You do realize there not to blame? We are, enough people will buy this to make them do it again in the future.

It makes business sense to hike up the price (although, it doesn't seem like a vast amount) on a product they know is going to be popular, the only way to stop them is to get everybody to wait a few months, till they drop the price, to buy it.

That will never happen 'cos we want everything yesterday, so people who loved the first one will camp outside game retailers at midnight waiting for the doors to open to be the first to play it.

They could charge $100 for the basic version and $200 for the limited edition and people would still buy it, granted less would do so.

Everything's worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. I'm not a collector nor do I consider SC II important enough to spend $100 so the CE is out of the picture for me. I'm not happy about paying $60 for a game that they haven't even finished completely (at least as far as the campaign is concerned), but I also realize that I will most likely get far more enjoyment out of that incomplete game than I would out of many other "complete" games that go on the market. Also, I think Blizzard assumes correctly that anyone who buys the CE is a fairly hardcore fan and plays WOW anyway, so why not throw them a bone? Doesn't cost them anything more...

Yeah, if anyone actually thinks I'm going to pay 100 dollars for such a rip-off, they're wrong.

USBdrive: 9.99, +5$ for the original SC+exp in a used games sales bin.

WoW-content: useless.

Going with movie tiecket prices (10$ for a ~2h movie), the 'behind-the-scenes' is worth around 6$. Not counting the fact that those cutscences will be in the game itself.

Battle.net DLC: If a skinpack and a few profiles pics is all that's in this, then it's useless. At most worth a dollar or two.

Soundtrack: okay, this might be the only actual item of worth (in addition to the 2GB drive) in this package. 10$, as per single-CD average music CD price at the nearest two supermarkets.

So yeah....half a movie ticket, extra USB-drive and a music CD.... disappointment galore.

Come to think of it, if the Terran campaing really isn't a full game's lenght, it remains to be seen if I'll be bying that one either. I will not be paying 60 dollars for something <10-15h of gameplay + MP, no matter the title.

Diablo II and WarCraft III were both $60 at release and both came out well before the activision merger.

I may get it only for these 2 things, because I'm petty and want to stand out in games because I secretly desire to be a unique snowflake.

Interested in who's making the USB thing- some still pitch for 70-80 bucks these days. Reasonably it'll be around 10 bucks though.

Buying SC / BW in the battle chest costs 20 bucks. The price also guarantees your CD key isn't being used by some novel little bot as well.

The art book? 10-15-20 bucks or so, depending on just how obscure the art gets.

DVD? Probably about six bucks, lets call it a discount movie.

Sound track? reasonably 20 bucks for a new album at release. This is reasonable.

WoW pet? Ok, lets suppose you had to buy it outright. At most it'd be from 5 to 10 bucks. If that.

Yeah. I'm buying the CE. Then again, I also actually want everything that's in it.

"baaaawww but its only going to be (x) hours of single player and multi-player!"

Well, honestly ask yourself how much time you spent on B.net for D2, SC, or WC3 if you played any of them. If you're like me you spent quite a bit of time on them. In fact, by rough estimates I'd have paid for three games in the span that WC3 lasted me. Just a thought.

"baaawww but it's only 1/3rd of the game!"

Shut up. No, really. If you've ever paid for multiple games for a game that was effectively divided on the context of progressing the story, shut up. You're getting the story Blizzard wants to tell. If that really bothers you that much don't buy the game, or wait till it drops in price. I for one would rather see the story Blizzard wants to tell rather than the one that gets hacked down to fit into three races.

Oh, and there's a bonus campaign for the brotoss. I'd get off your soap box.

"baaaawwww Blizzard isn't the company I once knew!"

Well it is a faceless corporation to begin with. Just a thought, but really, Blizzard isn't the first company to do this, and reasonably they're trying to target as broad an audience as possible. Adding in extra gimmis like WoW pets is them merely casting a wide net- many WoW players are in the SC2 beta anyways.

In Canada the normal version is $70, what's the deal?
For those of you who don't know, 1 CAD = 0.998454 USD

Or rather, 60.00 USD = 60.0929 CAD

Fuck you Blizzard. Also, fuck you Activsion for your high price points.
Didn't they get the memo that most PC games are $50 dollars? And they want me to fork over fucking SEVENTY for the base package?

