When I see a smoker, I pretty much immediately think they're cowards.
Please explain. I don't see the correlation.
I'm really not sure. I think it's because I think all smokers have started smoking because they can't be assed to deal with a problem. Like, drinking your problems away... but smoking to fool themselves that they feel alright.
Please. Do you really know anyone who smokes cigarettes to escape from problems? It does provide temporary relief, but your observation makes it seem like lighting a butt will whisk you away to the land of irresponsibility, where your life will collapse around you because you can't be bothered to deal, so you sit in a dark, lonely room and puff, puff away. That's not cigs mate, that's pot. You got those two mixed up.

You can't smoke or drink your problems away, but wanting a minute to yourself, for yourself, is not cowardice. Everybody needs some sort of release, right? Also, you assume smokers are so stupid that they can actually fool themselves into thinking something. This would be the same as saying all red-heads are stupid, or all three-eyed circus freaks are easily fooled. It doesn't make sense.

Fine, you don't like smoking, but for God's sake, have a better reason instead of insulting the morality and intelligence of smokers. There's plenty of better reasons out there.
Yeah, I started reading your post but when it got to the point where you were pretending to be a good writer by over-dramaticizing metaphors and analogies, I got bored and stopped reading. Truth is, my original point started with "for some reason", implying that I don't actually understand the logic behind it. So just calm down, yeah? You make it out like I have a personal vendeta when in fact I have a lot of friends who are smokers and I never even implied that I have anything against them.

Fair enough. But, you've seen the Back to the Future movies, right? The recurring theme of Marty being called a chicken, or yellow, or a coward or whatever. I use this analogy because it fits with me personally, I don't take being called a coward very well, as I'm sure many others don't, and it was just a stupid generalization in the first place anyways, which has no logic behind it as you've stated. You can't call someone, or in this case a large group of people, cowards without some backlash. Smoking and cowardice have nothing to do with each other, you are wrong, and I am done with this thread.

No hard feelings though, I'm always down for a good argument. Ask my wife.

its depends, are we talking about simply the act of it or the all encompissing aspects of it.

Its kind of like drinking, cheap beer and cheap cigarets dotn have the same nastaliga of a good whine and real cuban cigars.

Both are pointless in doen for image, btu are rather intsing if actully appreciated.

oh please every thing kills you.

The very act of breathing cuases oxidation of cells which also increase the chance of getting cancer. Water increase activity within the body and wear out cells.

basic the very act of living kills you, smoking only help point of who is trying to get out of here faster.

Smoking doesn`t kill you life does. If you live healthy, all the time. No Sugar, No Fat, no smoking, No sex. You don`t live longer, it just seems that way.
You`ll always die of something, some disease or illness, at least smokers know it`s gonna be cancer, you don`t.

I declare shenanigans on you: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shenanigans

"Here's a couple of fun little statistics. Smoking kills more people in Australia than the total number killed by drink, drugs, murder, suicide, road crashes, rail crashes, air crashes, poisoning, drowning, fires, falls, lightning, electrocution, snakes, spiders and sharks. It kills 50 people a day in Australia and 1200 in the USA. Thats half a million a year in the USA alone."

These people would have died anyway, the fact that they died from cancer doesn`t make smoking more dangerous than being in an airplane crash. Read something about statiscics think how you just garbled figures and facts. FOX News style. If you were working for me i`d fire you on the spot.

Every time I hear that one of my friends has tried or started smoking, I lose respect for them. Smoking to be cool and fit in is completely stupid, last time I checked, cancer isn't all that cool.
True, but if you survive it, get to win the Tour The France three times and get Sheryl Crow its pretty cool.

Smoking is not fun, as many others would point out, but it's addictive. This is what I would like to call "Gollum's Scenario", in which we hate smoking, but there are so many people addicted to it, that if we were to take away smoking, there would be riots in the streets (it could happen!). Other than, if I had the choice to totally get rid of the monster called smoking, I would smite it with such epicness that WoWites would celebrate the day of the smiting like an international holiday of pwnage.

Also, I was given asthma from second hand smoking, seeing that everyone in my family except for me smokes.

People who smoke because they think it's cool, are idiots with low self esteem and should start popping prozac.

People who smoke because it feels sooooooo gooooooooood (like me) don't care if you think it's cool or not. I smoke and people who come up to me and tell me that I am a loser for smoking or ask me if I think of myself as cool because I smoke, get smoke in their face.

But to answer your question: no it's not cool. It just feels very very very good.

To quote Bill Hicks (you know.. before he died of lung cancer) "Non-smokers die everyday.... sleep tight!"

I'm a former smoker and every once in a while get the craving, but its really not as bad as it used to be. I also get what people always talk about with the stale smoke smell - something you miss out on as a smoker.

I always tried to be a very courteous smoker and keep my distance from non-smokers. But just like anybody who gets judged for how they act or what they do, I'm about as big a fan of judgemental non-smokers as I am of born-again Christians. I started up because the people I ran around with were all smokers and quitting was one of the hardest things I've ever been through.

No, smoking was pictured as cool back then ,but now that we know the consequences are. So unless you have a coughing fetish, smoking is not good and definitely not cool.
