THAT was the first SHRTW (yes i made it an acronym, sue me) because it inspired EVERYONE in the world to revolt against their oppressors, the Revolutionary War led to the French Revolution, the Greek Revolution, and the foundation of liberals and conservatives.
That's debatable. Conservatism was already a well-established political tradition (In the form of the Tory party and, to a lesser extent, the Whigs), and Liberalism
caused the US revolution, not the other way around.
Point: Archduke dying, NOT THE FIRST SHOT; American Revolution: REAL FIRST SHOT. Wikipedia guys, thats how i found this out.
If you've been on wikipedia, you'd have read this. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_shot_heard_around_the_world]
POINT: Don't try to belittle the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. The change that wrought was arguably on a far greater scale than the US revolution, in a very short space of time, and was far more bloody. At the very least, you can surely empathize with people who place it higher.
