this seems like a cheap attempt to make things more multicultural or something like that and score some of that hip diversity dollar

No, seriously, who gives a shit?
You'd be amazed, not only by how many people care, but how much they care as well. Of course, a lot of the negative comments are less about the character itself, and more about ludicrous fears that white people are somehow being marginalised in favour of minority groups. It's the same kind of problem that people had over the casting of Idris Elba as Heimdall in Thor.

I am not bothered really about the change in race just rather the change in character, I mean spiderman is peter parker, it was a genetic accident that created him and there for he is spider man.
Now for example if they changed captain America, he is just super soldier that could potentially be recreated thus it would be acceptable to have a replacement, or Iron man is the same it is a suit with a user it does not need to be Tony stark. Changing peter parker is a bit odd because spidey was created through coincidence not manufactured. If spidey died then just replace the hero with a new one who wants to follow on his vigilante legacy, do not make a spidey Mk2 if they had done this no one would have batted an eyelid.

I´m not against it. He´s not even Peter Parker! He´s an entirely new character who is wearing spidey´s pajamas while Parker is dead (how long do you think that´s gonna last?). If the character is fun to read, i say go for it! The Ultimate line´s purpose is not only to update characters´ origins, but also to try new bold storytelling possibilities that wouldnt fly in the regular universe. I´m okay with this new character! When Parker eventually comes back, we might have TWO cool spider-men, eh?

Yeah, we white people have it really hard.
But.. why. It just doesn't make sense to me at all. Raging about something like this has got to be the biggest waste of time in the history of mankind. And that's saying a lot.

Well... his name definitely sounds half black/Hispanic.

I've always liked spider-man had many of his comics as a kid but, following 40+ years of back story is daunting. I can see why they wanna switch to someone else.

As long as he's a nerd/lovable loser it works.

I welcome the change since I feel this will please some people who wanted that actor to play the role as Peter Parker/ Spiderman in the film in first place (was it Donald Glover? Since I've forgot.)

The answer to that question goes way beyond comics and into all kinds of sticky race issue questions. MovieBob has a couple of interesting videos about it in his "Big Picture" series that are certainly worth a watch.

Do you mean actual political correctness, which is an effort to create a more inclusive society, or straw man political correctness that is wheeled out whenever someone gets in trouble for making some sort of poorly thought out comment about another gender or race?

Marvel is still making Spider Man comics?

Actually I don't really care if a super hero is half black and half hispanic. What gets me worried is that the original spider man died and Marvel felt the need to continue the whole Spider Man franchise by instead replacing him with a more "diversified" character. I hope this isn't just some attempt by Marvel to make themselves seem more diversified.

The new Spider Man better have some good back story as to how he takes the place of Peter Parker.

It's just really funny. You know a culture's messed up when one group is so completely used to being pandered to, that any attempts to pander to someone else for a change elicits this many complaints of being cheap and money-grabbing. As opposed to every single other decision Marvel ever makes, of course.

There's also a lot of people asking what these kind of details "adds to the character". Y'know, because the default human is white, male, straight, and cissexual, and irregularities like being female, or being mixed race, or being anything other than straight are additional character traits that should be used sparingly, and only when you're building the entire character around them.

I also love the amount of people immediately assuming that they killed off Peter Parker just so they could replace him with a more diverse character. You know, because long running characters never get killed off in comic books. This is a completely unprecedented plot twist in the Ultimate universe, a plot twist so bizarre that it can only be explained by Marvel suddenly being overcome by a desire to pander to those greedy minorities, even if it means sacrificing one of the rare few straight white male superheroes to do so. Obviously.

Ugh.

I mean all political correctness I've yet to see a worthwhile use for it in any society except to stamp out free thought.
There are so many things in this world that are horrible yet we concentrate on what might offend people...yet could careless half the time about whats actually killing them or truely segregating them instead we worry about if their feelings are hurt instead of their actual liberties and freedoms.

Oh, OK, so you did mean the ridiculous strawman version of political correctness. I appreciate that we were able to clear this so easily. Thanks! This was nice.

It's probably just going to be the same shit. Identical moral lessons and all that, so why even care? One of his relatives will die, he'll have to save his girlfriend or something, he'll learn the whole power/responsibility lesson, etc. In my opinion, people should just get over it.
EDIT: I don't mean "shit" as in something bad, just as a substitute for "stuff" to better convey how I feel about people getting butt-hurt over the whole thing.
