I've only heard of Micheal Jackson, and I wish he was still alive so we would'nt be about to have his kids rammed down our throats. (No pun intented at all there, you sick sick people)
"our fathers dead, pay attention to us!" I know they are being forced into it, and thats the line they will be forced to play, and it sickens me.
"You cant criticsize them, their father died and they are just trying to do what would make him happy" So? My father died and I never play the sympathy card.

rant over

Let's be honest Michael Jackson's life was a joke to most of us and it is sad that the man had such tradegy in his life and even sadder that he didn't reddemn himself in anyone one's eyes for all the bad things he did

Between the two, definitely CARLIN! With both his standup (Seven dirty words, anyone?) and acting (Rufus(Bill and Ted) and the Architect(Scary Movie 3)) he will not be forgotten so easily.

If not between the two, Walter Cronkite(RIP). Apparently he was the most trusted news reporter of all time. If only we could get that these days...

I'm afraid I don't know who George Carlin is, but him. Not becuase I cared, because I only just restraining myself from celebrating MJ's death. Sick pedo, and I hated his music anyway.

Both.

And I don't care if you call me a cheater. They were both idols to me.
Honestly I don't have a problem with answers like this. If you loved Michael Jackson, then by all means let his death impact your life. But if you're just jumping on the "OMG MJ is ded!" bandwagon (like oh so many are), there's something wrong with this picture.

Like I said, I liked Michael Jackson, but his death shouldn't be the only one on everyone's minds. I find how people are acting not only disrespectful to other pasted celebrities, but also to Jackson himself.

(c) none of the above. Everyone whose death I care about has died before I was aware of them. These include people like Douglas Adams, Graham Chapman, Isaac Asimov and Freddie Mercury. Michael Jackson I have no real feelings about, and I don't know George Carlin off the top of my head.

I was never a fan of Carlin, I hadn't even heard of him before he died.

I've been a Jackson fan since I was little when my brother made me listen to his stuff ;_;

George Carlin was certainly more relevant to my interests than Michael Jackson, but the only celebrity death that caused a genuine emotional reaction from me was that of John Peel.

Billy Mays i took the hardest, but George Carlin was one of the best, nay, greatest comedians i have ever heard, it seemed more like a philosophical conversation then a comedic act.

I think in the wake of the pedophilia allegations we often forget how absolutely massive Jackson was, and whether you despised the man or you would let him babysit for you, his music was tremendous and the defining sound of the last quarter of the twentieth century.
Let's not forget how much Jackon did to get black artist onto mainstream television like MTV. Jackson's label threatened MTV to pull all of their artists off if they didn't play his videos. I'm not saying Jackson is responsible for getting rid of racial segregation on television, but he at least helped pave the way.

On a similar note, anyone noticed how little music MTV actually plays these last coupleyears. It actually took Jackson's death to get the channel to start playing music videos again.

Carlin is undoubtedly a big loss but like my hero Bill Hicks his message will live on in his fans, and Cronkite can't be undervalued as one of the finest journalists to have lived.
You have mentioned three of my greatest heroes in one sentence.

I salute thee!
