I have a love hate relationship with tattoos. On one hand there are the godawful ones that many people have already aptly demonstrated. However I feel I should add my own bad one courtesy of I am Bored:

These types of tattoos are just proof that no matter how meaningful a tattoo is for you, it can easily look crap.

I admit though, that I do like some tattoos. Anyone here who knows In This Moment will know that the lead singer has a sleeve tattoo, and I think it looks very good. It depends on the design, and the person who has it more than the tattoo itself, although obviously there are some things like that Mr Cool Ice that will never, no matter how well planned it is, look good on anyone.

I am actually debating getting one myself. I want it to be fairly simple, and not have too much skin covered whilst still having a design that will look good a few years down the line. A simple tribal tattoo is most likely best fitting my personality and general lifestyle choice, something along this line:

Possibly not including the whole thing, but you can see the idea I mean. It's a fairly simple yet effective design that is striking without being too cluttered. I like that kind of tattoo.

Edit: Image appears to be broken so here's a link in case you can't see it.

This...

but the statement is true with kids not as much with adults since their brains are developed. When getting a tattoo, make sure it has some real meaning and that it represents something important in your life and not because it just looks cool.

well I like tattoo's and piercings ... I have some myself..
I see you point, that some tattoo's/piercings are really ugly. But I think that if you balance it, it can look really cool..

OH GOD. That last one is priceless.

I like 'em. But not all over.

I plan on getting this as a tattoo one day...

Funny, I was planning on getting this one day:

No kidding. Right shoulder, if ever. It's still a very real plan, has been for 2 years but it'll continue to be on hold because of... domestic reasons >.>

Tattoos are ok when they have a story behind them. Tattoos depicting random crap suck.

I like my tattoo, I get alot of compliments for it, but not without the fair share of crap for it. I like people to know I like Slayer, it makes a great talking point, one guy (excluding myself) asked to take a photo of it while I was in Hong Kong. Will I still like Slayer 20 years down the line? Probably not, but I still think the logo looks cool.

I'd rather not get tattoos and I'd hope my eventual partner would not have any herself.

If I do get a tattoo, it'll be small and hidden (and I hope she thinks the same way).

I'll want the Brotherhood of Nod insignia. My life for Kane!

I love my tattoos, When I got them they were significant and representive to me. They are nto on show or in anybodys face so why shoudlnt I have them. I think that if me in ten years hates them, fuck him. He will have changed from the beliefs I hold now and he will bear the tattoos as a reminder to what he once belived in. I think of them as a way to hold my future self from becoming a dick.

This is my back btw its unfinished

I have a few but they are for me, the remind me of events of my life. No one sees them because I didn't get them for others to look at.

Like all things in life, tattoos can be done well or poorly (sometimes very poorly) but in the end they are art, and should mean something to the person who gets them.

Tattoos are one of my biggest turnoffs. Rare indeed is the ink that doesn't look trashy or lower-class on someone.

If someone is an artistic enough person to want a visual representation of one particular time of their life, or of something that has meaning to them, then i don't think it's something to regret in years to come. (I have a half sleeve of a Japanese Koi/Dragon on my right forearm, and i can never imagine regretting it).

I think that tattoos can either look good or very, very bad.

I have an idea that I've been sitting on for a few months, but I still have a lot of thinking to do before I decide to permanently mark my skin.

I love hearing the stories behind people's tattoos, and I think they're very sexy when done well.

I like them. I plan to get one oneday but I'm not sure what to get.
A friend of mine has a wonderful tatoo on his back of a pair of wings.

Also, tatoos can often look good on girls.

First of all, beauty is in the eye, etc, etc. You may not like the tattoos that you posted, but presumably the owner of them does, and that's the whole point. Tattoos aren't for other people, they're for you. A personal manner of expression.

Sure, they're problematic. They fade, they stretch, you may regret the image you chose once you're 20 years older. They're not for everyone, and if you don't "get it," you likely never will. Which is just fine, there's no reason you should feel like you have to understand why someone inks up. We all express ourselves differently. Some people sing karaoke, some paint, some troll on forums, some get tattoos.

I personally find a well done sleeve on a toned arm is amazingly hot. I also like ones on a guys side, like right at his waist under his rib cage, however this area sags easily so I'd still be mad if say my husband got one there.

Me personally? I completely plan on getting a tattoo. I my deciding factor is to wait for a year and if I still think it's a good idea after waiting I'll do it.

I want 2 crossed antique rifles with 2 crossed antique pistols right above between my shoulder blade, and a tattoo of DVh somewhere, but I haven't decided yet.

I've thought about it at times, but then a few months to a year later I thought about it again and it seemed stupid. If I do get one, I'll probably get it some place where I don't have to constantly look at it and/or think about it for a year before getting one.

Well I think some can be very beautiful while others are very ugly (when they're all just crammed onto a body) but if I were to get a tattoo I would get Hal Jordans Green lantern logo on my chest

I dont dislike them though, they can look badass, but i agree with op there are so many people out there with bad tattoos, mainly people who have gone with a cheap artist and/or have a complete lack of artistic flair when it comes to choosing a design,ie picking a shit design off the wall/getting a tribal tattoo(i seriously hate tribal tattoos, always worn by douche bags, without exception.)
yeaahhh......about that......I design the things, and I'd want one, simply because it's my 'thing'. Of course, it means something to me to have one of mine, but still.

oh yeah, an example of what I probably want on my back/chest:

And an example of what I designed for some other guy:

Yep. A lot of people like the idea of a tatoo, but are scared they might get fed up with it. So I have the perfect solution. Spend some time thinking about one you really want, and then get it tattooed on your next door neighbour. That way you can see it whenever you want, and if you ever get fed up with it just move house.
