DISCLAIMER: Please don't start flamewars. I just want to know main reason people have for owning PS3.
That's an assumption on your part that people buy a system soley to play one specific game. I don't have that kind of disposable income so I bought it based on many factors.

I bought it because when I got a 360 it got red ringed twice in 2 weeks and that pissed me off and I got my money back. You know how many times my ps3 has crapped out in 2 years? Never.
Free PSN that works just as well as the costly Live.
BluRay Player
More potential for amazing games

Anyway, I voted MGS4 as it's the most recognizable game that's an exclusive. Though I own all but two games on that list and enjoy them.

DMC4 and Silent Hill Homecoming unfortunately DMC4 was disappointing...
Both of those are multiplatform titles, can't really be seen therefore as the face of PS3 as such.
Well considering that LBP wasn't out when I bought my PS3 and even if it had been, LBP wouldn't have been the reason why I bought one, it was DMC4 and Silent Hill so, they are the face of PS3 for me.

You have a thread about the PS3 and yet did not include Metal Gear Solid...

OP, you got some 'splaining to do.
WHOOOPS! [cue detection sound and exclamation mark over my head]

I have absolutely,COMPLETELY forgotten about MGS4. Maybe because it's more of a movie than a game.

I'll change Resistance to MGS,'kay?
Screw you! MGS series has been a face for the Playstation as a whole, but with it's port to Xbox, it's hardly worth being the "Face" of the PS3. Resistance, a core PS3 exclusive, it's much more deserving! If anything take out a dumb game, like Rachet and clank.
Screw you! Who sais your opinion is more dominant than anyone elses to change options?!
MGS series? As a whole? My friend, you've must have missed out on Twin Snakes, and Substance. Not to mention on the Gameboy Color as well. Now, what makes you think Rachet and Clank is a dumb game? I respect your opinion, but I'm just curious.
First of all, although I've played the MGS series in the past, I haven't really owned their games and have only followed major title launches. I also know that they have a unique relationship with Sony, but the fact that they're consistently port their games to other consoles I think makes them unworthy of being the "Face" of the PS3. Not only would it make a bad argument (hey, PS3 has MGS, which you'll get soon, but it's soooo much better on the PS3 just cause...), but it would be like saying Call of Duty were the face of the PS3... it doesn't make any sense when all the other consoles have it too.

Now, Ratchet and Clank is a good game for the platformer genre (a genre I'm not particularly fond of, in spite of it's revolutionary and often times great games). Regardless, it's a "dumb" game. It's like a kiddy game. Yes, I've played it, I know there's tons of customization elements that can make it very indepth, plus there's an ok at worst and great at best storyline that propels the saga, etc. But that doesn't mean it is "mature" game. For the record, no, a game doesn't have to be mature to get a good place (my second vote to Resistance would be LBP), but for God's sake, you're playing as a friggen squirrel (or whatever...) shooting giant toy robots; and the developers expect you to take the overall plot of the game just as seriously (albeit with a different tone) as many of the more mature games. At least LBP knows it's audience and what it's trying to accomplish, thus it gets away with being a kiddy game because it's intentional and it doesn't try to be something it's not.
That is where I stopped reading. Nothing further to say, so I'm just going to facepalm and be on my way.

EDIT: That was a little harsh, so I'll try and explain. You don't have to take the plot seriously, in fact I don't think it was meant to be taken seriously. But whatever, to each his own. I love the R&C series, you hate it, moving on.

The first game that I bought for the PS3 and the single game that I continue to come back to is Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. I feel as though it is a game that represents and embodies what the PS3 is; a console that delivers a complete gaming experience.

The Ratchet & Clank series is one that has a wide appeal, and as A Crack In Time shows, is beautiful to look at. Also, the series is all Sony, and is a franchise that will not be found on any platform but by Sony.

