I think if you have no interest in Sonic Games to begin with you shouldn't suggest what to do to improve them.

Just saying, kinda silly if you don't care to begin with.

I'm one of the few people who enjoys Sonic in 3D, at least in theory. The problem is that Sonic Team sucks at programming both controls and proper in-game camera angles, but given to a more talented team with a larger budget and more time, I think they could really make a great 3D title. I actually chose an open-world design in the poll, because I think there is a lot of potential for large, freeform platform gameplay in the series. I wouldn't go for an entirely open world design, but something along the lines of Super Mario 64 could work wonderfully. The 2D games, especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles, do a superb job of providing branching pathways and exploration elements, and that's something that could easily be exploited. The biggest problem with the new games, I think, is that they emphasise speed over everything else, turning into, at best, on-rails platform games, when in actual fact the earlier games in the series had much in the way of precision movement and weren't at all about blinding speed - Sonic is faster than Mario, sure, but he's not a fucking F22.

No, I love sonic games. I just don't like how they continually butcher each one. Have you played Sonic 2006? Sega might as well have kicked me in the balls for 30 dollars, at least that would have been less painful.

Sonic is able to break the sound barrier on occasion, ya'know.

I don't care. Save it for a cutscene or a scripted gameplay element, where it's cool instead of stupid and impossible to control.

Yes and Unleashed was a step up from that. If Unleashed had cut out the crap story, replaced it with OH NO SONIC STOP DR ROBOTNICK FOR NO REASON, ditched the werehog, removed the lives system and making falling to your death more like falling in mario kart (seriously, it's not "hardcore" if the only way to beat levels is memorization rather then skill) then the game would have been a shiney star.

I think this next Sonic Sword game is a Wii exclusive last time I checked which means I'm going to be skipping over it anyway as it's just a gimmick but hopefully in the future we see more of the Day Levels of Sonic Unleashed. Some of the bonus missions in Sonic Unleashed are tough as hell too, not a bad thing and I hope to see more of that from the Sonic Team.

Sorry? Did you play Sonic Unleashed? The first couple day levels are perfect. You feel like your going stupid fast and it's completely controllable. Yeah... gonna just skip over your posts as you have no idea what the Sonic games in the future need and it's the fans like you who confuse developers into making Werehogs.

Let's change Eggman back to Robotnik, stick to more 2D gameplay (but some 3D, think Sonic Unleashed w/ Werehog or open-world), make the player earn Super Sonic and, finally, stick to the old cast of characters. Sonic 3 and before characters are fine. As are some of the characters from the 2 cartoons from back '93.

No, I didn't play it. I got the impression it was basically a turd, and I don't have money to blow on turd games. I also don't have an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, and I wasn't about to get the gimped Wii version.

Curiously, the Wii games have been the best in the series in the last few years, but they're more or less on rails themselves (you just choose when to jump and in what direction). Maybe it's you who has the strange opinion.

Bought it and beat it the day it came out. It took a couple of tries, but after you got the feel for the controls it was actually pretty easy to get past those daytime stages, the boost put sonic at the speed of 300mph too.

Poor little hedgehog with the world against him...he is SO SCREWED! But for those of us who grew up with this icon, it's so hard to see him put down so much.

Every time I see a thread like this, I prepare myself to see " Sonic should always be 2D ".
No, Wrong, Sonic took a correct turn when the developers made him 3D.
If Sonic stayed the way it did when it first came out.. Would you buy it? No, Because it would the same old boring shit over and over.
A game needs to evolve to fit in, I agree not everything that the dev's have done to sonic is good, like the were hog ( But talking of that, it was bearable it isn't as bad as everyone says it is.) And now, A sword? Meh.
I think they should of kept the story like the old 2D games but just made it look prettier and MAYBE add some cool stuff you can do as sonic, and keep all of his old enemies and friends.

Lol bit awkward huh XD

Yeah if a developer and a team of like minded individuals that actually had a passion to make a difference, then Sonic 3d would be good.

At the moment, it needs its kneecaps broken :)
