High school. And singing. And when people in my age/peer group say that they like it, I roll my eyes and sigh a bit.

From what I can tell, Pop Culture. Cashes in on having people sing very well recognized and popular songs and having clicéd characters such as the very very obviously gay sterotype, the very large black girl who has a great voice, the asian, the skinny nerd, etc etc.
Sorry, but that was just irking my chain.

OT: Yeah, it's a stupid, "Grown up" version of highschool musical where they cash in on popular songs.

HighSchool Musical: the TV Show

'nuff said

(though, quite honestly, Glee has a much better music selection, as boring as the show is)

Nothing. It has no plot, meaning, purpose or message. And I say this as someone who used to be in the fandom for it.

Basically, the show is about random one-liners interspersed with musical numbers and really bad attempts at drama.
Basically this. The first season had some clever pop culture commentary and the whole thing was presented in an ironic manner with a good sense of humor. For the second season they've decided to abandon all that for fan-service and cashing on covers. Plus yeah, pathetic attempts at drama.

As far as I can tell (without ever actually watching the show) it's High School Musical as a TV show, but nowhere near as sickeningly sweet.

a quick question, has anyone who posted on this forum hating it actualy seen the show?
I haven't actually hated on it yet, but, I will now so I'll answer the question first. Yes, I watched an entire 5 episodes of it due to everyone I know saying how amazing it apparently was before I finally decided "Screw it".

It's pretty much a teen drama, covering most areas which have already been covered time and time again in other teen dramas - pregnancy, lying, deceit, bullying, sexuality, etc. With the added bonus of a popular musical number being thrown in every now and then to draw the masses in.

The second season has started airing in the UK recently and I'm already sick of hearing about it. Damn gleeks. (Yes, they actually went to the trouble of creating a new word to describe themselves)

Whats it about?...Uuh.. kids being uncool, BUT SUDDENLY its cool to be differenderp.
Wow, Damon Albarn sure came off as an ineloquent idiot there...and I actually quite like his stuff.

Glee is about a glee club, where a bunch of outcasts/wannabe performers sing about issues relevant to their lives. They cover a few things, homosexuality, parents dating, pregnancy and dealing with being unpopular while contrastingly striving to become famous.

For what it is, a teen drama with musical numbers, I actually think it's pretty damn good. It works at what it is trying to achieve. The main problem is that the characters are often unlikable, but this is a hell of a lot better than them being forced down your throat as the nicest folks ever.

I don't really see what any of the hate for Glee is about, it knows who it is aiming for and delivers to them. It does engage with some relevant themes, and does so well above other shows, and other mediums (such as games).

I'd give it a shot, I think you'll know from the first episode whether it's for you or not.

If you like modern American sensationalist pop music.... you will like that show.

A few of my friends are into it. They once made me listen to "this awesome, awesome song" from glee. It started out as a Bonjovi song, Livin on a Prayer which is fine by me, since I've been a Bon Jovi fan since i was a wee lad.

and then they started remixing it......with an Akon song.
My friend gave me the "isn't it cool?" look.

I gave him the "I hate you with all the Rage I have stored at the bottom of the deep black tortured chasm of my newly broken heart, look!"
He has never mentioned that show to me ever since.

Not a fan.

I got beaten to death by Glee commercials on That Guy With The Glasses and they are planning to air it on Dutch TV channels and I would like to know what its about
It's a reasonably entertaining show about high school drama, singing, and a fucking hilarious cheerleading coach. Seriously, you need to watch the show just for Sue Sullivan.

It's one of those things I thought I'd hate, but after watching a few episodes found myself enjoying in a guilty, secretive fashion. I stopped watching after the Rocky Horror episode, though.

"Welcome to Glee, where every episode is the Musical Episode. Trust us, it's Better Than It Sounds.
Glee is about a high school teacher's attempts to organize the glee club while dealing with his own personal issues. The first episode alone featured music from such disparate sources as Journey and Guys And Dolls, and the show goes on to showcase everything from Charlie Chaplin to Lady Gaga.
The musical numbers are usually given an in-universe justification with the activities of the glee club, instead of seemingly springing fully formed from the minds of characters in normal situations, as with most musicals. The effect is very... postmodern. That Reminds Me Of A Song is in full effect. From time to time, an individual does just break into a full-on song and dance sequence with back-up dancers and props and so forth, and it cuts from location to location mid-stream like a music video; based on contextual clues these moments appear to be taking place in the individual's thoughts.
Tons of character stereotypes show up to the point of reviving a few Dead Horse Tropes."

straight from tvtrope's mouth.

Great post.

I am not a fan of it. It's just weird for me. I don't like that style though it's better than what would happen if another show just go ta musical episode every week.

All I know of it after I stopped watching is that the girls across the hall from me will castrate anyone who dares speak to them while the show is on.

I find it awkward that there was a, "Glee" club where people just went to a house and drank while watching it. Not something I'd expect from adults but whatever.

I've tried watching it and can't stand it. I actually kind of enjoy it for a while, but then they break out into song. My god the singing is absolutely unbearable o-O

See, the kid in the wheelchair is hilarious. It's pretty subtle, but frequent enough that I'm sure it's intentional, that when the teacher says something like "Get out of those chairs and dance!" the camera will linger slightly too long on the wheelchair kid. Or when he pretends to play a guitar solo on stage, so they have the asian girl spin his chair in circles. I got the impression that the show was mocking the PC crowd more than appeasing them.
