As an impartial judge I would say that I must know the location of the secret god giving super power thing so I can protect it from everyone. Then I take it for myself, instantly become god, and edit the OP so that I can choose myself and as such was in the right.

OT: If I can't choose myself than no one deserves to be god.
Actually this is the perfect answer, let me show you why.

As in all cases, the one who WOULDN'T want power is the best choice... because they would never abuse it.

You would.
Everyone would.
it is impossible to not abuse power in some way, even in the slightest, so yes, anyone would abuse it, but to abuse it the least amount? you would definitely not be the candidate if shown by your rash pick in your original statement.
Why would you want to give someone complete and utter control over your entire life?
if it made the world a better place for everyone? no hunger? no wars?

I would give up my freedom right now in a heartbeat.

Like in the original post, it would up to our pick, and i would pick someone i think to be very level headed who wouldn't interfere unless absolutely needed into peoples lives, i wouldn't pick a control freak who needs to enslave everyone.
It's quite possible that slavery while not ideal for us, might be the best way for us to be fixed in a quicker timeframe... not slavery like doing menial work, but definitely being aligned and reigned in... shown our place...

Sometimes the best things come out of the darkest moments.
while that is a bit more along the lines of 1984..with big brother.. i can't say i disagree horribly, but yes that was a very rough worse case scenario picture of what i was thinking

having a superior being, a god, can make things nice and orderly, lawful, while as of now with everyone running around as equals with anyone being able to take the power, leaves lots of room for chaos and disorder.
You should never sacrifice freedom for security.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

This would mean that disease would be instantly wiped out, hunger solves, disasters fixed instantly and prevented and the world would cease to suffer.
it is quite unlikely that one can end all human suffering by just wiping out diseases and preventing/fixing all disasters, making this scenario logically inconsistent.
If all human suffering would be really ended, I wouldn't create a god - it takes the challenge, the fun, and the passion out of living. There's no joy without suffering.

Do it to Richard Dawkins :)
This would be the best thing ever. Someone as reasonable as him could actually pull through.
You refer to the anti-religious man who just joined a religion as "reasonable"?

Seriously though, choose someone who doesn't think it's perfectly acceptable to walk around telling everyone they're morons, and then creating your own version of what you claim makes them morons.

you know you are really taking everything i say in the worst possible scenario case every single time.

i'm going on the fact that if i picked someone decent enough, and they kept consistent with acting decent enough, no freedoms would be hindered upon.

why would god take away your freedom? he/she/it can't be killed, why would it bother to take away your freedom to do whatever you want?

I'm thinking of Obama. Just give him the power so he can do his damn job like he intends to and clean up W's mess.

The problem with that is you can't possibly know what a person will do with infinite power until you give it to them. We aren't talking about the power to just stop a war here or there, we're talking about the power to create everything in YOUR image of perfection, and I bet you everyone's image of perfection is different. Besides what do you consider to be necessary enough for God to interfere with?
while that is true, like i said i'd pick the person who is fearful/least likely to use it (and yes you once again can say you never know what they'll do, but if logic dictates anything i'd pick someone decent enough) so they would intervene when it truly meant the sway of millions of lives, not taking away everyday personal freedoms.

and while my idea of necessary might not be right, i'd hope the person would just stop global atrocities from happening (such as tsunami's, massive earthquakes, massive wars, etc..) and spend the rest of their time being a freelancer (going to a hospital and having everyone by a miracle cured with no one knowing it was "god", have them go to a 3rd world country the next and have their harvest grow extraordinarily amazing, etc..)
Just something to consider:
"It is weakness rather than wickedness which renders men unfit to be trusted with unlimited power." -- John Adams, 1788
while that is a nice quote, and i understand it and don't necessarily disagree with it, looking for the worst in every single being on the planet seems to be of the agenda to you, so i'm just going to drop it, as you must live around horrible people if you are so dead set on never giving someone the power to do superhero like things.

Nope, sounds like a bad plan to me. One of those things that could never work out in reality as it did in theory. The strain of something like that one a human mind would probably result in insanity. Just think about the kind of dissociated state Dr. Manhattan ended up in, and he didn't just have that power thrust upon him, he actually contributed to its making. To suddenly have that kind of knowledge and power, the way it would cause one to relate to the world would be so overwhelmingly painful that I don't think anyone could maintain their sanity.

If someone had thrust such a responsibility upon me, I would probably use that power to either dissolve my own consciousness or cause myself to forget that I had the power in the first place, so that it could only manifest subconsciously.
A god who wiped his/her own memory would be a pretty awesome twist on the videogame amnesia trope.

I think if the person were literally omnipotent, they could just make themselves content. Still might not turn out well for humanity though...

Hell no.

Say some dick stepped on the new god's new shoes, that guy's fucked. We're going to have a very angry, very vindictive god.

I say no, because I don't want to give that much power to anyone, including myself. See, what I would do, is cure diseases, solve wars and other politics problems, and then try to save humanity from destroying itself and the Earth with it by killing half of them. And then a few people I don't like. When I am done with that, I'd probably use those powers like in ''Bruce Almighty'', when Jim Carrey just gets God's powers.

I suppose we would have to get into how one would perceive omniscience. If one could repress the information one was taking in, then I would agree with you. On the other hand, if one immediately felt the pain of innards being crushed within a collapsing exoskeleton as soon as his foot lands on an ant, then I would disagree. But this seems to be splitting hairs at this point. Good thought though.

I am an atheist but if I am wrong and there is a god I have a few ideas on why he doesn't cure diseases and fix everything and creates natural disasters. As for not fixing everything, it would be irresponsible. We would become dependent on God to fix everything and wouldn't be able to do anything ourselves and advance as a species. As for natural disasters, there may even be rules God has to obey to when creating things. I don't think there is a god and wouldn't want one to be created.
I am a catholic but I do feel the same way about this it's pretty much why I don't believe god really answers prayers that would manifest as something physical. I feel prayer is just a form of positive thinking since you can't just ask god to do your homework for you or to heal your grandma's terminal cancer because doing so wouldn't be fair.

Hell yes. Anything to change things up a bit. I'd give it to anyone if I cant have it myself, but I'd gladly take the power. As it is life holds no real surprises and I'll die before the really good stuff happens. I'd be ready for godhood ANYTIME.

It's been done before actually. Well, at least the case of a God that doesn't know that they are a God is the entire plot of the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya. I don't recall it ever having actually gone so far as to state that she made herself forget that she was a God, but that was kind of my impression of how things got the way they were. I imagine the pain of being a God would be just a little too great to bear.

No. Even I were the chosen person. A human-made-god would only ruin everything, like they have everything else (I know that grammatically that makes no sense, but you get it).

Hundreds of thousands would argue that they have been cured illogically by such acts.

Remember that Catholics have the pope and that means a huge line of stringency and differences from Christianity... most Christians don't agree with them, but Christians in themselves do actually believe in the power of prayer.

Ask and without greed you will be given.

Wouldn't everything start getting a bit boring if we could just say "yo God can you just give us a hand kthx"

Plus if you want to make a god just think of one, a god cannot be restrained into a mere human's mind right?
