Remaining in one spot, using the same tactic throughout the entire game no matter how many times they're killed.

2 entrance building? Claymore 1 door, stare unmoving at the other until someone moves. If killed, return to spot and repeat.

That is camping.

And it's also fucking boring.

The only thing I really see as "camping" in the bad sense is people who hang around spawn points just to get cheap kills and there is absolutely nothing that the opposing player can do about it.
For example, play almost any mode in Black Ops on Nuketown, you will always get some guy running around the spawns with an AK47-u or knifing, and it's like spawn, dead. Or sitting with an LMG by the bus and spraying into the fence where people spawn behind.

I chose 1 and 2 because with "Patrolling" I was thinking more "scanning".

When I watch my brother camp in a place, he would always check the areas where someone could catch him exposed a little.Look off of balconies/cliffs/stairs and etc.

A good camper will choose the best spot where he can see someone first, kill, and then fend off the pissed-off people when they respawn.

For me its anyone who sits with a clear shot and someone's spawn and wont leave, they can be near or farr but if I cant last 2 seconds after spawning then someone is camping me...

just remember that some weapons (sniper rifle) encourage staying at a perch untill you get your chance, a sniper aiming at one doorway no-matter the consecuence is a camper.

Wait, so it's just if you stand in a corner? So if I'm sniping people from an open rooftop, does that count as camping? Because I've been told it does, and my rhetoration was the fact that I have a sniper rifle, therefor I am sniping.

Was I in the right, as a sniper?

Yeah, uhm...

I thought of going somewhere that has trees and grass and stuff, and eat loads of junk and marshmallows and then sleep in a tent.
Of course it isn't a real camping trip, if you don't catch a really bad cold while sleeping.

Can anyone help me with this? Back when I was a kid playing Hide and go seek, whenever someone stood in one spot we'd call it Monkey Camping, or something, we even had a rule where they had to get off before we counted to 10...or something.

I think camping is just when someone sticks to one spot and doesn't really move around too much

Along time ago when I attended my first (and last) LAN party (11 yrs), and I had never really played TF there was one level with a canvas back army truck, my whole team was slaughtered and I was the last person alive on the map, the opposing team couldn't find me or something, anyway eventually they did and one by one I killed 4 of their side, they finally got smart and stormed my truck with 5 ppl thus killing my glory LOL

I was informed that was camping.

I used to think that sniping was camping, but really since all these FPS's have a sniper rifle well...the line gets blurred.
My new definition of camping is that one jerkoff on a Reach Map that goes invisible in one corner with the sword jumps out and stabs you. I HATE THAT

Also a old multiplayer fps term that still applies and is highly annoying to this day is "fairy" is that moron that contantly hops and jumps and shoots.......constantly

Definition of camping...

Well, your plain vanilla "camping" is basically just sitting in a single position for an extended period of time. Usually this position will give you a strategic advantage over the other players, but doesn't have to. For instance, I've seen people "camp" by lying down in bushes and just waiting until the action passes them by, then sneaking out to deal damage.

Usually a "camping" position is one that a person will return to time and again, even if they believe their location has been compromised. They will generally fight to keep that position, believing that its strategic importance outweighs every other tactic in that particular match/game. This will involve using explosive devices (proximity mines, bouncing betties, claymores, and so forth), heavy close- to mid-range weaponry (shotguns are prime for this), or diversionary tactics (decoys are a good example of this, luring people back to this position).

By this definition, the tactics that snipers utilize fall under "camping". And yet, people give snipers an exception to their rage over "camping". Why is that? Because snipers have to utilize an increased amount of skill to kill their targets, having to aim very carefully and usually only getting a single shot to deliver death. If they miss, they have compromised their location and are now susceptible to being attacked.

True "campers" do not have to work with the limitations that snipers do; yes, they utilize the same tactics, but their choice of weaponry allows "campers" to protect themselves more effectively. Automatic weaponry or high-damage weaponry can deal with close-range enemies much more quickly than single-shot scoped weaponry, as it is easier to correct your aim at that shorter distance. This in turn allows you to more quickly deal with approaching enemies.

Regardless of all of this, however, "campers" are very easy to handle. Once you have acquired their location, you have one of two options: you can avoid the area altogether, thus not feeding their increasing score; or you can retaliate. The retaliatory option is often much more simply accomplished than one might believe; it is easy to get frustrated with "campers", but if you keep your head about you, they are easy to deal with. You can use diversionary tactics of your own to draw them out, or your own explosive devices to harm them from afar. In Black Ops, you can make use of the RC-XD to flush them out of their position or simply kill them outright. Or, if you can work with a partner, you can ambush the "camper" from two different directions simultaneously, easily dispatching him. Remember: the team that kills together teabags campers together!

Of course, beyond your plain "camping" you have "spawn camping", which is where a person "camps" in a position that gives you a good view of the opposing teams' spawn point, giving the enemy no chance to react before they are cut down, only to respawn moments later and have the same fate befall them.

This tactic is only utlized by the largest of douchebags and should be punished with a red-hot poker being forced up [THIS SENTENCE CENSORED AND REDACTED TO SAVE THE CHILDREN'S EYES AND SENSIBILITIES].

So yeah. Camping in a nutshell.

If someone is sitting in a corner the whole game using a short range weapon. Snipers are not campers.

Patrolling a small area like a room.

You wanna see me get high scores? I'll play like that.

Rewarding kills, I will bum rush the spawns, taking as many with me as possible. Kinda why I dislike killstreaks.

I can't find that clip of Clint Eastwood camping in "Two Mules for Sister Sara". Dang. Well here's a substitute.

My definition of camping is hiding in a discrete location for a given period of time (from at least a few minutes to the entire gaming session) in order to easily pick off your opponents.

Camp·er
(noun)
?1: A general insult, usually used in competive games.
?2: One who has a lack of skill.
In multiplayer video games, a camper is a player who sits in one place and waits for an opponent to walk right in front of them, allowing them to get points with little effort.

staying in one location to simply rack up kills.if theres an actual reason for staying in that location for something like defending an objective, then it's not camping, its defending.i hate it when people go nuts at a defending team for actually defending
