I'm very fond of Nintendo. As far as home consoles go, XBox and PS3 have amazing graphics and sounds, and I find myself "Ooh!"-ing and "Wow!"-ing a lot, but I find myself getting bored easily and quickly with the games they offer. When I'm playing Wii, I find myself actually having fun and laughing and losing track of time. I feel that my gaming time is well-spent. Also, I'm playing with my friends. Not through wires and headsets, but right there. I appreciate that simple thing.

As far as portable gaming goes, the DS is my favorite gaming system right now -- portable, home, PC or arcade. Not only am I having fun, but I'm having fun everywhere.

Beyond that, I appreciate Nintendo's efforts to make gaming more-accessible.

Just one man's opinion.

I'll admit that Nintendo keeps rehashing old series(almost all still good though) but they do make new games and gameplay styles: Pikmin, Disaster: Day of Crisis, WarioWare, and every Kirby game. They innovate more then most and tend to do a good job of it.

I saw a girl in EB, about 6 years old, getting Alpha Protocol
...and that is the reason why people think the industry should be heavily restricted.

I grew up on Nintendo and many of their games are personal favorites, but I will admit that their third-party support is horrible. On any given Nintendo system, it's about 20% good Nintendo-made games, about 10% good third-party games, and 70% shovel-ware and kiddie games.

I like them, they've made some great games, but I'm no fanboy.

Honestly, you'll find some rather mindless Nintendo hatred here. For some reason the PC Gaming Master Race takes particular offense to Nintendo's very existence.
Because some PC gamers are xenophobic by nature and will always hate nintendo for being both awesome and console exclusive.
CAPTCHA: vatoost infinitary

I think some of us have valid reasons to disliek nintendo regardless of our platform of choice.....I am a PC gamer and I dont think all consoles are rubish (excpet the wii but ONLY because its not targeted to my interests in the first place)
Hence the "some" part. Some people have valid reasons to dislike things, some people hate for hates sake.
Don't make me bold things. I'm too lazy.
well I did decect a little anti-PC gamer sentiment in that post...

They make good 1st party games and the DS is pretty sweet.

That said, they need to get more 3rd-party developers behind their home consoles. The Wii's library is flat-out pathetic compared to the X360 and the PS3.

They could also stand to come up with some new IPs instead of just milking their popular franchises until they die a slow death.

Nintendo's pretty much a fixture in the industry now, and every good move they've made has been good enough that the next 10 bad moves they make won't matter much. They're certainly not going anywhere, but that doesn't give them a license to stagnate.

I have nothing against Nintendo. Super Mario World, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda and, Donkey Kong Country were big when I was a kid. I'm still huge into Pokemon and, Zelda too.

The thing is, I hate the Wii. I like the DS but use it mainly for Pokemon and a little bit of the new Dragon Quest. As for the 3DS...I'm waiting for the next version. How long did it take for the DS-Lite to come out after the original DS was released? Weather I get the Mark-II or get the original 3DS once the price drops is still up in the air.

Right now Nintendo is going through its awkward teen years, so I'll wait a few years for them to sort themselves out.
lol I couldn't really say this any better.

Basically I love everything Nintendo has done up until the Gamecube, where the games were noticeably on the decline (in comparison with the N64), and I blame this largely on the loss of one of their major players, Rare.

Well I generally dislike Nintendo simply because I hate the vast majority of their games and their consoles....especially Mario.

Only game I've enjoyed of theirs is Super Smash Brothers, I do love that and thank them for it.

For the people who say they hate them because they keep making the same games over and over, that's what everyone is doing. Innovation in gaming in general is sadly lacking, Nintendo isn't worse about it than others. They're probably better about it actually considering the Wii introduced some real innovations, even if those innovations weren't particularly worthwhile in themselves.
yeah but the difference is if the next mario or zelda comes out I wont play it because I honestly dont care whats going on

another fallout? you could argue its the smame thing but a new fallout can always take the wastleand to new and itnerestign places, a new story new charachters,

or mas effect 3 or dragon age 2? you wouldnt belive how exited I am about those

but mario....well mario's going to go save princess peach every friggen time...whoopdy do!

They turned their back on gamers in favor of the casual market. They pump out the same 5 tiles, the only one I enjoy being pokemon. The Wii is a joke. Hmm, a lot of my Nintendo hate comes from Zero Punctuation.

In all honesty, I use to like Nintendo before all this Wii business came about. I can be mad that so many non gamers I know have a Wii, but in reality those people wouldn't have a gaming system even if the Wii didn't exist. I hate the fact they crap out 20+ Mario titles a year, but I do enjoy Mario Kart. They are the only racing games I like. Other than their controllers always being oddly shaped, Nintendo doesn't have that much long term bad history with me. Hopefully this whole Wii business will be over eventually and the troglodytes can move on to other shiny things. (Darn you ZP!)

I have a question to any Nintendo lovers

1. do you have a Wii?

2. Is it the ONLY game console you own?

my point is it dosnt exactally stand up on its own does it?

Indifference.

I don't dislike them at all, but I have no interest in their products.

So yeah... live and let live.

I never really thought about them much before coming to the Escapist.

Now I like them a lot.

I like Nintendo's franchises, and I like how they went with what works instead of what was the flashiest thing, and spreading games over a broad demographic. I like Nintendo overall, I just wish they wouldn't alienate "gamers," the non-casual crowd that like Metroid and Resident Evil, et cetera. Zelda has been doing pretty good as a series on the Wii, but I'd like to see Nintendo do something more intense that's good.

For me, they're utterly irrelevant.

In my 27 or so years of gaming I've never owned a Nintendo console or really played any of their games, and from what I've seen of their products, they're not really my cup of tea.

I think Nintendo holds onto video games are fun rather than video games are grand epic pieces of art. There is nothing wrong with that for me. When I need less seriousness and a little more silly I will always turn towards my Wii. Its the simple fun aspect Nintendo masters at. Plus I think in the next generation Nintendo will make motion controls be more fantastic and much more accessible to hard core gamers. I almost like to think of the Wii as a prototype to something much more grand.

They need to add something new to their games. Like, soon. Zelda is just stinking up the place, Mario has nowhere left to go, Metroid has been left for dead, and Donkey Kong's fanbase has withered away. I don't know what they need to do, but what there doing right now isn't exactly good.

As for my history with Nintendo.

*AHEM*

When that special Christmas day I got a GBA SP, I played my first (owned) Nintendo Game: Donkey Kong Country. I liked it at first, then got bored. My cousin was playing some very interesting game called Pokemanz Safired. I got hooked instantly. I eventually started playing Mario games, then I tried Zelda. I loved them all dearly. Then I got a PS2. I then got hooked on Kingdom Hearts, then I got hooked on Paper Mario: TTYD. I basically went in circles. Disney, Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Pokemon, Disney, Pokemon, Mario, Sonic, Mario, Pokemon. Now repeat.

To sum this up in the last couple-a years, I got hooked on Halo, then Minecraft. In my opinion, Nintendo needs to take a break from their overmilked game titles. Branch out a little.
