If its used as an insult, or too enphasise an insult, E.g. Fuck off shithead, You Fucking Wanker etc. then I don't like the idea... but I don't like insults in any shape or form, cursing or no cursing.

But if someone says it as a noun or verb then by all means. E.g I'd fuck her, I just took a shit etc.

One thing that gets on my nerves though is when people say cuss instead of curse.
Curse is not a curse word... and the people who use cuss instead are usually people who say it from its use on the internet, and have no problem saying it in person.

Sorry bout that last little off-topic rant.
And sorry if my examples of cursing offended anyone because I know there will be people here who are offended by cursing.

I don't like it when people swear as a substitute for actual coherent speech. I have no problem with someone stubbing their toe and going Fuck!, or getting dumped and going C***!. Mainly because I think that if people go around swearing every second word it destroys any severity associated with the word, and when something bad happens what do we have to use instead? Gun violence? Sword fighting? Mass Suicide? Frankly I would rather leave something safe to use for our 'innappropriate outlash' than something worse.[small][sub]And yes, I do tend to exaggerate my examples[/sub][/small]

I feel sorry for anyone who says "Swearing doesn't bother me" or "I swear all the time. So what?" Swearing is something I think people should be more careful about, not because it might offend someone though. To me, that's a separate issue. It is often said that they are "just words" and have no power or that they only have as much power as you give them. It's plain this is just an excuse to swear as often as one would like in defiance of whatever morals have been established.

That's just idiotic. These words do have power. They need to have power, otherwise they have no purpose. The more you use them, the less power they have. This power is simply release. Use them to blow off steam. When you're at the boiling point, hiss one under your breath and let it go. That's what they're for. Don't waste them every time you get the chance.

What happens when that power is gone? What if you insert an f-bomb between every other word? Where will that word be when you really need it? Passed out drunk and not doing its job, that's where. And where does that get you? Anger issues. You have to seek other forms of release powerful enough to replace the words you've wasted. Punching a wall for example, or your girlfriend.

Like all seeming arbitrary rules imposed by the religious prudes, not swearing is just another way to keep your sanity intact.

My reflection about "bad words" was best described by George Carlin; who says that there are no bad words, but it is the context that makes them good or bad. Why would one word be considered bad? Because of it's meaning? I do not use something that might be concidered a bad word in public places such as in class. Mainly out of the possibility of getting expelled from class, but less because it is considered "not apropriate". So, in conclusion, swearing is OK in my book because it is a form of expression, but I wouldn't overdo it.

But I rarely use such words to insult another person, because if someone is wrong, I usualy have arguments on my side, not "bad" words.

How could that guy not get fired? I bet he was a Mormon. I have a mormon friend and he goes crazy whenever anyone swears around him.

The only people who have problem with swear words are people I wouldn't talk to in the first place.

If they get hung up over a word, which is only as offensive as they perceive it, then I doubt I could have any sort of intellectual conversation with them, nor would I want to.

its easy to be far more offensive without the use of swearing. some people simply find it necesary to use bad language as a form of punctuation. im not against swearing given the correct context and protecting our children from 'words' is utterly moronic. i just wish people would accept that these words are simply words.. like any other - they have a place in our language and correct usage. people shocked and disgusted by bad words bug me about as much as people who feel the need to drop a fuck or shit in every sentance for no real reason.

That 911 Operator was a hypocrite and a jerk.

There are only 2 words that really bother me, and I'm not going to say them. I really don't care if someone swears, it's just when it gets excessive like in Kevin Smith/Judd Apatow movies. Oh, not that it offends me, it just gets boring. I get it, I know you can say the f word so start writing actual dialogue.

I have trouble taking a person who cusses all the time seriously. It shows me both a lack of respect for others, control, and either an inability to actually use our language or a care to do so. There may be instances where a word slips and I don't mind that as much. But, the way I hear it today...no, yes I have a problem with it.

Well, my dad is a sailor. My dad's dad was a sailor, and my mom's dad is a factory manager who used to work on a Ford assembly line (you know, back when cars weren't made by chinese laborers.) so I'll let you figure that one out.

I swear all the time. But there are some places where it becomes unnecessary. Such as in formal speech or discussion. I mostly just swear in casual settings though I've been prone to swear a hell of a lot more when agitated.

Excessive swearing is annoying but just plain old swearing is fine.

Movie Soldier Swearing? Give me more!

Real Life Excessive Swearing? Just stop... swearing isn't going to prove your argument valid.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, BUT YOUR FUCKING WORDS WILL NEVER HURT ME YOU GOD DAMN ****!

but i digress. Honestly, I think all that people get offended at with cursing is the "sting" of the words. However, that same sting can be put in anything. If i called you a dumb as dirt piece of cow turd, even though i didnt "swear" i still said something pretty damn offensive, if just a little bit silly.

Also, here's a quote from the back of a Mindless Self Indulgence CD: "It's the suppression of the word that gives it the power, the violence, and the viciousness." - Lenny Bruce.

I dont care about swearing. I do it alot too, to the point where it jsut slips out in conversation, weather that conversation be held with a friend, a teacher, or even my parents...i've had my fair share of detentions because of this.

Don't fucking judge me.
