i think it shoud be anyone with 5 gcse grades at A* to C or better
Is this some attempt at bragging, or do you sincerely think putting this much trust in the current education system is wise? I only received on C grade, in science, and I know I'm more intelligent than the average person. Check your grammar, by the way...

People are ignorant at any age, but even more so below 21 and especially as young as 16. Yeah I'm sure there are 16 yr olds who are more politically savvy than I, but most of them are idiots. I'm fine with the voting age at 18, (since I got to vote in a hugely important election), but it irks me that the drinking age is 21. Yeah, I can go to prison as an adult or go fight for my country in the army, but no- me having a beer after a long day is strictly illegal. /rantoff

It doesn't really matter, because if your an idiot at 16, you're going to be an idiot at 18. It just matters on how soon they can be a legal idiot everywhere.

that really wouldnt be very fair to some with dyslexia who might have iq of say 200 but has problems spelling
With most exams now you are only ikey to loose 1 or 2 marks for your spelling, I'm dyslexic myself and i managed to do it

16 since you are trusted with the safty of others (i.e. Driving a car) you should be trusted to vote for your leader

I don't think it's age we should be worried about. It's more a matter of intelligence and awareness of the issues and candidates being voted on.

That said, I think 18 is fine. Maybe 21 though, to be safe. Some 18 year olds can still be quite immature.

I think 18 is fine. While I would like to vote (I'm 15). I think the voting age is fine where it is. The idiots of 18 don;t have time to do things like vote. The idiot that are 16, they have nothing better to do but vote for the popular canidate.

What you can write in 3 hours is already the judge of your human potential, because (in most cases) the grades you get at school will effect the job you end up with.

and i'm sorry about my grammar, and aso if i have offended anyone out there by being so far up my own arse

but personaly i don't think descision about who should run the country should fall to people that fail the exams 15/16 year olds take

really your exam grades have very little to do with how much money you make in life like sir alan sugar has practically no qualifications your statement is very naive like alot of this thread measuring human potential by a piece paper is actually completely arbitrary really

Hmm...ideally it would be a different age depending on the person...

I knew some people who aged 14 were incredibly well-informed and should have been able to vote, but I also know some 20 year olds who seem to have very simplistic views of the world. Somewhere between 16 and 18 seems about the right balance...

Hahaha! I'm the only person who said "under 14", awesome!
But yeah I think when I was 13 I was more knowledgable about the political process than at least a quarter of the people over 18 at the time.

There should only be three requirements to vote.
You MUST be a citizen.
You MUST be older than the legal working age (usually around 13 or 14, but this can be as low as the country wants it to be).
You MUST have registered to vote. Registration would entail, among other things, a political awareness test, in which you must prove that you have at least a basic understanding of the political process. (Works similar to a driving test)

For people over 25 registration is mandatory, and thus voting is completely optional until you turn 25. People over 25 who cannot complete the test will be fined, in the same manner as if they incorrectly filled out their voting pamphlet.

Giving teenagers the right to vote means the education system won't be left to the mercy of concerned parents.

at my school over 2/3 of the dipshits are unable to even dress themselvs so i think you should have to take some kind of test and if you pass it you would be able to vote or some other kind of show of intelligence (note i am 15)

I could have voted rationally when I was 16, but it's 18 because that is when you are legally an adult (at least in America). Same goes for the age restriction of running for presidential office. I feel I could run this country just fine at 24, but it's obviously at 35 for a reason.

If your aren't mature enough at 18 years old to be responsible at the polls, you never will be.
