Part? have you played any other final fantasys? they dont come in part, there whole diffrent story lines. In fact, there were no spin offs till x-2, the most deadly weapon to mankind. And yes, x-2 was before all the ff7 ones, according to one source.... true or not, you guys decide
I've tried 4 and 8, completed 7, 9 and X-1. Anyways, what was your point?

I never said it was--I rather enjoy that aspect of the series. They manage to somehow take that same archetype and put a different spin on it with each setting, exploring different themes through each world and its characters. It's just that sometimes they just get carried away with them a bit and it feels like they're trying a little too hard to elicit a "WTF" moment or come up with a plot twist for the sake of having one. Personally I like it better when they're a bit more direct.
I misinterpeted your post, I guess. I still don't really get what you mean by this though.

Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 were great. 12 was pretty good and I look forward to 13.

I enjoyed IV. However, since I have only played III, IV, Tactics Advance, and Crystal Chronicles, that isn't saying much.

Also, just so you know, this thread pops up a lot. I'm not saying to use the search bar, just that it's fairly common.

Final Fantasy 9 for sure. Strongest characters of all the games.

7 and 10 were also fun, but they tended to have some underdeveloped characters and some other irritants.

In all honesty, final fantasy 6. It had a great story and a great villian who was acually evil, not "misunderstood".

Nine.

First one I played, the one that inspired me to read and write fantasy novels, and just generally start writing novels.

Great characters, great story, challenging but not impossible, easy to understand but not condescending.

Best of them all, though props to VII for containing Vincent and the most mind-boggling screwy story, and VII for having Squall, my favourite protagonist, and writing which caused me to both laugh and cry.

i played and own everyone except the tactics series. ff 9 is my personnel favourite simply cos the chracters were pretty funny, it had a good story line and it was simple to playthrough and really fun nothing to complex like the others.

12, love the new combat system, makes grinding/training so much faster and easier. Great story, final boss was... epic, to be put it simply. Usual multiple form boss ^^.

I'd have to go with FF3, mainly because its the only one I have ever really played and I thought it was awesome. I just started playing FF7 but haven't got out of Midgar yet.

It depends on which numbering system you are using: The Japanese numbering system (recently re-introduced to the Western World) or the Original Western numbering system. My favorite was FFVI (by the Japanese numbering), followed by VII, VIII, X, and then I. I never finished any of the others, but I've played a little of all of them.

Its always a toss-up between 6 and 9 for me.

6, because I love Kefka and the game has the best music in the series, (10 is second in my opinion!)
But 9 had the best battle system and party characters, and was graphically amazing at its time. (And has aged quite well! :D)

Since 9 is not an option I vote for 6.

VII hands down. The story, the characters and the sheer emotions the setting brings up makes this my favorite, though IX and VII come close as well.
Pretty much the only part that isnt either Cloud,Vincent or Sephiroth being emo is when Aeris died(NOT going in spoiler tags because im pretty sure everyone knows it by now)

For bringing up emotion what about in FF6 when
Kefka basically gets superpowers and wrecks the entire world? More to the point : the scenes involving Celes that take place after that

OT: my favourite is XII then VI with IX a close 3rd

VIII, though I struggle to say why. The card game may go some way to explaining it ;-)

That, or X. Blitzball was a hell of a lot of fun, and X-2 ruined it with the stupid management-style system. If they brought out Blitzball a la FFX, I'd play it FAR too much.

Back to the point, I never really got the hype of VII, and while IX was good, I found the Chocobo mini-game as a whole somewhat repetitive and frustrating. XII was fine, though it was less fun second time around. Going for EVERYTHING got a little boring and repetitive after a while, too.

VI. By far VI.

I loved the story, I loved the world, and I loved hearing Kefka's stupid low-resolution laugh.