I like how you try to end the argument with "you're derailing the topic" I stated a small argument and said what game I enjoy most on Playstation 3, that again is Disgaea 3, I could go into more detail if you like.
I wasn't trying to end anything, why would I quote you(knowing it sends a message to your inbox) if I wanted it to end? I'm sorry, from my perspective it seemed that the comment you made regarding medal gear solid was out of left field, and well derailing.

Sorry if I was annoying you.
You continue arguing a strange fact which I am confused by, if half the series isn't an exclusive to the series of Playstation consoles, it isn't an exclusive title like God of War which has been ONLY on Playstation. Yes MGS3 is a PS2 exclusive, the series is not exclusive to Sony/Playstation consoles is all I'm saying. Take it how you want but MGS isn't a sony exclusive. So again, the SERIES is not exclusive, I'm not sure if I said something that threw you off or whatever. I meant the series as a whole, not specific games, heck the they had a GBC game.
Your right, the series as a whole isn't exclusive, but that didn't seem to be how you worded it. I felt that it was necessary to put those facts out into the air to remind people that, as of late(about the past 5 years), new MGS games have been exclusive to playstation. I'm not trying to be agitating, I'm just stating that you overlooked a few things.
Disgaea is a fantastic turn based strat game with the most unique of ideas such as going into your weapons/armor/items/etc to go through battles to level it up, topped off only by the armor names or the descriptions for. For instance in disgaea 1 you can get a 'horse wiener' as an accessory. Totally crazy and awesome and certainly has character, not the prettiest game on the PS3 but it's certainly fun.
Disgaea is most certainly a great game, it definitely doesn't get the exposure it deserves. Who knows, if they made Disgaea the face of the PS3 it could do stunningly well(and give sony a drastically different appearance).

I'm not at all knocking the MGS series, I feel that when a series is exclusive it stays with a console or has a different game/sub name to it. With MGS4 coming to the 360 it's again losing it's exclusive-ness. But really I don't know why people care when an exclusive goes to other systems, Konami isn't a part of Sony, they make games for Sony and other systems so them making a game for other systems would only benefit them more and enable them to share a wonderful game/movie as MGS4 with a more wide spread audience, which is a good thing. Though it's going to be like 5+ DVDs worth of game so that'll be something new.

Not everyone sees a reason to go blow 500 bucks on a PS3 for one game. I've done that a few times with different systems including the "current gen" systems.

On topic, Disgaea does need more exposure, it's not exactly pure strat, but it's unique in so many ...weird and odd, yet awesome ways that it's gotta be played. Maybe not to level 9999 but still, a fun game series none the less. I'm eagerly awaiting Disgaea 2 for PSP with extra content (and the ability to standby the PSP in Item World REALLY takes the edge off of grinding in some ways)

I put Killzone 2, just because it utilises the PS3's strong points, and the helghast are pretty much synonymous with Playstation now. I think they heavily advertised it, didnt they?

I'd use either Ratchet and Clank or Little Big Planet in an argument about games.

Also, I mainly bought PS3 because I enjoyed my PS2 so much, and also the xbox controller feels like I'm holding a brick with acne.

From what I've heard, MGS4 isn't coming to the 360, Metal Gear Solid: Rising is. That will be a game featuring Raiden in his badass cyber ninja form. Snakes final mission will apparently never come to the 360 unless you pull some pirating stuff I've seen a few people do. They are also releasing a new MGS psp game. To me it seems that Konami favors sony but isn't...in a committed relationship I guess. :p

It is good that they will be sharing the MGS narrative with more people though.

