Because killing is wrong. Even if I were assured there would be no consequences whatsoever, I still wouldn't kill anyone just because I could.
And I fervently hope my fellow humans are like this as well. Thinking that the consequences of killing would be the only thing keeping the majority of us as non-murderers is a chilling thought indeed and would make me bemoan the fate of mankind should it ever be proven true...
If I ever do end up killing someone, it shall be by pure accident or in a war. Purposefully killing someone/executing someone in normal day-to-day life, I could never do that. Likely not even in self defence, because I know ways to handle things with minimal damage. My instincts would direct me to those methods, instead of simply summarily going for a kill.
