I like tattoos. Not sure if I'd get one myself but some of them are beautiful, and if they're bad they're great for a laugh.

I have a mate who has several aperture tattoo artists as friends, and he allows them to test out most of their designs on him. Some of them are cool, such as this weird eye monster on his arm and some of them are awful, like 4 black blocks he has on his wrist. The dude doesn't seem to care though. I like that attitude.

I find that certain tatoos are accpetable, like small ones on the shoulder or on the ankle ( areas generally hidden by clothes), like my dad has an air force tatoo on his shoulder and a 4 leaf clover/tribal design on his back(small tattoo). but I find the ones that covers arms and go on faces are just groteque and unneccessry, unless it's a hot chick....

I find it depends partially on what the tatoo means to you. Since getting a tatoo is for the most part permanent you better want to have that tatoo 20 or 30 years from now cus it's still gonna be there like it or not. Some tatooes look just plain stupid because somebody thought it would make them look cool or something but it only really works in a certain situation. I mean some tats are pretty clever but the jokes are only funny for a little bit then you start regreting having it done. I realized that for some people their tatoo(es) signify something very important to them and I totally respect that. I might everntually get a tatoo, but only if I KNOW that it'll look good whatever my age and that I'll never regret getting it.

I don't want one, but you can get one. As long as it's not a joke because no joke has stayed funny for decades.

I think tattoos of things look dumb. For example, characters, people, animals ect. But I think the "tribal" tattoos or whatever they're called where they're just designs or insignias look badass. Stuff like this.

Fuckin' awesome.

I've never wanted one. I better things on which to spend my money. I've seen some that look expensive, but I've never seen any that I think look good. It's a personal thing. I just don't care for them.

I think tattoos are (generally) awesome. Like that pic of the guy with a full sleeve in the original post - I think that actually looks really cool. I'd love to have sleeves - the only things preventing me are lack of money, and possibly pain (I have no tats at the moment, and have no idea how it feels to get one and how well I can deal with it. I would like to get a small one sometime to see what it's like).

But, yeah - they can be ridiculous, like Mr. Cool Ice.

I would get one if I could be sure if A)I would forever like it B)It was cool and I had the money and if there was a possible way to remove it (with out making it worse or scaring not to mention the pain)

personally, i dont hate hate them, if they are meaningul, a cool quote, or the likes then sure, dont mind it, but i fucking fucking fucking fucking HATE when girls get those dumbass colored tattoos, usually it looks extremely dumb and stupid as it sounds i wont date a girl with a dumbass tattoo, and i agree with some people the dumbass flaming skull and dumbass tattoo's like those are extremely dumb and douche like, especially ones that are full body like or cover up the entire arms/chests

this goes the same for piercings mostly, i can tolerate most ear stuff and maybe a nose piercing but i hate hate hate anything else, especially lip ones, i swear i have a phobia for it because it bugs the living fuck out of me

if you have seen gamer you will know the kind of tattoo's i am interested in, gerard butler's tattoo in that is fucking sweet imo

Unless your getting a Prison tat, or a tat from some guy in a trench coat in a dark ally behind the local Thai restaurant, you really shouldn't worry about getting a disease from a tattoo. Needles are fresh and sterile, gloves are plentiful, tattoos are expensive, needles and gloves are comparatively cheap, and if a shop gave someone a disease like that, you can bet your ass that they pretty soon, the person who did it won't be living indoors for very long, unless its a prison. If you are extremely paranoid, just insist that you watch the artist take out sterile gloves, wash everything even remotely close to you in bleach, pressure cook everything that comes within a foot of you, and take out a fresh needle and tubes from a sealed package. That's not overkill, it's standard procedure.

Personally, Tattoos arn't my thing, and most are rather silly. Ive always been baffled by the Tramp Stamp myself: I mean honestly, its called a tramp stamp. No matter what it is a picture of, its still a tramp stamp. Why accept that label? The only Tattoos I have even remotely considered are 1) hard to remember equations that I may use every day tattooed on my wrist and 2) a Barcode on the back of my head, so I can just grow my hair if I want to hide it. Won't get them, but they are pretty clever ideas.
Oh, trust me, I don't think getting a disease is the biggest issue for me, I just don't want to get what is sometimes so aptly named a "tramp stamp". You are indeed correct in the sense that most shops in Western countries are safe, but not all countries are just as safe. I was recently on vacation in Thailand and saw quite a few foreigners go through the door of tattoo parlors (I love Thailand, but I'm not sure they're up to par on this particular point yet). Anyhow, I was mostly reacting to another post which cited only AIDS as a possible consequence, but a lot of people forget that there's also hepatitis C which is perhaps just as bad (cirrhosis and potentially liver cancer too).

You don't have an option for:
'Yes, but only something significant to me.'

I only want one, and I know exactly what I want and it hasn't changed for 8 years since I made up my mind of what to get.

Tattoos.. there everywhere at the moment.
You know what I don't get? People who don't know the difference between their, there, and they're. It drives me bonkers. I know not everyone can be impeccable at spelling and grammar all the time but I've always felt that's a lame excuse for some grade 3 knowledge that should be ingrained in practice by now. Sorry don't mean to pick on you but...
"I just don't get it."

OT: The poll needs a more realistic yes option than the two you gave. Mine would be more along the lines of "Yes, but only one that has specific meaning to me".

For example, I currently have no tattoos, but in the future when I can afford it I plan on getting one of a staff of sheet music with a song I wrote on it and lyrics as well winding around. I see nothing wrong with that nor a high chance of regretting it in the future.

The tattoos i have mean something to me and so I know I won't regret them in the future, I'm getting more soon and know that I won't regret them either. Plus I do things that I enjoy here in the present, fuck the future, if I'm enjoying myself now then I feel good about it.

No, I would not get one personally because I think it would look awful...on me. But on some people I do think they can look good (depending on the person, the tattoo, and its location), so I don't object to them.

Who the hell cares abot tattoos?
Most of them looks like a puddle of weird anyway, so why even bother paying, waiting and regretting?

I have 2 tattoos on my lowerback (NOT a tramp stamp) and I don't regret getting them because they mean something to me. I do plan on getting more. I only get them in places that I can easily cover up because I plan on being an elementary school teacher and they don't allow exposed tattoos.
I also have 10 ear piercings. Muah ha.

I have a tattoo on my arm. I designed it myself and for me, it incorporates a lot of my childhood and basically marks me growing into an adult. When i was 14/15ish i would work on this little design whenever i was feeling down. It felt great to eventually get it on my skin because it's such a part of me. Most people do get tattoos for stupid reasons, cliches. and the designs aren't exactly inspiring. It's a shame, but the same can be said of most stuff.
