I'm not so sure I agree with you OP, on the 'terrible' part(except MW2 *shudder*) but still, that doesn't give people the right to be downright assholes about it. Everyone has their own preferences and for some, a ADHD-FPS on a 10 year old engine isn't exactly what they want to play.

So I was talking with my buddies about games during class and they brought up COD, much to my dismay. I immediately said "Ugh I can't stand that game," and left it at that. Well, little did I know that an ever growing shit storm was coming my way. My friends would tell their friends that would tell their friends etc that I hated COD. Now I'm receiving messages and from people listing games from my game history and they're going "Assassin's Creed sucks, The Orange Box sucks, Sid Meier's Pirates sucks" so on and so forth. People call me retarded and lame for not liking it. Am I the one with the problem or does my school need to be purged?
Thus we are forced to conclude that you don't really have any actual friends, and that you need to get the hell out of there as soon as you can and meet some people with at east a tiny bit of perspective on life.

Ok well I'm going to start by being a douche and saying that I don't believe Orange Box sucked, just the Half-Life part of it. Chew on that.

To elaborate in a less jerk off way, I played Half-Life 2 many years after the fact and I can see why it, at the time, would've been viewed in the light which people cast it. Frankly though, it is too linear, too easy, and (my biggest qualm) it was just never ending. The drama and oppression of trying to escape wore off and it feels like the game still expects me to care. Plus the silent protagonist thing, usually kind of annoying in my opinion but would be much better if people didn't right off the bat liken me to Jesus Christ. If I become a badass in my own right, that's fine. But to apparently start out as one, something everybody knows, but with no context bothers me.
Hey, guys?

I just found a commenter here who made a good argument for disliking HL2?

Should we let this one be? I'm confused. I think my mind is collapsing. This shouldn't be possible but it is, after years of whiny retards screaming about how crap it is compared to COD, I finally found it: the forum-goer who can make a good argument for liking COD and a good argument for disliking HL2, and still come off as likable and intelligent.

Maybe there is a god.
Damn it, I've been trying to do that for months (replacing CoD with Halo) and nobody noticed. Why the hell does this guy get the commendation? :p

There are plenty of good arguments as to why one would dislike Half-Life 2. There are plenty of good arguments as to why one would want to dislike pretty much every game ever made (except Homeworld, I will personally crucify anyone who hates on that...). Personally I think it's a solid 6.5/10 (Halo being a 9.0 and CoD being an I've-never-played-any-of-it-so-???).

This thread is funny though, if only because of how utterly incomprehensible it would sound to non-gamers.

"They insulted the orange box? KILL THEM ALL!"

i hate your school now, not only are they all gossipy bitches but they are also working under the assumption that everyone should have the same tastes as them, no matter what. everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that's just common logic!

and incidently im with you, any game that promotes the killing of humans should be banned, and lets not forget that its blaitently a campaign to make people join the army!

You may declare them all retarded, you will always have better tastes than them.

And besides, all you said was that you can't stand it, you didn't slander it or anything.

Anybody who gets that defensive over someone else's opinion on a video game clearly is insecure and quite stupid. I wouldn't even waste your time, honestly.

i didn't bother to read the whole thread, bit can you give me reasons you don't like COD?

Black Ops single player was absolute shit, but the online has always been pretty good if you ask me?

i completely respect your opinion, i have no problem with you not liking it. but it would be nice to know why you dont?

I too find it hard to believe that many people would be that upset about it.

More importantly though, is I've never heard the phrase "needs a good dicking". That a non-American phrase? Sounds like rape...

I can see why the messiah thing will bother you, as it requires background knowledge of HL1 to understand why he's seen as the one free man etc.

Hardcore unreasonable CoD and Halo fanboys are like twillight fangirls, they are plain idiots and if you happen to think the script wasn't much to talk about or the gameplay wasn't your style for some reason or another, they come down on you like a ton of bricks.

You don't have a right to slag something else off for no good reason, but you do have a right to not like it and if people don't like that, stuff them.

I'll gladly say Halo's plot was shit to me and the CoD series is fun, but by no means the be all and end all of all things gaming, i@ve played much more momorable and fun games, and guess what, I couldn't give a monkies what anyone else thinks. I suggest you think the same way, nobody owns you and nobody can tell you what to like and not like.

The thing is, CoD is technically enjoyable, but it's the blandest, doing-absolutely-nothing-new sort of game I've ever seen; another brownish-gray shooter where you shoot at terrorist insurgents and/or Russians in various industrial structures. How revolutionary. I prefer games that will actually be worth remembering a few years on, and objectively, The Orange Box > CoD.

On a related note, my friend's brother, quite a CoD enthusiast (who is doing nothing to help the stereotype of the whiny, screaming 8-year-old Xbox Live player who believes that anyone better than him is a cheating homosexual), wrote off Half-Life 2 as 'boring' and 'stupid' about five minutes in.

Lets just put it this way, there's a reason that Call of Duty is popular, and that reason is not that everyone in the world besides you is a dumbass.

I really don't think that there's anything wrong with not liking the call of duty franchise, but when you're going to say that such a popular game is terrible, you really need to back it up with a somewhat informed opinion on the matter. This is something that you did not do, so more than anything else, it would sound like trolling to fans of the game, and in that case, they would be in their rights to shun you.
I have decided to not even bother giving an informed opinion on anything against these people, debating with them is like playing checkers with a 5 year old, they like to change the rules whenever and no matter what, they win.
With that attitude, it sounds a bit like you would be happy if they shunned you.

To be fair, if everyone who is talking about CoD (who probably love the game) are having a conversation about it, then someone says they can't stand it, it's probably going to sound like your trolling, especially if you don't bring up a good balanced reason, while this isn't one of them, if I disagree with the general consenus on something, I tend to keep it to myself to avoid confrontation

For example, I have a very controversial view on how the public view the soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, but I keep it to myself since it's not what people want to hear

If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
WHy should you not have the right to express yourself because some other person things they have more rights than you? If I don't like something and someone asks me why, I'll damn well explain why, if you don't like it, take a hike. See my friends and family accept my veiws even if they don't agree to it, and I accept thiers, we all have different likes and dislikes and different personalities, but if I think Twillight is a pile of "&£^"^^£* than that's exactly what I'm going to say it is and I have my reasons to justify that. Obviously to those who like it, my reasons will never be enough, it's like hyperthetically saying I don't like sports games because I find them boring, I find them boring being the central hint, I don't really need to explain in detail why I find them boring, I just do.

Plenty of people hate what I watch, listen to, play, eat etc etc, I couldn't care less.

Look at it like this : it gives you an excuse to start hanging out with girls
This. Girls are pretty too:)

90% of COD players are stupid fucks who don't deserve 5 seconds of the world's concentration so I don't see why you should be bothered, your freinds are assholes and you should go find a girl you know and start hanging around with her and if things go smoothly you should have some nice girls to talk with who probably can't tell the difference between COD and halo anyway.
