I picked the top two in that list before I voted. Pretty happy with that...
As for the topic I'd like to see die most... anything to do with religion vs science/the war/being a ****** etc. Seriously, no one cares that you're an aetheist, agnostic, christian, or... whatever.

I so sick of "Can somebody Recommend..." especially if its about which animes show to watch. I mean there are a lot of shows to choose even if he/she is only into certain types of anime. While there nothing wrong getting people opinion on their favourite shows but wouldn't it be better to check out some kind of essential list from some anime website or a anime review?

The one's I really don't like are when the O.P. posts a topic for discussion, it's an ok topic and everything, and conversation is progressing quite well...until someone disagrees with them. From that point onwards, no matter how civilly and well argued this new persons point is, and no matter how much evidence, or logic, or general goodwill they use, the debate escalates up to the point where the second persons loses it and goes spare and then they both get put on probation or suspended or somesuch.

Oh, and V.S. threads.

Girls and gaming. It's been beaten to the ground with a dead horse on a stick.
Got a very peculiar mental picture there, of a horse on a popsicle stick...
You have a strange and disturbing mind.. That's good :)

As for the OP, I didn't really notice that many "your avatar" questions, so I'll pick "girls and gaming" as well.

Those two are mine.
While I agree with you about the second one, I feel I must inform you that asking if "I am the only one, etc" is called hyperbole, and it is a perfectly acceptable use of language. Discounting topics because of it's use is as random and pointless as disliking a topic because it employs a metaphor or something.

As for the poll....Well, I certainly don't like quite a few of those, but I have to say, I really hate anti-America threads. Not because we're the best country on Earth, but because we certainly aren't the worst, as the majority of this site's community might have you believe. Especially since so much of the crap I've read is so uninformed and baseless.

Oh, and this isn't directed to anyone in particular, but what's wrong with VS threads? The only reasons I've heard are (1)"VS threads are frowned upon here" (always those exact words for some reason) which doesn't work because you might as well say "They're bad because they're bad"...Or (2) "they create flame wars", to which I would reply "As opposed to 75% of the topics out there already?" The Escapist is made up of some of the most simultaneously confrontational and defensive people I've ever met, flame wars happen all the fucking time anyway.

I can easily pass by the avatar threads if I don't feel like dealing with one. Yea, they are pointless but they have obvious titles and when I am bored sometimes they are amusing.

Ugh, the girl gamers threads. Yes, we exist. Yes, we can play. Yes, we all have different personalities. Yes, we like all kinds of different games. Just like you. Get over it.
Since as a general group we are all spending more free time at games than running around in real world social situations I am not surprised we haven't actually met.
If I were to generalize guys in games at this point I would think most of you are loud mouth, insult spewing assholes but guess what? I know some really great guys online.
I am not an attention whore and I hate them probably more than you do. I am also the one that will tell them off over it and really confuse the guys that want to rescue girls online. Of course those guys are usually the ones that are all excited about the attention whore talking about her panties so I don't win those fights either.
I am also not the girl that is going to spew insults at you if I beat you, unless we are friends and we have that kind of relationship then I will make snarky remarks to you all the time. ;)
Quit judging us all by the bad ones or by the fact that "you have never met one". There are plenty of them on here and they comment in the threads that have nothing to do with "girl" gamers. They don't usually stand out because they are no different from guy gamers.
Okay, I think I am done at least until the next topic comes up.

While it may be hyperbole, it's also become very overused, and it would be nice if people began phrasing it differently.

I don't discount it, I just am kind of annoyed by its constant overuse.

Yeah, but many people here seem to take "am I the only one" literally and are just flat-out dicks to people who ask those questions. It's often new people to the site who start those topics, so they make such a thread and then get 30 snarky-to-asshole responses as their "Welcome to the Escapist!"

I can't moderate behavior...but it's embarrassing to see people here reacting like that, whether their reason is ignorance (not realizing it is a hyperbole) or triviality (sick of seeing the phrase).

Threads that copy other thread. Like, some one will make one that goes "What is the best type of pie?" And then some one will make one "Things that go with pie?" and then there will be "I don't like pie", and then "Could pie be used as a weapon against zombies". An so on and so forth.

I'd prefer not to see this topic anymore. Let the people jabber about what they will.

"Are girls good at games?"
"Studies show that females between the ages of 15-15.5 are 24% likely to know what video games are."
"First woman to reach the upper 15% on Halo leaderboards gives anecdotal evidence regarding the existence of other female gamers."
"Famous woman plays video games, your thoughts?"
"World-class physiologist confirms that the Xbox 360 controller fits in female hands; why do they still not play?"
"Guys, I met a girl that like video games, how do I make her love me?"
"Women: separate but equal (at everything but games)"
"I beat my girlfriend at Black Ops, am I a bad person?"
"New studies show that breasts/vaginas do not impair hand-eye coordination."
"I have minimal contact with the opposite sex due to social retardation, and as a result, finding out that literally half of the entire human population isn't totally oblivious to videogames completely mystifies me."

Anything having to do with Drugs, Piracy, Politics, and/or Religion.

Hate 'em all.

But from this list, I'd have to say "Can somebody recommend..." threads.

best console threads are the ones that annoy me the most simply because they act like the pc is not a legitimate gaming system.
They don't think the PC is a illegitimate system. It's just that the PC is not a console.

OT
Anti-America
PC vs console or any console war debate
Piracy threads
Lost faith in humanity or any angst threads
Avatar threads
Zombie threads

And a couple others I can't think of right now.

Just about everything that was listed.

It's hard to find new topics to talk about - virtually everything has been done to death. I know people want to start threads and stuff, so this sort of thing will continue.

Avatar threads
Threads about your country or other countries (Anti-America falls into this category, and in those threads even if it's about why your country rocks there'll always be someone who says America sucks and it should get nuked or something.
OK we get it, you don't like the place we happen to live, but there are good people here too, don't resign all of us to a nuclear holocaust just because of a few of our citizens. The only reason I'm talking at great length about this one is because some people here really show extensive hate towards America and frankly, sometimes it feels threatening.
Whoo, it actually feels good to get that out in the open.)

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO________?
________ Sucks.
________ Rocks.
Girls and gaming.
Relationships and romance threads.
I LOST MY FAITH (MY FAITH PLUMMETED EVEN MORE) IN HUMANITY BECAUSE SOMEONE WAS AN ASS TO ME OR I READ A STORY ON THE INTERNET OR SAW A STORY ON THE NEWS OR ETC....
Console Wars or PC VS Console.

That's about it.
