in Britain there are non-denominational state funded schools, where anyone of any religion or background can attend. Then there are state funded religious schools most of which are for catholics (although I believe there are some for muslims aswell) and then there are private schools which you have to pay to attend.
I finished school this year but I went to a the state school seeing as im an athiest, and I have a lone parent who is poor.
Religious schools tend to get somewhat better results from their students than other state schools, and private schools tend to get better results than all the other schools.
Although me and just about everyone im friends with will be starting at uni this september so in the end it doesnt really matter
EDIT: reading over some other posts, people saying the public and private thing are the other way round in britain, I dont really get that myself but I believe i've explained what i've talked about well enough for you to understand what I meant, even if I'm calling it the wrong thing
