Failing that, remake Marathon, but for god's sake, not another Halo.

There are series that can keep going without outstaying their welcome and turn into franchises, and there are series that can't. An RTS is probably the furthest they (Ensemble) could deviate from the original FPS formula of Halo without getting the fanboys up in arms.

But now that Bungie aren't on Halo any more, nor are they tied to Microsoft, I would like to see if they could make a title that isn't sci-fi... or if they must, where the hell is the cyberpunk? This industry is cyberpunk starved, and I need my fill.

I think they should work on a new IP, but as companies such as Nintendo have shown, what's important is how fresh the gameplay is, not the name on the box. A new "Halo" game that's very different to the existing Halos would be good enough for me.

I believe that a new direction is a very good idea, I know they have talent in the company, maybe a new outlet is needed to express that talent

Well, the company has stated that they're not making any new Halo games, and that they're starting with something different, which is something I'm quite happy with. It's nice to see a company realize that sometimes it's a good thing to quit while you're ahead, rather than run an IP into the ground a la Nintendo.

Far as I know, they might be making a new RTS(Halo started as an RTS).

I'll be happy whatever they do, Bungie make some damn fine games IMHO and I'm sure whatever they do next will be just as good. They've still got a lot they can do with the Halo Universe without it being about Master Chief, a new marathon game would always be interesting and the games industry as a whole can never have enough IPs.
