Charmander, that brings back memories. To this day Charizard is still among my top 5 favorite pokemon of all time.

all TRUE pokefans started in generation 1 or 2 .
C'mon man think about what your saying here, why cant i be a Pokemon fan because i played Gold and Red, affter i played Saphpire?
Thats like saying you cant be a Final Fantassy fan if you haven't played every one of the games in order since they first started being made...it just dosn't make sense.

OT: Mudkip, no seriously
yeah i hear ya, i just have this strange dislike for people who start pokemon with the latest games, im not proud of it. yes pokemon is to me what wine is to the french, it must be expertly enjoyed! i sound like a prat ill stop talking now...
Ahh, like wine to the French...I see what you mean... :)

Treeko. I evolved it once but then gave up on the file. I then played again with a Torchic, because I wanted a Blaziken. I ended up with a Blaziken, but for some reason I gave up on that file and started again with a Mudkip, because he's the cutest little thing ever. I beat the Elite Four with my Swampert and occasionally load that up again to do some grinding when I want to play an RPG.

Bublasaur kicked ass and everyone wanted a Charizard so I stayed away from the popular choice of charmander.

Squirtle was obviously my second choice then and probably my favorite pokemon of all time because of who he evolved to.

Squirtle. I remembered seeing Blastoise and really, really wanting a tortiose with cannons mountedto it's back. And so I could kick my brother's Charmander to hell, which I did.

That squirtle is still 'alive'; my friends and I still play eachother on 2nd Gen a lot for nostalgia's sake (we're so cool) and I traded it over, making it 11 sometime this May, so it's probably one of the oldest pokemon around and active, at least in Europe.

Squirtle.
I nicknamed him Bubbles as I recall (I was 7 or so)

Also, (sarcasm aside) you are awesome. I wish mine was still "alive"

A Cyndaquil.

I can remember it like it was yesterday. The IVs on that thing were something completely and totally fucking other. At level 98, its moveset consisted of Quick Attack, Ember, Fire Spin, and Flamethrower, and my dad layed me low with it every time I let him use it in battles. Never broke a sweat. Unbe-frickin'-leivable.

Bulbasaur for me. Kind of surprised to see Charmander in the lead (at the moment), I don't envy those players' first gym battles. Though I did one time start with it and just went about killing the rock types with fire attacks, because normal, poison, and electric-type moves were far less useful.

i guess its to make it harder fo people to breed armies of starters
Probably the most surprising thing I've seen posted here. I guess I just assumed most people used ditto exclusively to breed all pokemon, thereby making the gender of the partner mostly irrelevant.
