While I can bet most fighting professionals get more of a kick out of something like Street Fighter or MvC, I enjoy SSB. I actually like how the biggest button combo in the game simply involves a direction on the joystick, and a single button press. Then, the strategies more involve when to use each move rather than fiddling around with "hold down....left up smash left trigger" or insane stuff like that.

My favorite used to be Smash Bros Melee easily, Got so much enjoyment out of that game.. Until I tried going "pro" in it, really sucked the fun out

Now it's Tekken 6 however

I feel there should be an "other" option considering how many fighting games are out there and how many opinions people have. Also you should fix the word "ever".

I'd have to say my favorite fighting game is Soul Calibur 3, it took all the things that made SC2 great and added a few improvements, too bad SC4 cut down the story mode, dumbed down the create-a-character, and stuck everyone in those horrible outfits. I also like the Blazblue games, even though I'm crap at them.

It was because Siegfried was overused in SC2. They cut down on his speed because they felt he was too strong with his high damage and high reach. Siegfried is still a monster in 3 and 4, and can make any slow character miserable with his reach and damage. Fighting him as Kilik, I'm forced to poke him to death since if I try and combo him, I'm gonna lose 1/2 my life.
SC2 Nightmare, overused? Really?

And just a side note, Kilik is not a bad character at all; it's just that most people you run into - especially online - have a nasty habit of spamming his F+A+B attack (that five hit poke of his). I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Siegfried/Kilik match-ups usually favor Kilik since Siegfried doesn't have too many defensive options outside of a parry/repel and (CH)B+A.

It's been a while since I really sat down on the game, so I could be wrong. Hell, I'm not a good player of either of those characters by any means, so I probably am wrong.

Guilty Gear + Blazblue are up there, one of the few series that I actually keep me involved. I'm pretty rubbish at fighting games, but I make a good effort in those series just because the aesthetic is wonderful.

Smash Bros. comes up pretty high to, that game stole so much of our time.

Why didn't you just put a bunch of fighting game franchises in the poll? All the same Mortal Kombat or Tekken. MK for its fatalities and uniqueness. Tekken cause foot to forehead + demon guy = win. I thought MVC:3 was alright whilst playing it in a store but I feel it would get boring after a while.
cause my poll was specific. Best fighting games in the past 3 YEARS.
Whoops, I didn't see that in the OP. Sorry my bad. Also SSBB was released in the last three years? I thought it was at least five years old. Guess I was wrong.

I've got two.

Dead or Alive 4, simply because of jiggle physics and the fact that it came out during that phase of my adolescence.

Actually though, my favorite has to be One Must Fall: 2097. THE absolute best 2D beat 'em up ever. I still got the DosBox version.

Other.

Soul Calibur 1 on the Dreamcast. In my opinion it's been getting steadily worse since then.

BlazBlue. Continuum Shift in particular.

Varied, likable characters with all very different fighting styles and move sets(No clone characters here). The sound track is awesome and the game play is pretty damn balanced.

Love it.

In descending order: Hisoutensoku, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (I lack CS), Brawl, one of those Gundam games I forget the name of. That last one may be tied with Power Stone.

What if it isn't ANY of these games? What if I hate Soul Calibur 4 but loved Soul Calibur 3? What if I'm one of the thousands of fans who still play melee over Brawl? What if I had more fun with the DBZ fighting games? What if my answer is Gundam: Battle Assault 2?

Incidentally, my answer is Gundam: Battle Assault 2. Guilty Gear XX is in close second. You see my point, though, don't you? Even regarding major fighting game series, your poll is overly narrow-minded and restrictive.
