Poll: Why do people idolize users with large post counts?

I don't idolize the people with lots of posts but I see them alot more often and I like their posts. I actually joined before most of the well known ones who have 5,000-15,000 posts and I don't think anyone knows me, probably because I only reply to the threads on the front page because I can't be bothered to go into the forums properly.

I've never seen them idolized, but one has to agree that a guy with witty posts in the thousands is a better poster than the guy posting random crap with horrible grammar that has posts in the teens.

Ark, they're what gets to me.
Especially if they've been here since March & should know by now.

God, I once tried telling one that "You're not going to be taken seriously here if you don't put any punctutation into your posts" and he replyed by writing in almost unreadable spelling and he basicly said a sarcastic version of "fuck you, I'll do what I want".

Whaddya mean? I don't get idolized! At what post count do I get idolized?!?! Is it 3000? 'Cause this is my 3000th post and I have yet to get blind followers of any kind.

I couldn't give a damn about the post counts. But honestly, I think there are some users that think adding someone with a higher post count will earn them popularity by association with other members. Yes, I believe there are idiots out there that think this.

I think its all about the attitude. You have those people who rarely post, and make each post count. And they get well known as some type of OHKO-ing wordsmith.

And then you get people like Furburt and HUBILUB who post everywhere.

They are easily impressed? That or they are well known due to said post count and so people want to be friends with them as they like a lot of what they say.

All it means is that they spend a lot of time on this site and post a ridiculous amount of meaningless dribble, often contributing little to nothing to the actual discussion. They aren't more important in anyway whatsoever; after all, it's just a number.

Admittedly that is true for most people with a post count numbering in the thousands who have been here a short amount of time, you often find they are the first in every thread, usually only posting a few words or a line at the maximum.

They are just well known and post a lot and usually if you quote someone and have a nice discussion you add them as a friend. So because they have posted more going by the Law of Averages they must be quoted more. Still going by that law people would have had more nice discussion with them. Also some new users might add people with high post counts to feel safer from flames or something I suppose.

It really counts for nothing the time you've been here is more important than post count. Although having a high post count can show you are a decent member of the community by not being banned from amounting it.

Well Neo badge thing is unfair to something as it can be lost stupidly and for little reason. I did nothing bad on the forum never got a warning then called someone a twat and got put on probation. So it does show you can post well but sometimes you lose out on it for silly things.

Well, we see there Avatars allot more, and remember what they say better. You allso get a good idea of there personality. So its easier to talk to someone like Furburt or Neonbob about shit.

People are essentially like sheep. They will follow anyone who appears to be in charge. The people with higher post count appear to be in charge because they talk a lot, in fact that is why they have a large post count.

So if you put 2 + 2 together you get a whole forum filled with people following what people with large post counts say.

Anyway, no. They're not more important, but they are more well known. For example, look at how I know about the existance of Furburt. I could also name HUBILUB, but that's about it.

Wanna know why? Because they post steaming heaps, which most do not.

I don't think they're idolised. But they're more visible, and the fact that they've been on here so long sort of seems to say that they aren't just trolls or flamers, cause they would have been banned by those sharp mods of ours. Also, they have more friends because they've been here longer. That seems pretty obvious.

I dunno, maybe it's because people with high counts have usually been around the forum a while and know its ways?

I have a big post count and have yet to be in any way idolised for it, it's just an indication that I like this forum a lot, that's all.

It's not really a good way to judge people by.

I mean, I lost my chances at a Neo badge very early on, but I like to think I've improved myself a lot since then.
