3D Sonic game just doesn't work period, but I have to be honest; I thought Sonic and The Secret Rings was just a okay game.
It hasn't worked YET, and Secret Rings had so many problems. It could have been OKAY if the controls weren't so god awful, but we'll see about sonic and the black knight, if it keeps the look of secret rings, drops the controls, and mission based system. We might have a decent game.

interesting take on it, it's just I hate a game that basically plays itself for you, and the jump mechanics also blew to high hell. Story?...Ugh!

That is a popular theory, but we know sonic is going to be around regardless for the next, oh lets say... ten years AT LEAST. I'm just trying to find a way for him to not be torturing us during that time.
Ten years? No way he's got another decade in him. Maybe 5, at best.
The interview with Yuji Naka from Sonic Team says they're trying to keep him around for another 50, to 100, years! I'm just trying to meet them 1/5 of the way there.

Humans. Remove them. Back to mobius please.

Robotnik, not eggman. (I don't care what the Japanese find funny, to us it's just lame)

SOME PROPER HUMOR! Like for instance. Sonic Heroes. When you leave the characters alone they say stupid one liners that just arent funny in the least. Can we maybe have some subtle disney-esque pop culture jokes in it's stead?

Fire Sonic Team's writing staff and replace with room of monkeys. No this isn't a joke.

Open world? No. It won't work.

Get rid of plain uncontrollable speed and replace with the old 'momentum' system.
Old style badniks please. These new 'mecha-type' robots are snores-ville

Frankly I just want the old sonic 'charm' back again, none of this half-assed badassedry mixed with 'pander to children' writing and lameness...I mean come ON.
APPEAL TO SOMEONE.

I agree with most of what you say, It's just when playing a game like sonic 2006 or looking at SBK, while the level is going you can see vast green fields stretching as far as the eye can see, and whenever I try to jump off my track to go over there, that invisible wall/ or bottomless pit tell me to go screw myself. Think of a Shadow of Colossus world where you're Sonic and you can run as fast and as far as you want! That's one of the open world types of gameplay I would like to try!

GRADES. REMOVE THEM. No one wants to feel BAD for finishing a level Sega, what the flying eff is wrong with you!?
My little brother cried in a level when he got an E...CRIED. And he's 5! I thought that age group was who you were appealing to!?

Sonic. Tails. Knuckles. Robotnik. Thats, it. Thats all you need.

Levels less about story and more about mindless travel fun. Thats what sonic was all about, he doesn't need a reason to traverse every area of a place, he just does. He's like Mario. They /could/ both walk up to the castle/fortress of doom, super quick and end the game in a flick of the finger but wheres the fun in that? The games are originally about Robotnik or Bowser greifing the living hell out of them both by setting up traps every where.

I could go on for pages, about whats wrong with this franchise but does Sonic team care? Psh no. So really this is just a nice long rant on my part.

The Sonic Rush series proved that 2.5D platforming still works great for the series, but apparently those don't exist just because they're on a handheld. As for a console, the answer is almost as simple: There's TOO MUCH SPEED. If the fans could just stop whining about there not being enough SPEED in the 3D games, they might realize that the levels in the Genesis days (the later levels in each game) weren't especially fast-paced, it was more about precision than getting through as quickly as possible. But no, the audience demands "MORE SPEED," so we get these ridiculously linear levels that are either pathetically easy or artificially difficult. Breakneck speed simply doesn't work in 3D platforming, but people have seem to forgotten that breakneck speed isn't what the original Sonic series was actually about.

As for too many characters, I think the problem can be solved even more easily: Have the other characters' missions be optional side quests, not necessary for the completion of the story. Same with story, so long as they make the cutscenes skippable I could care less if they shove one in or not, so long as it's an excuse for good gameplay.

Oh, and by the way, the poll should include this question as well:

For the umpteenth time, neither of those names were ever canon. Eggman has ALWAYS been called Eggman in Japan. And there's no going "back" to Mobius because there was never any "Mobius" in the games, the only time they ever called anything "Mobius" was in the American-made cartoon shows.
true, but sonic's home was always called South Island since the original game. and one could assume that there are no humans because, Robotnik (and I know you perfer Eggman) had probably wiped them all out. If anything sonic does follow one of the cartoons perfectly, Sonic X, and you don't like Sonic X do you? Point being, Mobius is just the name most Sonic fans are familiar with.

I was stuck between three and four, but ultimately chose four. The only 'human' who should be existing is Robotnik. (Although he's not even human, has human form.)
True, in Sonic and Knuckles, I believe Sonic actually killed Robotnik. I beat it with all the chaos emeralds, and if you think about it, a human would have a hard time surviving a fight suit explosion in space, but after the credits you see one of those bird-bots that look like him arise from a pile of rubble. The new Robotnik is just a robot programmed with the memories of the original Robotnik.

I MISS THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS!!! (CRYS)

But seriously, whatever happened to the freedom fighters? They were just awesome in SatAM and the comics, so why wouldn't they be awesome in the games.

To OP: Why are you trying to do something about it? Leave your fanboy rage out of it. I noticed that the only option you put up there which has anything to do with gameplay (which was what you were griping about in the first place) is the sudden reverse-evolution of 2D. How can changing the character set affect level design?
I know that in Sonic 2006, just listening to Silver babble made me want to do what you're avatar is doing right now! Changing characters does help the game, do you want another Emo the Hedgehog gun-toting mediocre crap-factory, that is supposed to pander to older crowds since he says "Damn" everytime he steps on a thumbtack? I don't, that's just weak.

Sadly, the only game ALL the Freedom Fighters appeared in was Sonic Spinball. I know, it is sad...

I would carry along the secret rings style into other games. It seems the 'purist' that sonic games in 3D have been in a while.

It focuses on speed, and what made the game good in the first place, whilst cutting back on the massive amount of superfluous characters that exist in the sonic universe at the moment.

If I made a game, I would have the Freedom Fighters. Playing a half mechanized rabbit wouldn't be that bad would it?

i'll say: Stick to 2d, but i think you should include an "All of the above" option
I take it most everyone wants 2D, so that's a gimme. All of the above would be too lazy on my part, I want you to think, besides 2D, of what's been pissing you off about Sonic games the most?

that fact that despite everything they're still managing to get these games out on the shelves and people are still buying them?
i hated the new sonic before it was fashionable!

they keep adding new friends for him, pretty much all of which have been horrible, with the possible exception of shadow, until they gave him his own game and castrated him.
the addition of gimmicks to the games so they can seel (were-hog thing, sonic heroes team-of-3 idea, full 3d etc)

Sonic's face sells! That is the cold hard truth of the matter. Sonic Unleashed sold about a million copies in it's first month! I rest my case...
