I have always loved Studio Ghibli films. They are some of the best movies ever and they are on the top ten list of best films ever. My favorite is 'Howl's Moving Castle'.

But I was wondering what other people think and what their favorite films is. So tell me: what is your favorite Studio Ghibli film?

Thank you.

ps, if you favorite film is not on the list, just post it as a comment.

I personally am a big fan of Princess Mononoke. Liked the animation, like the characters, and of course liked the plot.

I haven't seem them all but out of the ones I have seen, I would choose Princess Mononoke. A simply brilliant piece of animation.

Howl's Moving Castle, if only for the fact that the dub has Christian Bale expressing emotions.

I've only seen Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, they're both brilliant movies...

I'm gonna have to go with Spirited Away.

I actually really liked the cat returns, even though it was hardly their most popular titled.

I can also say that Grave of the Fireflies was the saddest movie I've ever seen.

I love Castle in the Sky dearly. Twas the first Ghibli movie that I've seen, so it has a place in my heart.

Princess Mononoke. Unless 'Catle of Cagliostro' was Studio Ghibli, though I don't think it was, just the same artist.

What, only 8 options?

I own 15 studio Ghibli films... I'm Offended ;p

Personally, I can't decide.

It'd be The cat Returns, Princess Monoke, Laputa: Castle in the sky, Nausica of the valley of the winds, Porco Rosso, or even Kiki's delivery service.

Anyway, as a point of reference, here's a list of the ones that have been released so far (in the UK anyway - There's more in Japan)

(This is more or less in chronological order in which the films were originally made - The order of release in the west is somewhat different)

These films involve prominent members of studio Ghibli, but predate the studio itself being formed:

The little Norse Prince
Lupin 3

This one isn't technically studio ghibli either, but it is in essence the first film they did. (the studio formed the year after)

Nausica of the valley of the wind

Then the films so far released are:

Laputa: Castle in the sky
My neighbour totoro
Grave of the fireflies
Kiki's delivery service
Only yesterday
Porco Rosso
Ocean Waves
Pom Poko
Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke
My Neighbours the Yamadas
Spirited Away
The Cat Returns
Howl's Moving Castle
Tales from Earthsea
Ponyo

So, yeah. 16 official films, 1 that might as well be, and two that are closely related to important people at the studio. XD

Where's Only Yesterday?

Poll needs research.

Castle of Cagliostro!!! I believe it was Ghibli.
It was pre-Ghibli, but was directed Miyazaki relatively early in his career (then again, Nausicca was also technically not by Ghibli, but people count it anyway).

On topic, I'd probably go with Castle in the Sky as I love airships, but my opinion is by no means set in stone.

Where the hell is Porco Rosso on that poll? The whole thing was great but it felt like it was missing something.

Probably Spirited Away is my favourite though.

I've only seen Princess Mononoke (my favourite so far), Laputa, Nausicaa and Grave of the Fireflies.

I like the fact that each one brings something different to the table, and hope to own or watch the rest at some point.

Of those in the poll I picked My Neighbour Totoro. So simple, so emotional, so eloquent in its depiction of the magic of childhood.

I like My Neighbour Totoro too. It was nice difference from everything else that was out at that time.