I don't get what's wrong. Looks like what they offer is worth far more than the price difference between regular and CE, and they're trying their best to cover their bases. I hate it when a CE only has an art book, because I don't care about art books. Same with soundtracks. But the USB drive that contains Starcraft and Brood Wars is a cool score, I'd be interested enough to look through the comic book, and I don't have a WOW account, but I still think that some exclusive content is a nice touch. Is the in-game pet really such a huge deal? Is it so powerful that it breaks the game for anybody who doesn't have it? I doubt it; I see it as basically along the same lines as Achievements and Trophies. It's just something to show that you were one of the people that bought the SC2:CE. Hell, take a look at what Pokemon has been doing with some of their Legendaries and tell me that this is so bad.

God I don't even know where to start with this. The prices were already broken down in another post quite well, so I won't repeat it.

People seem to forget how long the campaign is. It's almost 30 missions. THIRTY. That's as long as all three campaigns in the first combined, and longer than all of Brood War. It also has side stuff you can do on the ship out of mission, and some branching tech choices for replayability. This is a BIG game we are getting. More than enough content. I wish it was all one game too, but frankly this is enough content to be worth paying for. And I really doubt the expansions will be full priced. Unless they add more stuff to multiplayer, you can still play with everyone who bought the expansions. If not, then I have no doubts the Wings of Liberty servers will still have people playing.

You are WAY over reacting. If you don't want it, don't buy it. I know I for one will buy it unless I'm having serious financial trouble.

canada always gets the shaft in that regard. Our economy is designed for the dollar to be less valuable then the US. Whenever it reaches Par or god forbid, higher, we get fucked.

No , that's how the game retail will look . You looked the Blizzcon information? You will need to be 100% online even for single player . Check it out if you haven't.
Bzzzt. Sorry, you are the weakest link. Goodbye.

You can play singleplayer offline, you just won't get the goodies like achievements, decals, stat tracking, friends lists, etc - just like Steam.

Warcraft III [http://web.archive.org/web/20010204015800/www.blizzard.com/press/000717.shtml].

Both of these were made well before WoW, well before the Activision acquisition. Blizzard pricing its games at $60 is not a new concept.

You're forgetting the artbook, man! 176 pages of concept art, almost certainly hardcover. That's a huge buy in itself.

The bold part: Seriously ? You are bribing WOW gamers to buy Ce. How does that even make sense , Blizzard . What's happened to my favorite gaming company?
(Hums, another one Bites The Dust)

Dude, Blizzard was like that ages ago. Come up from that rock buddy! I kid. [sub]Kinda...[/sub]

OT: Its 200 for NZ and Au people. I converted it and the exact calculation was 110... so basically WHAT THE HELL IS THE EXTRA 90 DOLLARS?

It may be a rip but I'll buy it. If I can afford...

The CE looks about fine to me, but I'll most definitely pass on it. If I do buy it (which I will most likely do, I'm in the beta thanks to a friend and I'm loving to get my protoss ass kicked. God, do I suck at it) I'll get the normal edition.
As for the normal edition price, well, it all depends on how long and well done the Terran campaing is, really, and we can't know that until it's released, so, I think we should wait before making a judgement.

I swear, gamers are the most bitchy, whiny and completely self-righteous lot out there. God could descend from heaven and create a game which opens a portal to eternal bliss and happiness, and gamers would complain about it. Somehow they would find a way!

It doesn't help that the most vocal of the lot also tend to be the ones who do the least research and know the least about what they're complaining about. But then I guess that's always the way it goes for any medium.

Of course if you don't like it then the option is always open to simply not buy it, you know, this being a *game* and all, a completely trivial and pointless means of entertainment which shall ultimately have absolutely no impact on the grand scheme of things. Not purchasing it wouldn't affect your life in any conceivable way, and indeed, would make no difference whatsoever. So why is it such a big deal?

it looks like stuff for die hard fans of terran. I only hope that the USB drive is better than the one EA had for The Sims 3 CE (thing just splits in half)

If the future collectors editions come out and are similar, i will probably only go for the protoss. IF it contains similar things to this, protoss related. How epic would it be to plug a pylon into your computer?

looking at this, maybe it is a little expensive. better start putting some money aside for even the normal game :(

I'd buy it for the USB thing. That'd be a collector's item something like 20 years after the game comes out. I wonder what the Zerg and Protoss versions would look like...
