Simply just staying in one spot for an extended period of time under any circumstances.

Watching a doorway and shooting anyone that comes in? Thats camping.

Lying on the ground with a sniper rifle grassy knoll style picking people off? Thats camping.

Hiding behind a wall waiting for a weapon or vehicle to spawn? Thats camping.

To me the worst kind of camping is when you have no chance at all of getting out alive, like using proximity mines or overlooking a doorway with an assault gun and shredding anyone who steps inside.

IMO camping can be defined as staying in a small area for the entire game. If they stick to one building I'd call it camping as well.
This man has it correct in just these two sentences.

Traditionally, camping is the act of sleeping somewhere other than your house, whether it be in a tent, in your car, or in a motor home better than your house.

In relation to video games, camping is sitting in/around a blind corner in such a manner that anyone approaching the corner would have no idea some schmuck is sitting there with a shotgun and an overactive trigger finger.

1 spot the entire game is camping.

Moving in a small area depends on how small.

For example, RDR multiplayer, some guy just kept trying to get on this one roof. And only that one roof. He wouldn't do anything on his way there and kept trying to get up there, and once up there, he wouldn't move no matter what happened or if the fighting moved across the map.

That's camping.

CAMPING: 1.Staying in one room ,with one effective close or mid range gun, waiting for another player. The effective way to defeat them is a grenade that can either kill or make someone come out of hiding.

This doesn't apply if someone is defending an objective. Camping is often confused with sniping. Snipers have to stay in one good spot and kill someone from a long range. It's the good way for a sniper to kill.

2. Sleeping under the stars with a fire and a tent.

camping (verb) - any action involving louie spence

ex: yesterday i seen louie spence camping to the shop. As he camped his way to the counter, he camped over his cash and then camped back out again

louie spence is awesome though, he does everything with so much style

Camping is staying in the top lift room in Sword Base with the energy sword. I know i must be really annoying people, but there is something rather delicious about murdering people as they continue to come up the lift to their doom.

Tbh, Campers arn't really that much of a problem, once you know where they are it should be fairly easy to work a way to kill them. If you continue to go up the lift, expect pain.

staying in a corner/small area/graphical glitch until an enemy comes past. note this means sitting for more than a minute as knowing someone is in a room (from radar for example) and waiting a few seconds doesn't really count.

usually once killed in their camp spot they will immediately head back to that spot or move on to another one

It's all in the mindset.

If you KNOW somebody is right around the corner, thinking "If I wait here and he comes around the corner, I'll kill him.", that's not camping.

If you go to the corner thinking "Someone will come through here EVENTUALLY.", THAT'S camping.
This sums it up perfectly, and put into words the definition I've been applying but couldn't quite explain, those times I wait a little bit for that guy who's on his way around the corner is something I felt wasn't camping, but I wasn't sure why.

I once had this one guy in CoD MW2 in the map 'scrapyard' that always returned to the exact same spot. After I killed him about three times I just stormed in there and emptied my gun at the pile of corpses, and I still killed him a couple of times.

I kinda do that with proximity mine I place them in a spot that I figure will get traffic then I either ignore that spot or I pin people forcing them to enter that place for cover.

But I figure this is a good idea of basic camping. It is a boring way to play IMHO.

Camping is remaining in a strategically advantageous location for an extended period of time. The size of the location doesn't matter, as long as staying there gives you an advantage.