Ratchet & Clank = hell yes./Insomniac fanboy
Shouldn't you be torn on the issue. I mean, if your an insomniac fanboy, wouldn't you want both Resistance and R&C to be the face of the ps3?
Nah, I just call myself that 'cos they're my favourate devs, I don't blindly follow them and shower them with love etc. Hell, I very nearly ended up selling R&CFTOD after the first level was soooo easy and bad.
EDIT Also, as good as Resistance is it isn't face worthy. Ape Escape would be my runner up :p Why haven't they made another Ape Escape game yet!?
The resistance 2 single player was a serious let down for me. I wanted to use the full weapon wheel like I did in Resistance: FoM. I would have also liked a deeper story that actually made you grow attached to your team, who served as nothing more than red shirts. The co-op and competitive were good though. I agree though, not face quality.

from that list id say Infamous but god of war 3 is coming out soon so my mind will most defintly change (hopefully)

by the way little big planet ,resistance , killzone 2 , metal gear solid 4 all suck!!
and yes i have played them all so its not just asumptions.
Are you talking about the KZ2 single player, because then I would agree with you. However, MGS4 does not suck(could you provide some reasons as to why you say it sucks?), MGO does though. Resistance:FoM was good, Resistance 2 was....yeah.
yeah i meant the single player for killzone 2 i havent played online but im sure id be just as frustrated as i was with single player manily because my criticism is with the controls (im a PC gamer most of the time and i dont like shooters on consoles)
as for MGS4 cant really give you a solid reason i played it and didnt like it (i did like MGS 3 though)
resistance was a typo i forgot to put the 2 in i havent played the first one, resistance 2 was the first game i played on ps3 ,it came with the console, and i honestly felt like i was playing a b-grade ps2 game ,it almost made me put my ps3 up for sale on ebay and buy a gaming PC.

hmm sorry bout my post i must of come off a bit strong
You should most definitely try out the Killzone 2 multiplayer, and you can get a USB keyboard if you don't like the controls. It's weird that you would like MGS3, but not MGS4. MGS4 mirrored the style of MGS3 more than any of the other games. Resistance 2 was only good for its multiplayer and co-op. The single player was just terrible. It's a shame you didn't get the ps3 that came with uncharted, that was a good game.

I couldn't give the PS3 a character face or game face, Resistance is close because it was good launch title and LittleBigPlanet is close because of how Sony has made sackboy pretty much the face of PS3

I'm actually not sure where that "not willing to spend 500 bucks" thing came from...I think I had a thought going but I was distracted by Red Faction. (really enjoying that game) I can't recall what that thought was so ahh...just ignore that bit hahaha! I guess in that context it could be taken as a attack on the PS3 but it's not. I think it was supposed to back up why exclusives aren't always a good thing, but again forget it.

Yeah Disgaea 2 is hitting PSP and it's coming with some Disgaea 3 elements, a new side story, possibly more characters (hopefully Prinny Hero!)

But to say there's a face for the PS3? Hm...Kratos, because that series has yet to disappoint, even the PSP game was fantastic. And the new one makes my head explode with how amazingly detail it is, truly a work of art. BUT one could also say the same for Uncharted, then again I truly enjoyed the hell out of that game too and the sequel looks 10x better.

Screw it, the face of PS3 is Kratos, Nathan Drake Narinko all in the same pair of shoes, sorted.

I own a playstation 3 mostly so that i could play grand theft auto 4 when it came out, metal gear solid 4 and final fantasy xiii which at the time of purchase was an exclusive title...

the backwards compatibility helped too since its much easier to use then the 360's but recent generations get the shaft in that department...

nevertheless i love my playstation 3, and only games like fable II that failed anyway make me want a 360...

The only game that had me desperate to aquire a ps3 was metal gear solid 4, but from what I hear I didn't miss much. Apart from that they don't really have any exclusives I'm that interested in....So I bought an xbox 360..Then realized that those exclusives were equally unappealling..
...*sadface*

Well Sony seems to be pushing Sack Boy as their mascot so I'll just agree with them.

But it doesn't matter to me, with the exception of Infamous and Valkyria Chronicles, I have all the games on that list and love them all to pieces.
NOTE: I have played Infamous and VC and am desperate for them, but financial constraints are temporarily keeping them from me.
