-9/11 (one of the worst events in living memory)
-Reality TV (the age of watching morons for entertainment)
-the first Black American President (whatever you might think of him a huge moment in history)
-Nintendo Wii (the first time gaming has become mainstream)
-Texting (only really started at the beginning of the decade)
-Google (only turned up at the beginning of the decade would you believe)

That's my predictions.
the hell?!?! get over 9-11 there much worse than like -3000 people and a few missing towers. its not like we lost anyone really important or that many people.
Its the fact that 9-11 was the first major terrorist attack in the US. Also who are oyu to say that these people werent important? This year Michael Jackson died, he was a huge inspiration to music and one of the greatest musicians of all time. My mother also died this year, she was a librarian, who do you think was more important to me. try telling the families that their loved ones werent important.

Sorry about the rant but when people talk like this it pisses me off
okay true people who lost family members or someone close where devastated but people need to stop thinking selfishly and look at the big picture.

The kind of cold but I'll answer it anyway.

Even if you don't consider it "that bad" the events of 9/11 has had one of the greatest effects on politics and war this decade, if not last 60 years; it caused the age of "the war on terror", one that will probably continue for many, many decades to come.
i think the idea of war on terror was one of the dumbest moves in history. how do you fight a war against something so abstract? quite literally terrorism can come from an organization or someone who got up one morning realised how much he hated life and used a home made bomb on himself in a supermarket. its like a war on insanity it cant be won there's always going to be insane people and uncontrollably pissed off people. the only way we could win is to remove the human ability to go insane and angry from everyone.
I apsolutely agree, but it's still a huge moment in history.

as we enter a new year and new decade, we will be introduced to new wonderful things, as the entertainment industry advances in many ways.

so, what was good about the 2000s in terms of the entertainment industry?

games, films, music, tv (depends on the country), anything... your call, your opinion...

and obviously, state why!
wait... why is everyone on the whole terrorism 9/11 subject? i think this is supposed to be strictly entertainment industry.

It will be remembered as the decade when the most stupid wars happened. The beginning of resource hungry driven wars.
Also, I agree.

Sheesh, that's some serious lack of perspective right there.
America isn't the only place that got bombed ya know take a little perspective London also got bombed and there are roadside and suicide bombings in pakistan and the middle east almost every day.
Sadly for me I think that 2009 will be remembered for all the bloodshed.

I'm amazed at how many people trash Reality Shows... yet can also tell you specifically why they suck and the names of the characters on each of them. Oi vey! (roll eyes)

If you want it to go away stop watching it. Don't even give them a chance at all.

Entertainment-wise, it has to be the deaths of Pink Floyd Keyboardist Rick Wright, The Who Bassist John Entwistle, Beatle George Harrison, and Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley. At least thats how I'll remember it.

The period the internet really changed society. In 1999 I had just gone online, learned about e-mail and search engines. I spent maybe and hour a week online until about 2002 when broadband opened its true potential to me. I honestly cannot count ways online has changed things for me. How I receive information, how I watch entertainment, how I talk to friends. So much revolves around the computer (a device previously used for word processing and games by me before internet) now. So many niche cultures found, the world is so much smaller. I routinely talk to people form dozens of countries in a given day, say that to someone in 1999 and they'd be impressed, now it is mundane.

I think that the 00's is the decade that took the internet and internet culture from something that some people were involved in, to something that everyone was involved in.

Also cell phones became the most annoying piece of technology on the planet.

You can also do that at the mall for free, but I think they call it people watching instead of reality TV. Less scripted, but the morons are the same.

I live literially maybe 70 or so miles outside London and was shocked as anybody by the London bombings but it isn't even in the same ball park as 9/11.

The London bombings happened on several buses and underground trains yet less than a 100 people where killed. It caused very little disruption either; the trains and bus services where up and running again in about 2 days.

It's also had very little effect on the world at large, at least compared to the huge effect 9/11 has had. Partially because it wasn't anything new after the events in America, partially because it wasn't nearly as devastating, but also because we Britains just don't kick up as much as a fuss as Americans do.

It's true. If you see any Earthquake in america, even if it's the tinniest tremor, their are people running around the streets screaming. We had a minor earthquake in kent a few years ago which went something like this: "Jesus Christ, what the fuck was that?" "Man, you should have seen your face mate." "I fancy a pint" Then everyone went down the pub and laughed about it.

Well, I think for Americans it will be remembered as the decade that the majority of us showed our collective middle finger to the rest of the world and needed to spend the next several years rebuilding relationships.

It also marks the moment where we joined the rest of the world as victims of terrorism.

There are points where the musical mainstream seemed to be going in a good direction, but then it would just return us to 1999: Nu Metal, bad hip-hop about bitches and bling and the number of toilets the rapper possessed, lots of lip synching/rap synching, and some of the worst electronic music ever. Then again, it could be seen as the decade where indie stopped being indie.

Tech, definitely. Robotics in medicine, the beginnings of stem cell research, and useless cell phone apps.

Edit: And the greatest wealth of good TV ever. Concurrently, also the greatest wealth of absolute shit TV. But at least we had choices.
