Whats with the Misdirected hate towards smokers?

I'm a smoker, and quite happily too, i often come across people who call me filthy, then i simply rebut with, at least i'm not some pompous old hag with obscene illusions of grandeur (i live in a... less than appealing town).

I was waiting outside a Dominoes Pizza joint, when i looks up and see an older woman and her child walking past on my left, i swap my cigarette to my right hand and blow the smoke away from the pair as they're passing. Whats returned? Thanks for trying? no, "Come on sweetie, lets move around the man poisoning the air". Gobsmacked, i turn around and say, at least you had the decency to call me a man (16 years old at the time)

So. I have a small amount of hate towards these pious Assholes that think they know how to run my life.

Smoking is disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. I don't quite understand what stupid idiot introduced something so terrible into our society. My mom smokes. It's awful. She coughs all the time and my teachers at school were concerned about me because my clothes always smell like smoke until I told them that my mom smokes. I hate it. *Sniff* OK, now my eyes are watering. Smoking's always been a touchy subject. I know what it does to people. It, to me, is a complete disregard for common sense. I'm... concerned, y'know? Millions of people are suffering. Tortured. Having their lives controlled by tobacco. Throwing away thousands of dollars just to satisfy a craving that will, eventually, in some way or another, kill them. There have been many, many people who have lots loved ones to the cigar or cigarette. I just hope that I won't be the next one to lose someone...

Tobacco only controls the Weak. Any smoker can give up, if they have the will power to do so.

I smoke because it calms me more than music, and settles more cravings than you could poke a stick at.

I think it is gross, but I don't care if my friends do it, or anyone else for that matter. It is their life, not mine, but I would never date someone who smokes...

I tried smoking once to see what all the hype was (I'm only 16 btw).

Really didn't see why people are so crazy about them, they just taste of ash.
I don't find smoking attractive, but I wouldn't say that smoking immediately makes you unnattractive; it's the long term effects that are nasty.

If someone I like smokes, then that doesn't put me off, but I'll still try to get them to quit.

There's nothing wrong with 'Big Swamp'! When has 'Big Swamp' done anything bad to us? I think it's an outstanding town that has done nothing but good for the w-HAHAHA! I can't keep a straight face.

I fully agree with you, and we've both been critizised badly in our town. Very conservative and full of assholes who would rather shoot themselves than look at a smoker/hire a guy with long hair.

I wouldnt consider it disgusting or attractive... Both are a bit too extreme opinions if you ask me. I don't smoke cigarettes myself, and I don't hold anything against those who do, quite a few of my close friends smoke them, but I don't like the smell of a room full of cigarette smoke.

Weeelll... I suppose it's a knotty subject (unless you're pragmatic...). I smoke and I personally think it's pretty hot, but I wouldn't do it if the girl I was trying to ensnare didn't... although in the company of friends (most of whom smoke cigars) I'll crack out the monte cristo No. 4s and relax...

I'd be a lot more likely to get in a relationship with a smoker, they tend to be down to earth and not have a pseudo high ground that they preach to people.

Even as a vegetarian, who often gets branded as someone with a fabricated moral high ground, I can't stand these holier than thou non-smokers who bash smoking yet have never given it a go. Yes smoking will shorten your life span, but so will alcohol yet you don't see anybody harranging people who drink because it's going to damage their body.

Hate it. Won't date smokers and generally I avoid building friendships with them. There's something wrong in your head if you voluntarily continue an activity proven to give you cancer. Like riding a motorbike at 70 mph with no helmet except you're dragging those around you along on your death voyage as well.

To expand, neither, Although, more attractive than disgusting. I smoke, so I don't care about the smell and I would prefer to date a smoker, or someone who is cool with it, than quit. Atm, its the latter, tho she has one every now and then.

Seriously alot of hate on this thread. Some people just won't accept, or can't understand, that there are very good reasons to smoke. Just keep sitting on your throne judging us. Prove to me that your a better person than me and I'll listen. Personally, if it wasn't for smoking, I would've probably killed myself by now. Emo? Yeah, i know.

Really? ...Wow.
Anyway, the reason why smoking and alcohol are kept legal are due to the tax and how integrated it is into society nowadays that making it illegal would cause an uproar.
If they were both introduced now, they wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of being legal.

And too much of anything can harm you, too much smoking, might get cancer, too much water can give you Hyponatremia.

I grew up on noir films, where all the super-sexy "bad girls" were smoking their long cigarettes in those cruella deville holders, if that's any explanation.
