It seems kind of ridiculous to me. I mean, if you want to make a half black half hispanic minority character, why don't you just make him up some powers and create an all new character, instead of trying making a character that piggy backs on the fame of an established hero? It's almost like they think that no one would care enough about a new original character if he was a minority so they decided to turn him into one of the already established characters for the built in recognition.

Whatever though, I don't really care considering it's the Ultimate Universe, and the ultimate universe isn't the main continuity. If this was in the main continuity though it would piss me right off.

At this point I don't really care. Modern society and political correctness has ruined nearly everything else, it was only a matter of time until they screwed up comics.

It'll always look the same person in the suit, unless they're fat or a woman, or both.

All of which would be interesting to see, for very different reasons.

Edit: Didn't they do this with Nick Fury as well? I don't remember too many people complaining about that.
Because it was Samuel L. Jackson, with "Bad ************" written under his eyepatch.

OT: I don't actually care about this shtick, but I DO say it's far too early for reboots.

Nothing wrong with superheroes of all races but honestly, why do they do this?

They take pre-existing heroes and change their ethnicity. They did it with the Green Lantern, and sure it didn't take away from the action, but you don't have to change a character just to fit diversity. Just make some new ones of different races.

It's not wrong, it's just not canonical.
Actually the original green lantern (the one the movie is basically based on) was white. John Stewart was the second green lantern, the one you're referring to. Two different dimensional green lanterns.
I know that. That's what I was saying. They added a black Green Lantern to the Justice League so it wouldnt seem like the Aryan League I guess...

Don't care about the race thing. The thing that struck me is that spider-man is dead. All I know about Spider-man comes from the 90s animated series and the movies, so I don't really follow the comic book side of things, but it seems kind of radical to kill Peter Parker.

The right perspective is: who cares?
Seriously, its comic books we are talking about. There is no grand scheme or narrative prepared for this new character, and they will replace him with a resurrected Peter Parker as soon as they see it doesn't improve sales or when the series changes the writer. This is an industry built around the "throw shit at the wall and see what sticks" motto...
To worry about this is like believing the death of Batman or Captain America, or the marriage of Superman or Spiderman were some serious event (or even durable, character defining)

Well apparently radioactive spider bites aren't as rare as they used to be. I don't have a problem with him not being white but I don't really like seeing characters die either.

Not that radical. It's the Ultimate universe. This is what people are misunderstanding. Superheroes die in the Ultimate universe all the damn time. This isn't regular Spiderman canon. Hell, they already killed Peter Parker for a while in regular Spiderman canon. It's completely commonplace.

Seems interesting, but I wonder how theyll explain how he got his powers. I hope its not " and it turns out we had another radioactive spider all along". Or does he have super powers at all? Maybe he just has a length of rope and mad Parkour skills.

Did they make Peter Parker black? No.

So... no problem. Its not like he bounded in one day with a new fucking skin tone out-of-the-blue. Its a different person.

I will criticise the writers for coming out and saying "hey, look! A black guy!" though. They should have just revealed him, and told everyone who has a problem with it to shut the fuck up.

This sounds like the same thign as the thor "controversy".

Now, if Marvel did kill of peter parker JUST to bring ina black peter parker, that is wrong. just cause I know what they're trying to do, and you're not doing it.

*points to MovieBob's The Big Picture about a Norse God in Thor played by a black guy* That, pretty much. There are barely any big name comic heroes that are anything but caucasian white, Nick Cage nonwithstanding maybe. I don't recall people being that angry about Nick Fury being suddenly black in the new Marvel movies. And honestly, if they manage to bring a bit variety to the otherwise pretty much whites only big league of superheroes (Martian Manhunter and Hulk being green doesn't count), I'm all for it. It's only the Ultimates Universe after all anyways.
