high (oh bad pun) and mighty demanding that others conform to your beliefs.

If it could be legally sold and the US government taxed it, we'd be out of debt in a year.
Because pot tax will get the US government $10 trillion. Right.
Are you kidding me? Maybe the "year" was a bit of an exaggeration but if you add up all the money that the government would make on taxes, and the amount of money they would save by not having to fight against it, we could be nearly debt free a hell of a lot faster than we could any other way.

I don't think you understand how much money $10 trillion is.

$42 billion each year? Cool, we'll pay off the debt in nearly forty years (including the ridiculous interest)... assuming, of course, that the money won't be used elsewhere (it will).

I'm too lazy to post a long reply so I'll just suggest that everyone watch "The American Drug War: The Last White Hope" if you want to see how much of a sham the war on drugs is.

Sorry, but are you mentally retarded? You're clearly one of those American children who has been taught that weed is just as bad as any hard drug. Dear god I feel sorry for your brain. Come back here when you have grown up.

Oh btw. Please explain to me how weed can be illegal in Holland, and they barely have any social rejects/homeless people. The US, however has a lot of those.

To be honest, everyone keeps giving me different facts on the Schizophrenia thing. I was told that, so I'm not sure.

Either way, it doesn't cause schizophrenia in anyone who normally wouldn't develope it.

You know, you sure as hell are describing perfectly what a retard the user is, and not just the plant. Your friend obviously had no self control, unlike many of the weed smokers I know.

Of course you act like a tard and things may be harder to do. But that's only while you're high. So in about 2-3 hours, you'll be fine.

You're so incredibly uneducated in the subject though. You know, those same really smart people you were talking about, did tests that proved Marijuanas non-lethality, no physical addiction, disproved any increased chance of lung cancer or cancer in general, and other great things about it.

It also doesn't make you a vegetable, and I've been around a lot of high people, and been so myself. I don't know what type you've seen people smoking though.

If you wanna talk to stupid, talk to someone with a prescription pain-killer habit!
So many people are high as a kite on sleeping pills or pain-killers they get prescribed by their doctor. Often these are much more addictive, easy to build a tolerance to and can have massive dosage variations when consumed with alcohol. You may see someone quickly lose control and need to take whole packets at a time, necessitating the need to purchase more of the medication from the black market, while they wait for their prescription to become valid again. Not to mention all these prescription medications can be OVERDOSED on.

Marijuana actually has a built in chemistry that makes it impossible to overdose on the active ingredients. It is a chemical called cannabidiol and is currently being researched for it's medical properties for genetic nervous-system diseases among other things. Cannabidiol is in high concentration in Hemp Cannabis, it is the reason smoking Hemp Cannabis will not get you high as it blocks the effects of THC on the nervous system.

It is in smaller concentrations in potent cannabis, but once you consume enough, the chemical will build up, so eventually you will smoke enough that the cannabidiol amount builds up and blocks the THC effect, rendering you sober, perhaps with a headache. This means, you basically cannot smoke so much as to overdose, the cannabidiol kicks in and wipes out all effects. The only way to 'overdose' would be more in the form of suffocation or purely ingesting too much, which can happen with anything, you can die from eating too much fruit or vegetables in the same manner.

Tobacco is the 'true' gateway drug, as someone who falls into the description for a gateway drug, would be taking the drug initially to get intoxicated. When you first start smoking, you get headspins from the nicotine, this would be sought after by someone looking to get intoxicated. However the headspins eventually disappear and you are left with a frustrating nicotine habit. The person who sought to get intoxicated no longer does, and they look for a newer drug, however they are left with a nasty nicotine habit. Couple this with how legally available cigarettes are, and any young child who wishes to get high can get a cigarette and get an intoxicating headspin. If they are caught, it's just a cigarette, 'usually' not seen as bad as alcohol or drugs. But the culture of getting intoxicated has begun, in a few years the child may have a smoking addiction, and will certainly be looking elsewhere to get intoxicated.

Alcohol has been shown to be so strong in its intoxicating effects, that most people do not move on to other drugs, unless they specifically want something 'less intoxicating', ie something that leaves them with more self control.]
