Wow... I thought I was the only person in perhaps the whole world who liked Totodile better than the other two. In generation 1, I'd always switch between the three equally.

I always get the fire starter the first time I play a new gen, and since I'm mostly getting this game out of nostalgia... Seems right.

I'm likely to start with Tododile. Find a way to trade it over to Diamond. Get Cyndaquil. Do the same with him. Then get Chikorita. THEN... I'll catch a shitload of useless sentret and trade them over to my diamond game while I take EVERY pokemon I've been working on in Diamond since I've had it. ... It'll be some good times when SoulSilver comes out.

For old times sake I'm going with Totodile and breaking my rule about not nicknaming my Pokemon. I'll be naming it Croc after the original that I had in Crystal. I'm also going to keep restarting until it's a female because I had a female in the original.

Chikorita.

I've always been picking the Fire-type because it's always been the powerhouse (except in Johto's case, where Totodile is), but I've changed my mind.

I've also been thinking about getting a few more defensive 'mons on my team; Chikorita's the only starter designed for that. Shuckle just isn't cutting it!

EDIT:

You'd be crazy to pick Chikorita. Not only does she/he/it suck dramatically, but the first gym is flying type and the second is bug type. Have fun with that...

That's what the Geodudes are for.

Chikorita, I love it's final form. Though with the only exception being squirtle I never keep my starter pokemon in my main party.
