Tales of Vesperia without a doubt was the RPG that left the biggest impression on me this generation, everything about it just clicked with me and the cast was great.

Too Human also deserves mention. I really loved its look and gameplay, though most people didn't like the latter.

Sadly, this generation there's been a considerable lack of J/RPGs. But of the few there are, many are great, great games, and I've played quite a few. So, I was wondering, what you believe to be the best RPGs of this gen?
JRPGs are not roleplaying games, despite their name.
Oh, yes they are, and I don't see why you would think they're not.

Mass Effect just edges over Fallout 3 for me.
Y'see, while Fallout 3 was an excellent game, when people died in a set piece, my feelings were pretty much 'hmm, guess I'll splatter the person who did that against the walls.' Even with your first visit to Project Purity. (You all know.)
However, with Mass Effect, when someone died, I was really pissed off. The nuke got to me, and I stopped trying to convince Saren to turn back, just because I wanted to kill him. And near the finale, whenever a ship that looked like the Normandy was blown up, I cringed, and squeezed my controller. I felt connected to the characters.

I bloody love Joker as well.
If they kill him off in ME2, I WILL BE PISSED.

Although I've never played an RPG (not really my kind of game), I have seen quite a few of them in action, and out of them, Fallout 3 looked the best. Though that's probably because my friend decided to launch a Fat Man inside a pub.

I have played most of those games extensively and can tell you that I am much more content to play the one that I made up in my head to kill time in waiting rooms than any of these. The best part about it is it has flawless graphics and you play it with the power of thought alone. Not only does it auto save but you can rewind it to if you dont like the outcome of something. I call it Deadarm's World (19.8.28.7). Some of you may get that joke and some of you may not.

well i recently started playing the witcher and i am currently on the third chapter and it's awesome.

The game just has such incredibel depth and the combat is very exciting and challenging. The witcher is the only rpg where your choices actually impacts gameplay hugely.

It really is a great game and worth a try.

Fallout 3 is the best game without "Baldur's" in the title that I've ever played, so we'll go with that one. It's also strictly better than Oblivion, so I'm not sure why you even have Oblivion on the poll.
Oh, silly me, I have absolutely no idea how Oblivion made it onto the poll! How could I have been so stupid, when scientifically Fallout 3 is better? I mean it's not as though people have opinions or anything!

You missed off star ocean the last hope, that game was try=uely awesome for anyone that loves JRPG's, i'm on the seond disc and nearly played 50 hours. Truely epic game.
I love JRPGs and hated that game.

To many annoying characters and a generic plot.
I don't car I still liked it, I've had this conversation with about 3 other people as well.

I'm going with Oblivion because at the moment I can't spend anymore money on games because I need it for college and what not... but it's like in the poll with Fable 2, once you get past the diappointment. (You know what I mean, if not you're in a really weird kind of denial)

Seeing as how I've only played one current generation RPG (mostly PS1 RPGs for me), I'm going to have to pick it: Oblivion.

fallout 3 is better than oblivion, but basically the same game. its like saying brawl is better than mele, you played mele first and they are 99% identicle anyway! so how could you prefer the later game unless you where retarded enough to miss out on the first??!?

voted oblivion. anyone who disagrees with me is a fool! I'm not being biased either I love mass effect too, but its a linear game that lasts about 5 hours gameplay, how could you compare it to a sandbox game that you can invest weeks into, and do things like explore and not just listen to diaglog?

Don't you play a role in all games? I've always found it hard to classify what an RPG because in all games you're playing a role. I'm being deadly serious there.
Also, Enchanted Arms.
