I was going to say that too. Those JaboOody dubs immortalized him. I hope you know what I'm talking about, because Billy wasn't as awesome without those to me.

I didn't take either of their deaths too hard.

However, I have more respect for Carlin, so I'm gonna go with him.

Neither, so I didn't vote. I didn't know much about George Carlin and as for Michael Jackson, he lost most of the respect I had for him after some of his weird ways. I mean c'mon, who dangles a baby over a balcony just so that die hard fans could see?

It's sad, but I can't take celebrity deaths that hard. I don't attach myself to them and I don't know them personally enough.

When I heard Michael Jackson died, I kind of shrugged, it was a bit of a surprise, but George Carlin actually upset me. He was one funny bastard, and made far too many good points.

If you don't know who George Carlin is, do yourself a favor and at least look him up on Youtube.

This. Billy Mays was pure awesome, and he left too soon.
agreed. the only death that affected me

i dont get why people are sad about michal jackson. when he was alive people made mean jokes about him and how he rapes little boys and shit. now that he died, everyone misses him now. i bet if he was still alive, people would still make jokes about him.

I was most upset about hearing the rumor that Jeff Goldblum died ... MJ didn't phase me one bit, massive impact on music but have no respect for someone that either can't handle what they create or molested kids ( he either did one or the other )... Carlin passing wasn't that surprising ... he at least lived a long full life.

People are always surprised when I tell them that Carlin was the Conductor on Thomas the Tank, though that's probably not what he'd like to be known for.

At the risk of sounding callous, Michael Jackson had a pretty good run (I'm talking about his musical career; I mean, his kids have lost their father for pity's sake), but Carlin really had yet to be fully appreciated. He's better known through those he influenced than through his work directly. No pop act has ever really 'followed' Michael, but dozens of comedians will tip their hats back at dear ol' George.

I always respected George Carlin as a comedian, author, thinker and a man who was uncompromising in his opinions and his defense of free speech. That said he was an old man and had lived a good and long life and though I had always wanted to see him (missed him by hair at his last performance in my state) Michael Jackson was far too young and his death too sudden to not affect me.
I cried because, though I can't say I was a fan in my adulthood, I am old enough to have grown up with his music throughout the backdrop of my life so it felt far more personal to me that he died.
You can deride him all you want but who hear can say they have achieved as much in their lives as he did while still a child in the Jackson 5 or as a young man selling the very best selling album in history and breaking the color barriers on MTV that, before he arrived, refused to air black artist.
I for sure can't but I will respect both men for the legacy they leave behind.
