I gotta say the second generation (Gold/Silver/Crystal) because it did the one thing no other pokemon game did: It let you go back to the first generation's area and conquer their gyms with a super-team. Plus, it made revisions to bugs in the original game (like how Ghosts couldn't hit Psychics), added in the day/night cycle and communication with other trainers, new types, re-working how old pokemon operated, held items and other long-running staples of the pokemon games.

In short, it was exactly what a sequel was supposed to do; it took what the first game did and expanded on it.
I despise the day night cycle. Waking up early to catch a fucking ladybug is bullshit.

LOL yeah i have to admit that got me there. and what you said about ALL the pokemon being in the pokedex

wtf why is celebi and mew included in the pokedex now? there is truly no goddamned way to "catch them all"!!!!
And all the god damned legendaries in platinum! You need fucking items you can only get one special days which have all passed of course, so if you missed it WELL TOO BAD YOU CAN'T GET THEM. FUCK YOU. Oh and Regigigas? FUCK YOU you can only get him if you were at toys R us on a day no one told you about. Arceus? Well if you weren't in japan you're fucked but we'll tell you about all the cool stuff you can do with him in the next pokemon game anyway!

holy hell yeah. i remember jirachi was only given if you baught the movie or a gamecube game like 5 yrs ago. celibi is just a pain in the arse and mew is just unobainable.

legendary pokemon use to mean something because they were hard to find and all around epic.
now there as common to find as those damn bidoof things and take up about a quarter of the pokedex!
Except unlike Bidoof you just can't fucking get them. And then after all that they go as far as to make it so you can't use action replay or anything to get the pokemon you have literally no way of getting but they include in your pokedex, forever mocking you.

***** move nintendo..... ***** move....
Oh and don't even think about going online to try and get any of the pokemon you're missing, even if it's something as simple as another starter or just one of the common fuckers that aren't in your version. Why? Because no one online will trade for any-fucking-thing that isn't a shiny pokemon now.
shiny pokemon are as common as a black irish cyclops!!!!

Yep. This guy pretty much summed everything up.

Catching them all should be accomplishable by yourself. Nintendo shouldn't have the right to have players make freakin' PILGRIMAGES to get a stupid bit of 8bit code.

I'd say the first generation, but the Silver/Gold generation just worked. It was a refinement of the first generation, w/o all the needless bells and whistles of the following sets.

the first generation, by a long way. second was OK, third was too far, after that it's just silly. the next lot is just rediculous

Gold and Silver.

Just enough to make it seem daunting but far from impossible. And they all kind of worked together and melded together with the original 100.

The ones afterwards, for the most part, were just too abstract or strange, or had names that never stuck in someones head or would become favorites. Mostly why I just couldnt finish Ruby. It was just... it was OK but could have been better

The original series was the best. I remember first getting it and being awestruck at how the game operated and played. I just loved it. I wish I could go back to that time and have that original feeling all over again. God I loved Blue.

Gold/Silver, in my opinion. Any time I hear the Goldenrod town theme, I feel so nostalgic.

Which makes me thrilled that there are some rather solid rumors that a remake of those two is in the words for the Nintendo DS. <3!
Rumors? You do know that remakes are going to be released next month, right?

OT: My favorite was always the 3[sup]rd[/sup]generation. It has Kyogre, Blaziken and Gardevoir, my favorite Pokemons.

GSC, both due to the quality of the games themselves and all the new things they brought to the table. Some of which we would not see again until DPP, such as the day/night cycle. Crystal also featured animations. Not to mention I don't think anyone can deny how awesome it was to discover that, after you did everything in the game... you hadn't done everything in the game. You still got to go back to Kanto, essentially making it a sort of two-games-in-one deal.

Well, maybe not, but it still has a special place in my heart. I'm excited for HG/SS simply because they're remakes of my favourite generation, and that's awesome.

I <3 the first generation, it's the generation I grew up with and we ended up studying it for our final subject in our final year of primary school in 1999. Our teacher was awesome.

I only ever acknowledge the first 151 Pokemon as worthwhile, though the second generation is alright. I would only ever have Pokemon from the first generation in my team. In the Pokemon world I wouldn't care less if I came across trainers using second generation Pokemon, but any generation above that and they would earn my ire.

As for Legendary Pokemon, only the first and second generation Legendaries (i.e. the flying trio) I consider to be actually Legendary. All "Legendaries" in 3rd generation and beyond are worthless.

Gold/Silver improved on the originals, unlike ruby/saphire which pretty much rebooted the franchise.

In saying that, all the games are decent. I particularly like my Zangoose (generation 3 oddly enough) who I called Cptn Stab. Good times.

That and the Magikarps you can buy for £500 and are useless. I called all of mine Paul. :)

i would've said red blue yellow, but then i remembered crystal.
true enough it wasn't quite the same but the new little things and mini side bits to do were so damned fun.
Also you could get scizor he was a total monster, well unless it faced a fire breather.
