Not sure who George Carlin is.
Hated most of Jacko's music, the way he acked around kids, the way he tried to pass off his surgery as natural and the way he was an arse in general.

George Carlin was more important. He pushed the envelope of what you can say on t.v. and he brought up a lot of political issues. Wereas Micheal Jackson was just some weird looking pedophile I.M.O. who shouldn't have gotten so much attention.
Well, seeing as how Jackson had just as big of an impact as Carlin did on our lives WHILE still having playable, genreless music... sure, why not.

I know that MJ was an extremely influential performer and I enjoy his music and all, but my vote's with George Carlin.

Although in all reality, I was probably more sad about Kurt Vonnegut dying than George Carlin.

if i may ask... who is George Carlin ?...
A stand up comedian who made many good points. But to me, he was always RUFUS! *air guitars*
Been on two nights in a row in my house! *air guitars*

OT, Michael purely because I actually knew who he was before his death.

George Carlin was the first celebrity death that actually brought me down at all. I never liked Michael Jackson in the first place.

I've never heard of George Colin, so I would have to pick Jackson, even though that wasn't really much at all.

Neither (Wacko Jacko was just that and I didn't know who George Carlin was until I read a post in this thread), I pick Billy Mays.

Mitch Hedberg
I loved Mitch Hedberg and he really did die way, way too young. Definitely one of my favorite comedians of all time. Plus he was real, unlike a lot of these other guys.

Though I figured there's be some people who didn't know much about Carlin, I'm actualy shocked at how many people say they don't know him at all. Figured he'd be universal (or at least global) if only from Kevin Smith's Dogma.

I think in the wake of the pedophilia allegations we often forget how absolutely massive Jackson was, and whether you despised the man or you would let him babysit for you, his music was tremendous and the defining sound of the last quarter of the twentieth century.

Carlin is undoubtedly a big loss but like my hero Bill Hicks his message will live on in his fans, and Cronkite can't be undervalued as one of the finest journalists to have lived. While it is always difficult to lose important figures, as much of a legend as Mays was, he's a pop-culture icon more than anything else.

Jackson's music, for me, makes him a bigger loss, but undoubtedly everyone mentioned in this conversation has contributed a lot (save Mays, although I'm saddened that there will be no fresh YouTube material for us UK enthusiasts of loud and enthusiastic sales techniques)...

Billy May's had more effect on my life than those two combined.

So I pick neither, I guess.

BILLY MAYS HERE.
He impacted my life more than either of them, honestly. I missed out on George Carlin a lot until after he had died, and never really was a fan of Micheal Jackson. I suppose George Carlin has a bigger impact on me, and Jackson was more of an "Oh. It happens."

Billy Mays.

I honestly took Billie Mayz's death harder than either of them. And I hated Billie. Meaning I hate ALL OF THEM
