Why are people bitching about Modern Warfare 2? Sure the single player campaign was bloody short but it was bloody brilliant as well, there was little to no realism but it was SPECTACULAR.
Presumably because they disagree with your opinion.

Personally, I didn't like the MW2 campaign much. The majority of levels didn't require much thought-it wasn't as tactical as cod4, nor as challenging.

They also went in the direction of completely packing the game with action. Now, this I consider bad for a couple of reasons. I like frantic bits of game. However, I like it to be balanced out by slower sections. It makes the game less repetitive, and adds some suspense.

They took a similar approach to the story. It was spectacular. In block capitals. Again and again and again. Perhaps my favourite part about cod4 is the fact that, instead of being some kind of hero on a giant scale, it deliberately alternates to smaller scale, covert missions, and builds up from there. Cod4s story was well balanced. It had the really impressive stuff, balanced by the cloak and dagger, and MW2 doesn't manage this for me. It takes the spectacular elements which were successful in cod4(such as the character death) and repeats them over and over, which only lessens the impact.

Brink for sure, looks like that's going to be something refreshing to play in multi-player, quite a bit different from the pack.

That and Bulletstorm, that game looks so much fun.

To be honest, I wasn't bothered too much about this topic enough to research and produce a full essay on it, but if you were describing to someone about Portal, you would not say it is an FPS, ever. It probably isn't even classed as an FPS. There is no weapons for the player to use and the portal gun doesn't really count as one. The enemy's using weapons is irrelevant anyway so I don't see why anyone would classify it as an FPS.
Alright, let me break down the sentence and add my two cents:

While true enough, you might not add that Portal is a FPS doesn't mean it's not a FPS.
It is classed as a FPS.
There are no weapons in Portal. So what? Explain to me why it's necessary for a FPS to have weapons.
The clue is in FPS, the S stands for shooter. I am pretty sure you need some kind of weapon to shoot with. I don't remember reading anywhere that it classed Portal as an FPS, so therefore, it is not an FPS.
There is a gun. That shoots. It's called the Portal Gun. It shoots portals.

The fact is that no one ever classes it as an FPS, not even the games developers. Its a bit like saying a game is a puzzle game because of one little mini game as part of a side quest. It has never been classified as an FPS, and never will. Case Closed

Reach. CoD is going to be this. 4hr campaign and then "HOLYZ ZHITS......MULTIPLAYER"... Where at least Reach tells us about campaign.
how do you know?
OT: personally, PORTAL 2! [sub][sub][sub]if it counts[/sub][/sub][/sub]
Because thats all they have advertised for (or from what I have seen) and thats what most people play the game for.

Halo Reach for me. Call of duty and Medal of honour aren't my cup of tea, Brink looks interesting but a bit too online focused.
I'm also looking forward to Killzone 3, not sure if I'll rush out to buy it day one, but the second game was good and I'm pretty sure this one will be too.

Seeing this arguement is getting futile with each post, and that neither of us are changing our opinion, I started this thread.

While you're definetly with the popular opinion, people agree it is a first person game, but is much more of a puzzler.

Regardless, I'm still believing it is a FPS, and right now I don't think any posting can budge the idea.

So, bottom line short: I want Portal 2.

Brink's on my list here, but it's near the bottom of my list, so I've voted Other.

Bulletstorm.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Brink.

Homefront.

Portal 2. Depends on your definition, but by MY definition, it counts. Of course, by my definition, Doom counts as an RPG as well, so take that as you will.

New Vegas. Not so keen for this, but curious enough to take a look.

---

And, the one I haven't seen anyone else mention yet.... (also one I'm most curious about, if not as hyped for as Deus Ex and Homefront)

DUST 514.

---

Seriously, how has nobody mentioned THIS yet?

FPS which ties into an existing MMO world. You play as a mercenary. Working for people playing a different game, probably on a different gaming platform. And looking like it'll be the first game to support X360/PS3 cross-platform gaming.

And NOBODY mentioned it in 4 and a half pages???!?!?!! (I'm tempted to add "1" in a few times there. Maybe an "eleven". I won't though. That would be silly)

Portal 2 and Crysis 2 are the only ones that can hold my attention.

I bet Crysis 2 will be crap though. The best thing about Crysis 1 was scaring the shit out of Koreans, which will change with it being aliens, and going "oooh, scenery", but that will probably change with it being yet another dead city.

Portal 2... it's by Valve. Of course I'm not worried.
