Whatever they think I could do the most good in, its what I did when I was drafted for real.

It disappoints me to see such a low level of courage here sometimes, either you fight or someone else has to fight for you. We all die eventually, better to live a shorter life of meaning then twenty more years as a coward which serves nothing but himself.
So you would have served in the Nazi army to protect Germany as the allies pounded down on it? Better to live a short life of meaning right?

Christ it's people like you who don't question the direction of a country which make the world a dangerous place.
WTF?!

How the hell do you go from a talk to conscripting for training in a military in case of a war to me being a Nazi sympathizer?!

I expect an apology.
Ah, Reducto Ad Hitlerum. For when they can't think of an actual argument against what you've said. It's been tried on me multiple times, and has made sense in not a single one.

And OP, I'm guessing you're Swedish?

Sorry but I have to ask, whats all this nonsense about aggressors and being ruled but a foreign power?. Because I don't recall the topic being about whether you would defend your country from an invasion. I read something about what you would do if drafted for a likely future conflict, it says nothing about where this conflict will be fought. hey, maybe your country's the aggressor. Don't assume you'll be the good guy, and then see if you're so willing.
Read the quotes. I was responding to the question of "why the hell would want to protect [my] country."

I'd make a TERRIBLE soldier, I'm asthmatic, astigmatic AND I have Flat Feet. I'd never get drafted for actual combat duty, I'd be a waste of training.

Now if Canada was actually being invaded, I'd fight alongside everyone else as long as they'd let me.

Lol, close but oh so wrong. I'm from Finland and we're part of the reason why Sweden can afford to cut their military to ridiculously low numbers.

Sorry about that, but here in Finland most of the people I know consider Swedish military a complete and utter joke, incapable of defending their country from even half-assed invasion attempt.

They base their military (at least partly) on the fact that no one will seriously even think of attacking them and all they need is a token force for peacekeeping mission and such.

Understandable, but if I ever kill a man, I'll do it Dexter-style - kidnapping, sterile environment as I kill them, and quick disposal.

I refuse to give someone a fair chance to kill me.
That's why you join the Air Force. Preferably as the pilot of a Stealth. ;)

I wold be glad if they did something like that. It would create an organized, healthy, and well-groomed society. Besides, I've been trying to decide if i should join or not anyway, and that would give me my answer.

Where's the thrill in taking the lives of others?
I never said there was a thrill in taking the lives of others, just you said you don't like giving people a fair chance. Having a 125 Million dollar jet with 20,000 lbs. of ordinance, and that can't even be targeted, is about as lopsided odds as you can get.

You seriously didn't understand his argument? He didn't call you a Nazi symapthizer. His argument is this:-
Hypothetically, if you lived in Nazi Germany and were of age to give military service during WWII, would you serve in the army towards the end of the war because it's "better to live a shorter life of meaning"?

Essentially he's saying that if you disagree with your countries motives for a war, would you still be signing up?

long range combat because of the fact that it's safer than frontline and I'll never see action anyways since Sweden will surrender at first sight of armed forces.

i would probably be one of those dudes in training who talks a high game, and then once the combat starts, i quietly lay down my weapon and break out my nike's and start sprinting back towards HQ.

I'm Swedish and I agree. I think that our contribution to the UN force was a single cruiser X ) (sry for double post)
